How I Made An Edwardian Summer Dress PERFECT For My Garden

Make a gown with me! A historical pattern from 1903. It turned out so good.

You can add self care into your 6 steps, too! This is from an Edwardian sewing dress pattern from 1903. This was so much fun and so calming, actually. My dahlias are so pretty and I'm so happy they came back this year.

Beautiful! I love the shirring details and the overall dreamy effect of this dress. Also reminding us to make things but to be kind to ourselves as we do it. Lovely❤

Thank you! This is precisely what I’m working on at the moment. What are the projects like when I’m nice to myself too.

Stacking reams of paper to increase the height of your dress form is brilliant! I also love your honesty about your breaks.

I needed to hear this! Thank you for the heartwarming words. Your philosophy is an inspiration! Your dress turned out beautiful! I'm not near your level of expertise, but I want to learn to be able to make myself something dreamy and magical like that some day. Again, thank you for sharing your amazing work!!🌸💕☺

Yep if we are lucky to have goblin king vibes, thou art on the right path! Love these style Edwardian shirtwaists and lingerie dresses. I am happy to see that you’re becoming happier in your sewing. After all, that’s the joy of being able to create is to be able to do it at your own pace.

Thanks for the shout out! 😊 I feel like these vintage pattern books with their vague instructions are actually really conducive to chaos sewing. "Finish in the usual way" - in other words - do whatever you want! 😂 Your dahlias are lovely, and so is your frosted cupcake of a dress!

The easiest way to do shirring is to use shirring elastic in your bobbin. This way the shirring is stretchy (great if you might change shape and no problem if you don’t !) Shirring elastic was available to the Edwardians, so nobody can post snarky comments about “historical accuracy “. I absolutely love your lingerie dress! It’s as close to perfect as anyone could want.

As always you have done a spectacular job! I keep telling myself that I want to make Edwardian "things" but have yet to actually do it. I might need listen to myself and actually make it. :)

Another question . . .do you kind of know the yardage requirements for this dress

  • @dsathreads

I used three bundles of 5 yard cotton sheet fabric. So it was 15 yards but that included mistakes and I didn’t use it all. The cost of all three was about $90
