    1.) Be aware the journey is finite 2.) Know your why's (and write them down) 3.) Break down the main goal into tiny little goals (and reward yourself when meeting the goal) 4.) Stop comparing yourself to others 5.) You cannot control the outcome or output, you can only control the input (how often do I walk, how many calories do I put in etc) 6.) It's not about motivation, it's about consistency (motivation will lack in the middle) 7.) Look for inspiration and don't fall into the comparison trap (unfollow channels that make you feel negative) 8.) Pick up a routine you can stick to 9.) It's OK and valid to feel upset / to feel any emotion So insightful and well explained, thank you for that!!

    I’ve never seen a video talking about the “middle” before so thank you for addressing this. I’m at the beginning of my journey (again). One thing I would add is celebrating the NSVs. My sister has lost 60ish pounds so far and tells me that those moments mean so much; being able to cross your legs, wrapping a towel around you, etc. ❤👄

    I've been in the middle SO many times. My trick to pass the middle was blue jeans. When I was a size 24 I brought 1 pair that was a size 22. I took a video of myself once a week until I could fit them. Then I brought a size 20, then 18 , and so on until I reached my goal. Weight loss isn't easy, but it is doable once you find out what works for you. 💕

    My concern about viewing weight loss as a finite state is that some people might take that to mean that once you get to your goal you can go back to your old ways. I prefer to look at it as a lifestyle I can live with even when I get to maintenance. When I get to the middle ( or a stall) I think that this is what maintenance will look like.

  • @HalfofCarla

    @HalfofCarla

    I think the reason that the odds are stacked up against us to regain the weight after weight loss is that people don't address the habits/reasons why they became overweight and in turn white knuckle it through weight loss. Absolutely, I agree that it's a lifestyle change and by addressing those habits, you'll be able to life your life again in maintenance.

  • @DesireeStamat

    @DesireeStamat

    I was going to state this sentiment. As we go down in weight gradually our calorie needs will lower as well and eventually it all events out into maintenance. I never had a "finite" situation that you described. I just got used to eating less and less in the process. I have maintained about 40% of my weight loss for over 10 years, but having to re-lose a big chunk of it again unfortunately. Got to work on the entire package.

    I am in the middle right now. I’ve lost 10kg and still have about 10-13kg to go. But for a month now the scale won’t budge and my mental health took a nosedive. Never in my life have I felt so self conscious. This is my 4th weight loss attempt and even five years ago at almost 100kg I had a better body image than now at 83kg. My negative self talk just got worse and worse. I am envious of my friends because they achieve their goals and I do not. I hate that I can no longer celebrate with them. And I have started to ask myself if the goal is even worth it if I am hating myself so much now. Two days ago I decided to look up on youtube if anybody else is experiencing the same problems and I found you. You are describing it so perfectly and you have reminded me of my own strength and shown me that I can pull myself out of that hole I've dug myself into. Thank You! ❤👄

    I'm always trying to think of ways to motivate myself, lately I've been using a hot air balloon imagery. In fact i made a model. The analogy is: my life is the balloon, it wants to fly but it is tethered to the ground by ropes attached to sand bags. Every sand bag is a kilo of weight. Every time i lose a kilo, I cut one of the ropes, and one day I will fly.

  • @brittanybrown273

    @brittanybrown273

    Жыл бұрын

    @@debmi8839 I went full carnivore for about 6 weeks and then to keto, now I'm trying out Paleo. I think I needed that drastic change to help me and to also stop shaming myself so much. For me it more about the mental aspect vs the actual food when it comes to binging. I think it only worked because I have been working on my mental health as well. I'm an incest survivor, my oldest son had cancer as a baby, and another of my kids has another life threatening illness. So I have really been focusing on mental health lately. I think all the fat from eating carnivore and keto helped me to think more clearly and to be able to handle my emotions better. I think it all kinda tied in to be the perfect storm for me. I've not been super dogmatic about any diet. I know if I restrict too much I will fall and binge. I love the Christmas tree Debbie cakes so instead of telling myself no I will have a few of them and call it a day. Not everyday but if I want one really bad I'll go for it now. I don't have emotions towards it and shame myself, I just make the choice and move on. It's better than binging after my kids go to bed every night! Progress over perfection. I do have a video that helped me a whole lot. I'll try to post the link. It's a bariatric surgeon being interviewed and talking about food crutches while transitioning. For example, diet coke isn't good for you but it's better than a regular coke that will add calories. So I do have mini cans of diet coke and I keep life savers mints in my purse for when I have cravings. Once I get to a comfortable place I will try to remove those too but for now I think that's a huge help and keeps me from crashing and burning.

    This is one of the best videos on KZread in my opinion. I began my weight loss in August 2023 and I've lost 30 pounds. I have about 40-50 more to go. But the past 3 months have been such a struggle because I've been stuck, and not for a lack of trying. I just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I got burnt out. When feeling frustrated, I've learned to re-focus on progress instead of perfection. Then I try to immediately make several healthy choices in a row: cup of broth, glass of water, short walk, prepare something healthy for next meal, savor a small peace of dark chocolate with a good cup of coffee. Doing 3 or 4 healthy things helps me feel more positive, like I'm getting off the struggle bus.

    I love this discussion. It is likely true that nearly all of us striving are currently in the middle (otherwise we would all be beginners and enders) and that middle is like a huge wall in front of my face. That is, if I choose to see it that way. Now I am reframing my middle as a long journey towards the horizon and I know that path will take me towards that horizon which is grace. I am absolutely in the middle but I am also absolutely committed to this path I am on. My amount to lose needs to be around 30 lbs (which for me has been a very high barrier since it has never been lower since menopause a decade ago) and committing to my plan, I have so far lost 12 of those 30 lbs. And even if it seems at times like I am circling instead of progressing, I know with complete certainty that I will get there. In fact, there are a few things I can add in that will boost my progress and I look forward to starting to do those things (a daily walk, say) that will amplify my results. I am already dedicated to recording my calorie intake and have done so since I started this journey in late July 2022 from which those 12 lbs are definitely now gone. My big why is having gotten breast cancer in 2021 that I am sure having gained excess post-menopausal weight contributed to. Now I am motivated with the fire of 10,000 suns to rid myself of all that weight and reach for health. I am doing it and I am opting not to care about the length of the time the middle takes since every single day is another day of betterment and that is what keeps my motivation high. Thank you, Carla!💋❤

    Thank u. I cope with food for years. After my daughters were born 40 years ago I lost myself in weight. Now doing Weight Watchers in my sixties. I’m struggling but found you yesterday and a new found push to do it this time for real!! Thank you! Best for holiday season
