How I Made my Freestanding Portable Moon Board

Approaching the intermediate bouldering skill level I decided to build a MoonBoard.
However my garage is not tall enough measuring in at 7.5', while a MoonBoard measures 10'
Building a MoonBoard that collapses is one thing, but I still wanted to be able to climb part of it during the winter. This is why it's built the way it is. I'm not a contractor, these were my plans, and I just had a basic set of power tools.

    Most of the design is copied over from a moonboard climbing wall. A moonboard is a standardized climbing wall so climbers can climb the same routes across globe as long as they have the same setup. The plans are @0:11 they were written on a scratch piece of paper. No fancy files. The materials list is @4:34

    Thanks for watching! We are currently using the Original School Holds with Hold Set B & Hold Set C. The rest of the spaces we still have sprayed with various holds. We still are using various colors of duct tape to mark out the routes. We've fiddled around with a projector highlighting the holds but that didn't pan out. I was thinking of a quick disconnect for the actual moonlights but they are wired vertically and not horizontally. So I would need 12 quick disconnects which ends up being not so quick. Believe me it's something we're still thinking about and are open to suggestions.

  • @84v7climbers7

    Someone just asked me this on Instagram. I had no Idea it was called a "Birds mouth" cut. I used a protractor to get my 40* angle. After that I just traced a 2x4 onto the angled cut. Before I attached the wall frame to the kickboard, I used an app on my phone to double check that the wall was the correct angle.

    @@KeepItReel We had a plan to make the extension one piece and have it on an industrial size hinge connected to the main wall. Once the extension was in place I would slide some gas pipe from the bottom of the wall upward into the extension to give it it's full strength back. Sadly we could not try this because of the dimension of my garge. Folding the extension backwards makes the wall to high, and folding it forward makes the wall unusable when its inside. Tipping it up isn't bad (I'm 6'5), bringing it down is a little tricky. So far I just threw some free weights on the top backside of the wall, and it makes the tip back down manageable solo. If you made your extension two pieces, you can always practice with just the first extension. It's not perfect but it's better then no extensions. It's pretty manageable with just the first piece. Once you set the pipes in, lift up one side of the extension and place it on the first pipe. (not all the way down) Then lift up the other side of the extension and place it on the other pipe, then push it all the way down. It's easier then trying to balance the extension yourself and slide it on both pipes at once. To others reading this. No it's not a P.I.T.A. It takes 5 minutes. That's quicker then some of the approach trails.

  • @84v7climbers7

    @84v7climbers7

    My garage cieling is 7'5" and the base of the wall is 7.25'. This gives enough clearance for the tip. With the wall tipped over and on its side, it brings the wall down to 5.5' Just low enough to squeeze out of the garage door. The height of the fully extended wall is 10.33 feet. So the extension adds about 3ft in height. @:12 I wrote out the dimensions of the Moonboard from there website and converted everything over to feet. (Sorry if it's not legible, I drew the plan on a napkin)
