How I made the Ironmouse embroidered animation + Ironmouse's reaction!!

Фильм және анимация

Thank you so much for the support on my animated embroidery. It was so lovely to hear Ironmouse's really kind comments AND the community was also super super nice. Plus winning?! I am so grateful! I did get a lot of questions about how I did this though, and I hope this helps a little. If you have any questions I did not answer, please comment them below!

leaning into an art style with shifting lines is such a clever way to turn a weakness into a strength!

I think I said that before, but you absolutely killed with this animation. I still can't believe how incredibly creative you are.

The art style reminds me of the chat heads in oldschool RuneScape and I love it!!! It's like that low polygon kinda vibe that probably works really well with embroidery since you can use more straight lines. That and having less frames per second makes it less time consuming and gives a nice style so it's a win win!

As someone who do animation (not professionally but I have extensive know-how on all sorts of animation), you have the right idea of finishing everything then doing the photo in one bunch. You could also pick up a lot of ideas from watching stop-motion videos since this is the closest to traditional animation (meaning without a lot of digital magics) I think your animation is quite close to stop motion so getting more ideas in that concept can really up the quality. I hate being like a know-it all but for 4:18, for the mouth, I think it would also be better if you put red/reddish color in the mouth instead of just black and then leave it. Reason is at first look, I thought it was a mustache given the cowboy hat so if it's a mouth, it's not that expressed. If it's a mustache, then perfect. Really good work btw for doing this for only 3 weeks. Hope to see your stuff getting more attentions since this is new and really interesting.

Thank you! I agree, I think stop motion is the way to go when it comes to more research and practice since I am basically doing that with embroidery. The bit at 4.18 is actually meant to be a moustache! So I am glad that translated! You dont see it in this video so some context may be lost, but in the full animation the next screen has Ross offering CDawg a moustache and cowboy whip! That being said, I do kinda agree anyway, more detail on eye and mouth drawing might be good in the future, since so much emotion is conveyed through those. I know its a little old school, but I grew up watching Ray Harryhausen stop motion, it would be a dream to one day be able to do animation like that, and include IRL stop motion with embroidery stop motion. I want to get better so I can get to that kinda level (although maybe baby steps for now!) Again thanks for the suggestions, I am starting from no knowledge so it all really helps!!

I like that you're putting thought into the production side of things. That mindset, I think, can really help make your process easier and safer while still putting out high quality creative stuff!

That’s 3 weeks well spent; brilliant idea wonderfully executed. I am curious if you could find a green dye to leave your cloth in to create a natural green screen to add backdrops. I’m not sure how that’d work practically but it was something that popped into my head.
