My dream was to sell my house in town and move to acreage in rural a country area. Finally at age 61 l did just that. I am 70 now and still love it. I have a little acre pond full of fish. Lots of wildlife. I mow, garden, can veggies and taught myself many things. Alone so happy for you. Rock on friend. We are living my dream.

I'm a carpenter and used to run a business. The older guys like me, used to pack a lunch and eat on the job while the younger guys went out a bought lunch every day. Eating out every day is very expensive. Wawa in the morning, coffee and a breakfast sandwich, and then lunch with a hoagie or cheeses steak or even a couple slices of pizza can ad up to around $16 - $20 Bucks a day. X that by 20 workdays in the month and you have $320 to $400 a month! Now X that by 12 and you got $3,840 to $4800 a year!!! It adds up very quickly. So, pack a lunch and bring a thermos of coffee and see how much you'll save!!

Very true. You hit on the reason why a lot of people struggle to make it. My wife and I are in our 70's and comfortable while a lot of people who made way more money than we did are still having to work.

Most women never get their dreams to come true and the only reason I believe that you got yours to come true is because you is obsessed with it you had it in your heart and you lived and breathed it that is the reason why you did what you did for a single woman doing it on her own you don't have no idea how happy it is to know that a woman did this and got her dream❤

I moved back to Alaska about 1 1/2 years ago, bought undeveloped land, cleared it put in a pad and a couple of 40' connexes, one for storage, and one to live in, set it up with R30 foam insulation without any studs, just covering the floor walls and ceiling with painted plywood. this cost me some 13" inches off my internal dimensions, so my high box ended up at about 92" tall inside and the width at 77". Artic entry with a rubber mat covered floor that slopes to the front door 2" drop in 8', still R30 on the walls and ceiling. Li ion battery bank in the living area and 13.6 KW output of solar panels on 20' tall sun tracking mounts on a old south facing riverbank overlooking a 18' down slough. Most of my heating comes from the charging and discharging of the batteries. Near the winter solstice, I still get some shading from some really tall beetle killed spruce in the slough, and until I clear them out, I will need to suplement my heat through the 5 week period around the winter solstice, (a couple of 20# propane tanks and a indoor safe mr buddy heater handled that this winter). Total expendature perhaps $75 for propane heat and gasoline generator usage over the winter. I am in the process of putting in a foundation for a large log cabin, 40' by 60' with basement completly underground. Current age 68.

I also crafted my dream of self reliance in the middle of a city. turned my whole lot into a garden.. learned how to preserve that food.. how to live large and free yet frugal and minimalist. I never made more than minimum wage... yet I managed to put almost 200G away and paid for my house. then I cashed out my savings and helped my one and only child buy a house. today... we are worth a combined 1.2 million and can live well within our means even in this horrible economic climate. I have a truck and a van I overland with.. and my daughter has a new car. all about living from a budget and looking after the pennies.. and the dollars look after themselves. if I can do this on minimum wage from running a business from my home.. and learning how to manage my money..? anyone with some self discipline can do it. and I had to grow my self discipline like Alone did. it wasn't innate. I can't quite make the jump to content creation online as editing videos is almost beyond me.. but I am slowly learning to do that as well. currently spending too much time watching other people's content.. lol you don';t have to be rich or have a great job to live your dreams. you just gotta do it the only way you can.

Hi, I so enjoyed this video. I’m 66 now and I remember the first time I was bit by the off grid lifestyle. It was 1969 when my uncle invited me to go to their cabin. No power, no generator just a hand pump on the porch and a old ice box. Since then I learnt as much as I could to be able to live this way. I’m Excited now that we just bought 70 acres in more of a remote than we live now. We can’t see any others houses, just the river and wildlife. It’s a beautiful thing and I can’t wait to get moved there later this year. Thank you for sharing your story 🇨🇦🌷

Cost cutting, planning, investing (actually the tool that allowed me to really grow, financially....My obsession now...and want others to learn..) and yes many of the same KZread creators were a weekly must. If you want something bad enough, you will find a way! Yes, sometimes it takes somebody to push you, to make it happen. Well you can rest easily now, as there is nobody calling "wolf", in fact I know you don't hear anything out there, except for many "eating crow"! Like they say: It's not easy, and if it was everyone would be doing it! Laughed so hard, when you were talking about the headlamp in your house. Don't take this wrong! You are hard core! Love it. I here now dub thee,, an honorary Sourdough!

And believe it or not, even with all the frequent power outages here, I don't think I have ever worn it once here, despite having them stashed all over the cabin in the event that they are ever needed. Can never be too prepared. And I take that as a seal of approval. And stamped by the one and only 1968AlaskanSourdough himself nonetheless! 🤗💗🐺

Hi Alone. This video reminds me of my obsession with retirement and living in a Tiny house or Van! Everyone thinks I’m nuts and some family members even roll their eyes and snicker when I speak of my dream. Last year I started cat camping and preparing for my retirement. I have started getting rid of “things” that I have collected over my adult life and when I make new purchases or consider new purchases, I ask myself if it will work in a van or Tiny house. I enjoy your videos so much because it shows me that I CAN make my dream a reality and I am well on my way already! Thanks for sharing your life with all of us. Take care!😊❤️

All such great practical advice. My husband does not enjoy going out to eat so we have always saved money from not going out. I think that was one of the biggest adjustments during the pandemic for people, the inability to eat out but then many restaurants started outdoor dining. I’m too frugal to buy tea/lattes/coffee from takeout establishments. You can bought a whole box or can of tea or coffee for what two takeout cups would cost you. It’s all in priorities. It is amazing how much money one can save when you get rid of all the fluff. Thanks for sharing your tips.

It's funny how we do things that work for us, but others think we're crazy for it! I only buy groceries once a month. That being said, I only buy what is a good deal and on sale. Then I buy extra to put in the freezer or on the shelf. My neighbor is the same way so we do a lot of shopping together.

Great video, I also am somewhat of a nomad I've lived in a van for a few years while working (totally City stealth camping) and recently bought 20 acres in the high desert of Nevada, Elko county then I plan on homesteading myself.. the only thing I see a problem for anyone single and living in the bush is loneliness!!

Back in my younger years i almost took off for Alaska willy nilly. Didnt hav a plan but did hav a seismic job. i almost came up with a seismic company i was workin for repairing their cables which the exploration could only be done in winter when everthing was frozen.. They said i would hav to wear a gun n not be afraid to use it unless i was willing to be everybodys girlfriend. At the time i wasnt of the idea of a gun. But i guess i wouldve been taken care of in winter. Sometimes i wish i had done it. Regrets. Probably why i live in mountains now. Mini Alaska.

I just bought my dream home in Fairbanks ak, it's sitting on 8.5 acres, most of my family called me crazy. I've been planning on moving to Ak for 8 years, for 8 years I was obsessed with watching the t.v. shows buying Alaska, and living Alaska, literally on my days off I would binge watch these two shows, once I decide to make this move,8 years ago I cut my spending, and started investing in things that are a hedge against inflation, 8 years later I'm able to retire and start living life the way God intended for us to live, and I'm only 49 years old. if you have a dream you have to pursuit it, and protect it at all cost

We have to be good stewart's with our resources. Unfortunately we don't always teach our children this way of life. Being frugal is not going without. Most successful people have a long range plan. Peace Love Happiness 💖💖

Although my path wasn't exactly the same as yours, my journey from the lower 48 to living off grid alone in remote Alaska has been very similar! Also, your American flag is missing the star for Alaska!
