I understand this emotional Atyachar. I am blessed (but some might say cursed) with Baritone voice box
You are a great teacher.I had some singing ability from the young age but no body taught me these things.Nor did I learnt on my own.I remained a bath room singer. But no regrets.I love good singing and I love your videos. In my old age,now I realise why there is a need for good Guru. You are excellant Guru.❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am a senior citizen .I had a good voice once .stopped singing as a teenager . This episode gives me a eay of hope for higher octaves . Thanks very much .will follow your videos.
Thank you for the great advice! It’s going to help me a lot! ❤❤❤
I also find learning online has its limitations. Not all teachers hear the difference in me using head and shouting voice.

Definitely...I am struggling to find a good teacher for my kids... online is not working at all

In my opinion it is not the online medium that is the limitation. If a teacher is able to listen right and identify the root problem, the medium is not a barrier. I have been teaching online for a decade and helped several students fix their vocal technique. A good understanding of technology as well can help improve the audio and video quality in online classes.

Some good technique it appears I will have to work out n find out! 👍🤝
Pratibha thanks so much for this!
You're so lovely..Thank you for this❤
I like your analogy of "hitting the note" it really added to the clarity of what to observe. I took a singing class once at my community college, and our teach taught us to use the yawn method to I was surprised how significant a difference it made! Great video.
This is such a brilliant video❤️❤️
This lady, too great wonderful saying the genuine natural truth .
So, nice of you. As a matter of fact, as you mentioned, no one was there to guide me about head voice, years back, when I opted for BA Music. Unfortunately, I was not able to complete it till today, because of this issue. Recently, my teacher, whom I met after several years, taught me to use my head voice. Now, I have started to practise again. I hope that one day I will be able to sing excellently.
Thank you so much for this very informative episode.
You are doing a wonderful job on teaching how to mix and blend chest voice and head voice properly. This technique is what exactly needs to be taught to anyone who is learning Indian classical music.

Mam you have explained really really very beautifully all that problems which I faced ❤
Thank you much 🙏
Thank uuuu!!
I strained and struggled exactly the way you showed at the very beginning, Pratibha. Then came the European concept of singing 'falsetto'. Accepting that caused a real impediment. Without anyone ever saying I should, I stopped singing and listening to tuneful melodies. Music was a cherished hobby till then. Now I hope to correct my misconception, practice well and enjoy singing once again. Very grateful ❤, Pratibha. Thank you 🙏🏾. It is an answer to a prayer.

In carnatic music, it's very unlikely that you would be able to sing in your head voice. I have taken carnatic music for years and I never used head voice singing carnatic music. Now in Hindustani music, you can try to mix your chest voice and your head voice. But you would need to know how to do this transition smoothly and with more subtlety and that is where a good guru is needed for guidance on how to do this. So that u can sound like one voice all the way through whatever you are singing. For example in a bhajan, an abhang, a ghazal, a rabindra sangeet composition, a film song etc.. You can probably try to mix chest voice with head voice in pure Hindustani classical also provided your guru shows the proper technique to do it and your guru allows it.. I know this because I have also taken Hindustani music for many years and in taar saptak, ( upper octave) there is a possibility to learn how to use your head voice instead of your chest voice as this avoids straining and your voice cracking. Western music definitely allows mixing of both chest voice and head voice. I have learnt western classical and western pop also.

i have the opposite issue, i can’t sing low notes properly. can you pls make a video about this as well? thank you :)
Hi madam I regularly watch your vedios
❤❤❤
Could you explain the difference between the head voice and false voice a bit more ? For the longest time I also used to think that they are the same and have always felt guilty about using the head voice while singing hindustani classical, even though that meant cracking my voice completely just after 30 minutes of practising the high notes. I have always been discouraged to use that thin voice and use the more open chest voice instead. I used to think that it is the limitation of my vocal range that I can't reach those high notes with my chest voice with ease and that I need more practice to achieve that. It is reassuring to know that using the head voice in indian classical is not a sin.

False voice (falsetto) is more of an airy and breathy sound which is used in a different context primarily in western music. Head voice on the other hand is more powerful with a richer timbre. However when you are initially trying to find your head voice, you may end up singing in this breathy tone which is why some people find it unnatural. But it's important to keep working through this until you find your complete head voice. Until then it's okay even if it sounds breathy for a while. But at any cost, don't let your voice get strained or cracked by forcing the chest voice on the full range. Remember, the biggest stalwarts of classical music actively use the head voice and the thin tone can be heard in their renditions. Infact it is that tone that helps achieve effortless singing and a pleasant sound. Try to observe and imbibe that along with the technique I have mentioned here.

Hindustani voice culture will have a mix of exercises for different aspects of singing. It will be a holistic approach towards voice training as practised in the Hindustani format.

How to make transition from throat voice to head voice
In how many days will the sound be ready
This is the biggest problem in both Hindustani music and carnatic music. I am a singer and I have been learning both styles for years together. Most gurus pick the wrong shruthi or wrong sur for a student to sing and this puts lot of strain on the voice which isn't good. And as a result, the student struggles. The student either ends up shouting and screaming to reach high notes or is struggling to reach high notes. This is exactly what happens. It doesn't matter how many alankaras, swaravali exercises is practiced in carnatic music or how many sargam exercises or alankars is practiced. Each one of us has a limited range in the voice and sometimes singing in thara sthayi in carnatic music or in taar saptak in Hindustani music in full chest voice is just not possible for prolonged periods of time. My Hindustani guru always recommends me to do my riyaz(sadhakam) in a comfortable sur ( comfortable shruthi)and to sing whatever raags I have learnt in my comfortable sur. (I usually sing in sur A for Hindustani music and shruthi G for carnatic music). My Hindustani guru, usually when she gets a new student, she will first test out their range and see how high and how low they can go. ( If it's a female student it's usually Khali chaar or Khali paanch) and if it's a male student it's usually Khali ek and Khali dho) ( So black 4, black 5, black 1, or black 2 on the harmonium) In carnatic music, females usually sing shruthi G, G sharp and very rarely A. Males, usually sing, C, C sharp, D or D sharp Here most gurus assume that the selected shruthi will work for the student. But that is not always the case. It's a good idea to first test out the range of the student first and see how high and how low the student can go and then decide on the shruthi. Of course, it can always be changed and modified.
I get a breathy and airy voice when l suddenly jump to high notes
Hello mam thank you for your amazing class I have question about moving jaw while singing aakar when I move my jaw aakar turns out really well is that ok?
@VoxGuru
4 ай бұрын
Jaw movement is not recommended in aakar as it produces additional vocal sounds and interrupts the flow of notes.
I started singing in choir and I was so disappointed that I can’t take high notes as others and I used to sing in this other voice but comes out feeble without power.. still struggling but this is a great video addressing this problem.. thanks.. I still don’t know how to bring power to this head voice. Hence once I tried really hard to hit high note with my chest voice and my voice cracked and lost my entire voice for couple of days.. I was so sad after this.

May be training would help but in the end,not every voice can be trained for singing. That is the reason why not every one is a singer.Beyond a point if things don't improve, stop training and enjoy others singing.Should not feel bad. Or we may restrict ourselves to the range that we are capable of singing.

@@gangadharhiremath7306 ha ha don’t get me wrong. I have led many singing sessions within my vocal range and had lot of good feedbacks. I only have problem with high notes.. sometimes I get to manage with asking people to adjust my microphone settings.. so singing is my strong point but would be effortless if I get a bit of guidance.
