From a native speaker it's not an overstatement to say that her pronunciation really is top notch. There aren't many people that manage those ão, ões, etc sounds.

She doesn’t pronounce those sounds very strongly if you listen closely. Her tão sounds much like tau, and pão sounds like pau. She’ll also schwa her s in between vowels which is not the rule in standard Portuguese (some dialects in Portugal will use the zh sound). She sounds good, but there is work to be done.

@@hannahwalmer1124 The tão is not perfect but is quite far from tau. Estação, capitães, opções are indistinguishable from native. Those are difficult sounds. All in all it's very good easily at fluent level. In longer sentences the way to spot it's not native it's not by looking at errors but the opposite, the sentences are sometimes too clean.

Hey, liz. I have been learning for around 1 month now and enjoying your videos. I watch others but yours are the best for me. When the euros started I realised my neighbour 2 doors down was Portuguese as he had a giant flag outside his property. I asked him a question in Portuguese in the garden to surprise him in learning his language and he was quite complimentary of my pronunciation considering my London accent. I don’t see them every day but he talks to me in Portuguese first when I do and the same with his wife. Made me feel great

The mistake a lot of people make is they think you just listen to music, watch TV, and hang out at bars. There is no substitution for classroom instruction and having classmates to practice with outside of classes.

A structured approach is essential, but it doesn't necessarily have to take place in a classroom. Practicing is key, and finding a language learning partner early on is highly beneficial! :)

I can not recommend Talk the Streets and Liz highly enough. The confidence and courage I now have is down to this course and these videos. Yes pronunciation is KEY. And getting a language buddy too. Today I heard I have passed my CIPLE A2 exam so now can progress my application to become a Portuguese citizen. I would not have done this without all the amazing support from this course, Liz and her amazing team. What are you waiting for? Get started!

How many languages did you speak before learning Portuguese? I am sure it does help if you've already learned other Roman languages as a child. I often joke that I am bye-lingual because languages learned at young age such as mother tongue and English stick really well and languages learned as a teenager stick a bit but are also mixed up within my memory. Languages learned as an adult: almost not sticking at all.

@@TalktheStreets maybe I am just not very talented with languages. It's so discouraging that I try to communicate (which goes okayish because clearly one understands me) but when they reply I am lost. I politely ask if they can speak a bit slower please but after 4 palavras it's back to waaaaaaaay to quick Alentejan dialect.
