How I lost 65 lbs in 6.5 months

This is the answer to the question viewiers have been asking me for some time. I am somewhat embarassed and more than a little uncomfortable talking about this topic, but I feel like I'm disapointing people if I don't respond. So here it is.

Well done, Marine. This video is almost five years old now and hope you've been able to maintain your healthy slimness. - I am a little older (73) now and am on the same journey having lost 44 pounds in the last 90 days by reducing calories to 1,800 a day with a maximum of 20 carbs a day. From 229 to 185 so far, works for me! I don't feel like I am on a diet, it has now become a permanent change in lifestyle. - Semper Fi Brother

Wow...this may be the first truly honest weight loss explanation I've heard. I have struggled with weight most of my adult life. I used to be very active and ate a lot to maintain. I then got into law enforcement and became sedentary but still ate the same. I need to lose about 100lbs. I've been trying for some time now but it's always down 30 up 40. I do obsess over the number on the scale. You have changed my thinking on this and I am going to make this happen...hrfunk style. Thank you for making this video and for the inspiration sir.

Without question one of the best videos I've seen on KZread irrespective of subject. As someone in your age bracket, this is one of the most practical narratives I've seen on weight loss. Didn't expect to see it on a 2A subject channel, but it speaks for itself. Continue as you were - stay the course - you are an inspiration to others. I'm 6'1, currently 280, former football lineman, targeting to 220. Semper Fi - thank you for your service! Your other videos are exemplary as well.

I've been a subscriber for a while, but I only just came across this video. I trust that you will take it as a compliment when I say this... I have seen several of your older videos pre weight loss, and I didn't realize you were the same person. More impressive than the actual weight loss is that you have kept it off four years later. As anyone who has lost a decent amount of weight knows, losing it is the easy part - keeping it off is the real test.

Wow! You look so much leaner and congratulations on overcoming that weight! I got out of the Marines almost a year ago and packed on the pounds, my heaviest weight which was 242lbs, I was not happy with myself. Since missing being in the military so I started on my path to lose weight to enlist in the Army which I am closer to making tape now I weigh 220lbs. Things that helped diet wise was sticking to foods that are closest to its natural form, have fruits, vegetables, salads. Run til I burn 1K calories on my cardio days, at minimum burn 700 calories through HIT workout or on a rest days go on a 6 mile walk. Finding the discipline and motivation to stay consistent for me was pretty much self indoctrination of surrounding myself with things that resemble what I want to achieve and listen to people on podcasts that have achieved their goals, how they dealt with the struggles, what they have learned, and how joyful they are to achieve those goals. All of that created my laser focus to pursue the goals I want to acquire.

I had a similar experience, and as much as a diet sucks, once you see how "easy" it is to make the necessary changes to your life and to get the weight off, it gets easier. You do find new things to eat and drink that are satisfying and enjoyable and even the exercise becomes fun, because you can see the end results.

Brilliant achievement hrfunk, just done the same thing myself over the last few months and like yourself, I could not care less what I weigh, just getting back in shape. I also agree that one does not want to do too much exercise when you reach our age, just enough to keep sharp. I also do press ups every morning and 5 minutes of weights. I actually lost quite a lot of weight by splitting wood and a bit of running. However I really hate running so my solution might amuse you! I have 100 acres of woods so I invested in a duelling tree and 20 AR500 10 inch gongs and set them up on swinging mountings over a short 1 mile course which rises 120 feet in altitude through the woods. Every other day I run with my Buckmark .22 carbine (we are only allowed semi-autos in .22 over here) on a 'run and shoot' sprint between targets which I engage at 25 yards. Let me tell you it is an extremely good way to gauge fitness because you can see your 'recovery time' between targets reducing week by week and it makes getting in shape fun! Plus it really improves your snap shooting ability when hunting.

Over the last three years I’ve lost 200 of those lbs and am working on the last 50. I did exactly what you did. No breakfast, a turkey or ham sandwich every day for lunch, and 1000 calories for dinner. It works.

I was originally echoing what has been drummed into my head my whole life about eating breakfast. I don't think it needs to be done as soon as you put your pants on and I also don't think a piece of fruit or glass of oj will cut it. If interested in knowing, I drive a truck here on So Cal locally.

However it works out, his system is still working three years later. That’s great. But I have always heard that one should eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a Pauper. The idea being, that eating a heavy meal before bedtime (not just before bedtime, but as a last main meal Of the day), leaves You with unburnt calories all night. A big (bigger?) breakfast replenishes you and carries you over to the upcoming meals. Breakfast is supposed to help your thought processes too. Which should be helpful if you have a “normal” (daytime) work schedule.

18winsagin, I'll be 73 at the end of the year. I've been smoking since I was 16. It was the norm back then. I still smoke (close to a pack of a day. Winston regular red box), and not ashamed to admit it. Seldom are the joys in this life. Never was that fond of food. I only eat once a day. Dinner. Coffee? Oh yes. A cup goes hand and hand with a Winston. At this age, these are the end of days. Infirmed at 80? I don't think so, 18winsagin. But to each his own.

Congratulations on your lifestyle change. I too, struggled with my weight since I was a kid. Went from 200lbs down to 145lbs my Sophomore summer. I retired in 2009 and stayed around 240-250lbs until I bought a two-story house and my knees hurt when going up and down the stairs. I dropped down to 200lbs and fluctuate between 180-210lbs. After over being on 12 diets, dieting should be lowering carbs and by weeks-months until your goal is reached. Last year, it took 3 weeks to drop 3 pounds to 198. Carbs are what causes hunger pains.

When one has diabetes, as I do, you are hungry all of the time. Sometimes you can be hungry, eat a full meal and still be just as hungry as you were before the meal. Keep the weight off and try to avoid having diabetes as much as you can.

"Ach du lieber, mein freund"! As a subscriber, this is my second comment to one of your videos. Wonderful video here!! You look like a million bucks (not does!)! My story. Years ago I went from 265lbs down to 200lbs in about a year (I was about 5ft 11 1/2" tall or so). A doctor I used to have swore at me & said he'd be looking for me in the obituaries! I was pre-diabetic. My wife's mother went blind because of being diabetic. My diet success was from eating 3 moderate meals a day, NO second helpings & NO snacking (almost!), & using our exercycle every day for 5 miles a day. That was hard for me to keep as I "lived to eat"! But with my wife's help, I made the weight loss. I am 78 now & "only" borderline" diabetic but have good eyesight. I don't pay too much attention to my diet, but I am about 210lbs now. My wife carefully watches the kinds of foods & drinks I have & have regular doctor checkups. Also, when I was 13 years old, I was 5ft 11 1/2" & 183lbs. I have to admit though that where "you go in", I "go out"!!! Also too, wish I had a "flat top" haircut like yours! I don't have enough!!! Don't forget, Jesus is waiting patiently for you.

Congratulations, and especially on maintaining the progress. My motivation was being the first male in my family to live past the age of 45 in 3 generations. At age 39 I got into the best shape of my life. At 5'6" I was benching 235 pounds while weighing 165, but did not maintain. Later, at age 48 I needed a stent in my heart anyway. Exercised again after that, slowed down, and then hit it hard. Got in even BETTER shape at 54, jogging 4 miles 3 times a week, lifting weights 3 alternating days, but not to the same level of strength. However, for the first time in my life I was able to see my abs. I was not ripped in any way (in my torso) but I could see the lines of my abs, and never saw that before in my life. That took an incredible amount of dedication to reach, and I only wanted to see if I could get there. Then in 2020 everything (society) shut down. I got lazy again, and now ready to get back at it, but at a more realistic level. I also ate more "right" during those times too. Gotta get back to that too. I appreciate the motivation and hearing how you achieved your success. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the video. It is a motivator. Having had weight issues also since a child I understand how personal this is, and why I know it took courage for you to do this video. You are at the weight I was out of boot camp, after having to go to Pork Chop Platoon.I like the idea of moderate exercise and keeping active around the house. At 53 I am not about to start running and tear up my knees but brisk walking is definitely more my pace. Thanks again for the video.
