how i make things on my knitting machine | knit & crochet vlog

this is a long & rambly vlog, but I’ve had so many project ideas going around in my head that I wanted to just take some time to try them out. Experimentation and learning new things are so important to me and I absolutely loved trying out all of these new things. I also wanted to show you a bit more of an insight into my knitting machine and how I use it. I’m by no means a pro at it, but maybe this will help some of you who may struggle with your machine. I hope you enjoyed this slightly longer vlog :)

You are by far my favorite fiber arts content creator. It’s so fun to watch your creative process and the garments you make are such high quality and timeless pieces. So many content creators just recreate the same stuff on tik tok and rush to pump out low quality patterns. You are also so resourceful and don’t promote over consumption like many other creators. I’m truly obsessed with your work!

The Dove top is so cute, I love how the crochet edges echo the wings and tail of the bird motif.

Thank you for sharing your process with us. I'd call myself a confident beginner and would like to make more garments without following a pattern. I've picked up lots of useful tips from you, and find your designs inspiring - every time I watch one of your videos I want to cast on at least one new project immediately!

I would recommend watching as many KZread tutorials and videos as you can, that's how I got started. It honestly took me 6 months of trial and error until I could make my first pieces, and another 6 months to feel fully confident and move on to some harder projects. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'm the right person to give an in depth tutorial on how to use the machine especially because I have a vintage one and it's going to be super different from everyone else's. There are some amazing resources out there though, it just takes a lot of time to get used to :')

I loved watching you magically create all of these projects. I do hand knitting (and some crochet, but not a lot) and I have been dreaming of a knitting machine for years. They are so inexpensive here (secondhand ones, that is) So tell me the truth: on a scale of 1-10 (ten being holy moly noooooooooo) how hard is learning to machine knit? (maybe it depends on the person, but I do like to get stuck into things, but I am also a little stressed out with my job and would like something that isn't like "work" 'cause I have enough of that in my career lol) Would love to hear your thoughts!

I can’t lie, initially learning how to use it was really really hard & frustrating, especially because mine was also secondhand and I had to fix a lot of it until it was working properly. It took me maybe 6 months to be able to make basic pieces, but once I figured out how to make those I was honestly obsessed! It is quite hard to learn but the most rewarding thing if you out the effort into it :)
