How I Made My Move To St Kitts And Nevis With Children | Island Life In St Kitts

To Move to St Kitts and Nevis with her two young children was a no-brainer for financial services CEO, Davinia Tomlinson.
While the island is fast becoming the destination of choice for cryptocurrency investors in search of a second passport through the St Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment program, Davinia explains why the island is the perfect place for her young family to set up home.
Davinia talks through her process and motivations for leaving London for island life in the Caribbean. The process of choosing a school, adapting to life in St Kitts and tonnes of great advice on how to de-risk the process of taking the leap into island living.

I was so happy to see this video and enjoyed the discussion surrounding education in the Caribbean. What a lot of people do not realize is that the standards are much higher than the USA and UK for Primary and Secondary education . @@ExodusCollective For a number of years I was a teacher in Jamaica at the Primary level, teaching Grade's one and two respectively. Then in 1983 I migrated to the United States (New York) and landed a teaching job as a grade 3 teacher. I was shocked to see that the third grade curriculum I had to follow was actually the work I taught in grade one and grade 2 respectively in Jamaica. To cut a long story, a few years later I was appointed by the NYS Education Department to assist in elementary curriculum development and teacher training. I served in that capacity for two and a half years before being asked to sit on a school evaluation panel for three years. I am no longer in education and been out of the school system for some years now, so I cannot speak to what things are like present day. However, I can attest to a time when undoubtedly the Caribbean system was ahead in elementary education.

Nobody will be telling them that they are less than. I am from the Caribbean and I have lived in the US for 37 years. I have also travelled the the UK and Europe extensively. Neither the UK or Europe is or will ever be a place of safety or a place of growth and development for people with black skin. Congratulations on wanting to move! I'd suggest starting with taking a look at the cost of living in a St Kitts and Nevis to see if it's affordable for you. There are a number of sites like Numbeo that should give you an insight into this. Also check out St Kitts real estate agents' website to see where you could afford to live. Lastly, There are no private hospitals in St. Kitts, or on the island of Nevis; but expats can access the country's public healthcare facilities, and will have to pay a fee to do so - even at the public hospitals. You could also Google the details of a couple of pharmacies on the island, give them a call and find out if they stock the medicines you need and how much it costs. Hope that helps.

Rich people in Jamaica don't face crime. Only poor people suffer from crime. There are 2 different worlds in Jamaica. The Rich people live in a total different world from poor people. They live in the hills and gated communities that is far away from average folks. So if you have money and move back to Jamaica, you will be fine. However, if you are average or poor and have to interact on a day to day basis with poor and average Jamaicans you can be targeted. Trust me Shaggy, Sean Paul, Usain Bolt, Chris Gayle etc live up in Cherry Gardens, Smokey Vale etc. They live in a different world.

I want a more relaxed type of living and better education and better chance of my son mixing with others not like in London most cultures stick to their own and just rude. I feel you on the urge to relocate - wet, grey "summers" certainly don't help! Do you know which island you'd want to settle in? The rate of pay for civil service jobs in the Caribbean is far lower than what you'd be accustomed to in the UK. Have you explored whether your skills could be transferred to a role that you could do remotely? Given the high rate of unemployment in many of the islands that might be your best route forward. I live here on st.kitts and this video is soooooo misleading !!! Me and my wife relocated to st.kitts from the United States.. biggest mistake of our lives!!!!..immediately after we arrived we were being over charged for everything!!! The people would rather cheat us out of every single little dollar they could than help us!! We shipped our personal vehicle to st.kitts...(a vehicle we owned in the united states for over twelve years) and was charged over 9 thousand us dollars just to clear the vehicle from the st.kitts shipping port...the people are not friendly or helpful! And they feel as tho every foreigner is here to take their land and jobs...do not believe all this hype!!! You will regret it!! Even from a business stand point...unless your planning on opening a franchise or a grocery store..don't even waste your time... most businesses fail within a year because the locals live on the average of 110 us dollars a week🤷🏿‍♂️...it will not weigh out

This post is so misleading.. Please get your facts straight before posting false information.. it sounds like you may not have done your research before making such a,life changing decision. 110 US dollars per week is minimum wage. So many nationals have surpassed that standard of living. With this negative attitude and view, it seems that you are the one cheating yourself of a good experience. And perhaps, the locals have realised that you have looked down on them and their country so have decided to "feed you with a long spoon." That's a local saying ...if you dont know what it means you can ask someone. I am positive a Kittitian would be glad to help you.
