    It would probably look more realistic if the arrows of a clock were triangles with a base of a triangle being in the center and a thin tip of a triangle connecting with the outer gear Great videos, by the way! :)

    I appreciate you taking the time to make detailed instructions for people looking to build a clock like this! As someone with no real electronics or programming experience, I found myself wondering if I couldn't just power this with the quartz movement from a regular clock, but I don't know if I could get enough torque out of it to do something like this. I don't need more DIY projects to work on right now; I'm already backlogged... But this is so cool.

    You should skip the buck converter and connect to the VIN pin it has 5V from the USB port. the way you have it setup now will most likey blow the MCU's 5v to 3.3v regulator beacouse your driving a stepper of it, not to mention its wasting parts and energy beacouse your going from 5V to 3.3v and then back to 5v.

I used your firmware for Node MCU(8266), with WiFi, for the Hollow Clock 3 project. The Hollow Clock and Hollow Clock 3 project have different motor pitch. Time is gradually lagging behind (in 1 hour minus 8-10 minutes). Please help to correct the firmware code to change the rotation speed of the stepper motor.

  • @snowhead8822

    @snowhead8822

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@myounges Like told before it's no problem to obtain the position of the minute hand. But with the unknown position of the hour hand an automatic synchronisation is not possible. The only possibility I can imagine at the moment is a hollow minute hand coated with black color inside. It's tube has one hole through the gear ring and one hole on its back side in the hight of the hour hands tip. Inside the minute hand before the inner hole to the hour hand there is an tilted mirror placed. In the base on the position of the minutes hand at 06:33 hour is placed a laser diode firing through the minute hand over the mirror out of the hole on the back. Close near this diode a phototetector receives the reflected light. Normally the gear ring reflects the most of the light back to the detector. This causes a high signal. Every hour on the 33. minute the minute hand with it's hole let the beam pass and so on all hours except 06:33 hour there is nearly no reflected light causing a signal near zero. At 06:33 hour the hour hand is positioned direct behind the minutes hands hole reflecting a part of the beam back through the hole over the mirror to the detector. Because only a small part of the light reaches the detector the caused signal should be only a bit higher than at all other hours. So the controller knows, that the hands are in the position of 06:33 hour and can now synchronize with the current time. The main chellanges are the making and positioning of the tiny tiny tilted mirror and to place laser diode and detector as close as possible to each other because both must use the same small tube through the minutes hand. I'm not sure if the light reflected by the hour hand can be reliable detected.
