How I’m Using the Hobonichi Hon in 2024

Hobonichi daily pages are used for journaling but what if you’re like me and you don’t journal daily? Here’s how I’m using the Hobonichi Hon, part II:
.
.
📅 Schedule Section - Daily Page
In my planner I plan out my daily schedule but in the Hobonichi Hon I’d like to document how my day actually went. So often the intent and the actual timeline of the day are two different things.
📅 To the Right of the Schedule - Daily Page
Since my last post I’ve made a small change to how I’m using my weekly spread because of what I came up with for the dailies. In my weekly pages instead of a section for a daily reflection I’ll use this space for daily intentions. Reflections summarize the actual day while intentions are things you mean to do for the day. “Daily intentions manifest a sense of focus and empower you to create the kind of day you want to have” (WholesomeCulture, 2020). I’ll use this powerful practice in my weekly columns and reflect on how well I achieved those intentions on my daily pages.
📅 Bottom Section - Daily Page
I dont journal everyday but my mind still races with ideas, arguments, and observations. Like my internal debate on wether I like 4mm or 5mm grid in a notebook 😂 I usually do this in a notebook but I thought having this in my daily planner will help keep these thoughts more accessible so I can use them when I need them. I’m a self diagnosed over thinker and the Hon gives me a roomy page to be me.
📅 Blank Monthly Page
I’ll use this page as a monthly reflection but I want to try to be decorative and creative here. This page has no grid and a writing heavy purpose might not be ideal. This will be my opportunity to be creative in my Hobonichi. I’m a functional planner more than anything else so one page per month to be be creative seems very doable.
With such a large page to experiment with I used a vellum sheet to write out a plan for the daily pages - and I ran out of transparent stickies after part one 🥴 I’ll be sharing a chatty walk thru on my You Tube channel going into more detail on how I’m using the Hobonichi Hon in 2024. I’m really excited for this book because it’ll be filled with my hopes and dreams and not just the tasks and to do’s that I have in my TN planner.

Genius idea to use clear sticky notes and vellum to mockup page layouts! And I grinned when you talked about needing space to write out thoughts that you were fixated on - I recently filled 8 (yes, eight) pages of my A5 Common Planner with a rambling argument with myself about next year's planner setup 🤣 (P.S. Love the Halloween nails!)

Not gonna lie, I clicked on this cuz I want a Hobonichi Hon, but couldn't justify it cuz I plan in a different more portable planner...but I couldn't stop thinking about that hobonichi hon (liberty fabric). And you just opened my mind to the idea of a companion planner! All those things I kinda keep in notebooks, scrap paper, sticky notes or the back of my mind. Now they can have a home and I can have a Hobonich Hon!!!

I checked the link for amazon for the Moterm was disappointed to see they didnt have the cream zipper cover just colors I am not interested in at the moment( maybe seasonal?). I have an A6 Sterling ink 520 page notebook in the Moterm cover and it’s a great fit! The thinner book might feel too loose.

This is a Hobonichi brand cover specifically for the Hon I got on Jet Pens. It’s a perfect fit. I can totally see myself taking it out of the Mortem and leaving it in the plastic cover without issue.

HON = British English „on“ with an „h“ in the front. You’re pronouncing it almost right, just a tad shorter. 🙌 I speak Japanese btw 😅
