Learning minimalism to travel full-time and sleep in my car was anything but Easy. Today, that experiment has turned into living rent-free by sleeping in a Prius and going anywhere I wish since March 3rd, 2017. In that time I’ve met enough people to learn how rampant these ideas have become. We’re yearning to escape the familiar, live simply, downsize, and dispose of reservations that never served our truest selves. Prius camping has unlocked the "world," allowing me to travel full-time for very cheap, and I'm not done yet. Have you tried camping in your car? Think you could make this lifestyle work full time?

    Most people would never consider someone can/would sleep in the back of a Prius and most folks aren’t tall enough to really notice it’s a solar panel. People that have often think it’s to help power the vehicle. 😂

    @@LiveEasy they defeat their whole purpose, their purpose is to be economically friendly yes? but as soon as the electric engine dies and the backup engine kicks in, theyll put off more pollution than a v8 and they still have the decency to sell em for $10-15k they arent actually an electric car, theyre technically a hybrid

  • @LiveEasy

    @LiveEasy

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for responding. Economically friendly? Yeah, it cut my gas/travel costs in half. Since owning it I’ve saved around $6000. Of course it’s a hybrid and not a full electric vehicle. They’ve been around since the 90s. Who is claiming differently? What you said about them polluting as much as a V8 is simply wrong. Do you really believe that? Are you attempting to reference the immediately debunked, yet highly viral, article about a Prius being worse for the planet than a Hummer? It was so obviously flawed in their data that the publication retracted it.

    I’m a high school student and I’ve been living an old 99 Toyota corolla with my dad for almost 8 months and I’ve had to deal with the “Boy Scout” of the neighborhood and very paranoid people many many times and seeing someone know how it feels makes me feel better and this video is Very relatable especially with the want to keep things safe and just not be bothered by nosey people who are quick to judge and call the police. The hardest part of this is going to school cause I get tons of looks when people see the blankets but at the end of the day I am so thankful to have been going through this and summers are the best cause you can travel and really enjoy it as much as you can. Awesome vid

    Colton Wilkie Did you actually read what I said, they were assuming not me, I guess the problem was is that I added the lazy part with all of you instead of just your parents and that’s why you got mad. I was basically trying to make a point but it was not a definite point, that is why I told them you all probably save and have jobs and that is why you may live that way. I am not rude, I was defending your situation but I get it now your just a typical selfish person and you don’t mind people trash talking your parents as long as it’s not you, well some people are a reflection of their parents.

    kinda forced to live in a vehicle now. My first choice is a Prius. While I do have a home and my family lives with me. The biggest issue is I am 21 and all the work is two hours away in another town. (Small town america am I right?) So not only do I have to drive two hours to work two jobs and go to school. I also have to sleep in my vehicle so I dont swerve around and kill myself or someone else. My obvious choice is to get another vehicle to stay in. I have the money, the funds, the time, and a location. All I need is to convert the vehicle for part time living. The prius seems the best choice because of fuel and its cooling/heating options. Most people will say "GET A APARTMENT LOL" but why would I? It would just be a major drain on what money I have. I would barely use it with my busy schedule other then to sleep or eat a few meals. I don't want to be tied down with all those bills, I have a home I live in that my family uses. (inherited) why should I just drain away my money that could be used to fund for school? Im playing it smart here as I can get.

    I've seen multiple videos of people living out of a Van, SUV or car but my main question always is... what the hell do these people do for money?... I imagine their jobs are something that's online because i can't see someone always on the move and having a job that isn't online. I guess it determines what job you have for this to be a viable option. I do really enjoy seeing these videos because it proves the "I can't afford this/ i need more money" people wrong in a way... It's all about budgeting and living out of a vehicle is budgeting at it's extreme imo. No electricity bills (unless you're driving a Prius), Gas bills literally boil down to your car and if you built yourself a kitchen then how often you buy a propane tank. Internet bills would be far lower as i imagine you would be using free wifi hot-spots and your mobile plan internet majority of the time

    Most people in America live paycheck to paycheck, little to no savings, getting in debt for the latest gadgets and stuff. Year after year, rinse and repeat. Life is over before you know it. You live freely, travel, and look happy and healthy. It takes courage and discipline to plan things like this and execute it especially. Hats off to you. You will achieve anything you want. You are way ahead of the game. This overworked city guy salutes you! Stay safe, healthy and happy! Andrew

    I lived out of a car for 5 months and then a large cargo van for 9 months. The cargo van with a cage was much better for privacy although when sleeping in a car and you get cold, you turn on the engine and run the heat and then go back to sleep. I have housing now. These KZread videos had an impact on my decision to try this lifestyle. To be honest, I found the whole fucking thing to be depressing and you know you are living on the wrong side of the law since there are cops out at night looking for people to mess with. They say you do not know what you have until it is gone. Having heat at night, a toilet to use, running water and even a sink to spit your toothpaste after brushing your teeth are wonderful things to have. I can only speak from my experience.

    I mean this in the nicest way possible but I’d just like to point out the need to be super organised is NOT OCD. I’m not offended because, frankly, I have pretty thick skin but lots of people talk about “having OCD” but all they’re doing is trivialising the condition. It’s distressing to live with genuine OCD. The risk of suicide is higher and substance abuse is common. When you have legit OCD, you only engage in specific actions as a way to stop something terrible (bearing in mind this terrible thing is usually completely fabricated in your head) from happening. Just for the sake of education, here’s an example: Switching a light on and off three times when you enter a room because it’s a habit - not OCD Switching a light on and off three times when you enter a room because you’re terrified that a murderer will be encouraged to enter and kill you if you don’t - more likely to be OCD Being organised for the sake of it and because it looks pretty - not OCD Being organised so that you are prepared for the apocalypse and want to make sure that you can grab everything you need at a moment’s notice - more likely to be OCD Having intrusive thoughts about your partner engaging in sexual acts (maybe even somebody from their past) and abusing substances or asking questions about her past to help “cope” with the images - likely to be OCD Quadruple checking that your house windows are locked because if you don’t lock it, your cat might escape and get hit by a car - likely to be OCD Hoarding personal possessions due to a fear of losing your identity if you give up or sell the things you own - likely to be OCD OCD can be horrendously destructive to one’s psyche. I know you didn’t mean anything by it but, as someone that suffers with it, I just want to get as much education out there as possible so that next time someone says it, they stop and reassess. Best wishes to you :)

    +Lucas Williams I'm sorry to tell you but switching a light on/off a specific amount of times before one enters/exits a room IS obsessive compulsive. What you're calling a habit is actually OCD. Being organized is NOT OCD. However, if items are moved and one immediately places them back to their original locations (accompanied by stress) OCD would likely be the diagnosis. Doing any of the above because one thinks they'll be murdered or there's a coming apocalypse, it's probably schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

I have heard people say that it pollutes more than a hummer, that the fuel economy is exaggerated and actually worse than comparable gas vehicles, and that if you drive one you are a feminine gay extreme liberal who drives horribly and virtue signals to everyone around them about how they are saving the planet. 🤔

  • @EricHillAuthor

    @EricHillAuthor

    5 жыл бұрын

    Ha, ha, ha. I wasn't trying to save the planet when I purchased my Prius. After owning a Ford Explorer, I was trying to save some cash by being able to pass by as many gas stations as I could without stopping. As far as exaggerating gas mileage, I was getting 48-50 mpg when I first purchased it. That was eight years ago. I probably get around 45 or so mpg now. I think this is because of my driving habits. When I first got the car, I paid attention to how my driving may be influencing the mpg. Now I don't pay attention. But I'm still passing by a lot of gas stations. As for being feminine, gay, extremely liberal. I'm pretty sure I don't qualify. You mentioned getting exceptional wear out of your brake pads. Honestly, I thought I was being negligent because I have 98,000 miles and I'm on the same pads. I had the dealership check them with my last oil change. They said, "Nope, you don't need pads. Still good." These folks can talk about my Prius all they want. It has been nothing but outstanding. I love it!

    Wow. Truly came across several ideas I have never seen before here! Exercise mat, boat carpet, and the perforated vinyl are brilliant solutions! Nice job.

    Michael Ayala Damnnnn. Do it and you’re my hero. Better get really good with minimalism if you want to keep up a decent appearance though. Every single time you leave a mess or don’t put something back, you create an obstacle for your future self.
