I tried this on my extra long thick and frizzy hair and here is how I made it work (bouncy curls lasting 3 days): - apply heat protection - dry my roots - smooth out my difficult-to-tame parts of my hair (frizzy top, bangs roots and neck line back parts) using the round brush attachement - apply mousse (i bought a Wella one with high hold effect): plays a HUGE role. I usually start applying mousse by section (half of my hair) - section my hair; re dampen the section if it dried out; - curling hair with tight curl attachment (10 sec heat and 10 sec cool air technique) Make sure to curl SMALL sections: as heavy curls do not hold the weight and the thickness prevents it from getting enough heat - clip the curl (as shown) - when all done apply spray - wait for the hair to cooldown for 30 minutes before removing the clips Enjoy beautiful curls 🥰 Thank you so much for the tips you gave me... you made me change my mind and keep my Dyson!

Interesting! I have long frizzy hair and i do the same process as you and even wella mousse and it seems to work.... I was wondering after you remove clips do you brush hair out? I found if i brush my hair out it drops but if i leave the curl as it.. they last all day. The problem with that it's like big ringlets I quite like the soft wave look. Any tips?

@@neverworenowadore well, i don't brush the curls right away. I curl my hair at night usually. When i am about to go out, i soften the ends with a brush and run my finger through my hair just to soften the curls a bit but without causing them to drop. The curls hold up to 3 days this way.

Would be nice to see a follow up how the curls actually look like after a couple of hours, a day and so forth. Also, a comparison of a curling iron or flattened would be nice..to see if dyson is really better or if it it a matter of products etc that lead to a good result

You're the first person I've found to review this and have a lot of thick, healthy hair (like mine). Going to give your tips a go. To the people who complain about this taking a long time and how this effect could be achieved with a hot iron, you don't have her hair type. My hair takes 30-40 mins to dry alone, then add another 30 mins of curling. This saves someone like me a step.

Thanks for sharing, it’s important that you mentioned that you have healthy not dyed hair that is dry. On many dyson reviews girls have dyed hair and in general dyed hair holds any kind of hairstyle way better vs natural smooth hair, and I do speak from experience since I used to have it dyed and now I have fully natural very healthy hair and it’s hard for anything to hold. In general Iron and other products produce way more heat and harm hair way more and that’s why they can hold a hairstyle longer, but dysons main advantage is not damaging hair so much, so it makes sense that it can’t hold for long without using additional styling products.

She has think healthy hair Shampoo: Christoff Robin Volume Conditionair: 1 pump of Nixon. Tangle teaser brush Acquiz hair turbine Dyson Airwrap. Concentrate on the roots when blow drying and do itnupsde down. Use hair mousse of Wella extra strong. Do the most on the lower parts of your hair untill it feels tacky . Hair needs to be cold to touch. You should feel dampness is the hair. Section your hair. Start with the lower parts. Put your Dyson on h8ghest power and heat. Hold 10sec. Than the cold shot for 10 sec. And let go. Take a pin to hold the curl. Close to your scalp. Make bouncing movements while holding the barrel at the ends. Add some tension so the hair is flat on the barrel. Moving on to the top section. Split in two. Split your hair in two. Wrap, pulse, roll up, 10sec warm with tension, 10sec cold with tension and release. Top top section. Bring it forward. Roll up and slide it of the barrel. Pin and voila. What to do with bangs. Use the round brush. Add a tiny bit of mouse as the hair is dried out. High heat, lower power for more control. Do the bangs side ways. Use a roller as last to keep shape and volume. Pin on each side. Spray after 2 minutes with. Schwarzkopf got2c hairspray. Leave in the pins for an hour. Use a wide tooth comb. Loose out the curls. Give it another spray of the got2b glued spray. End with dry shampoo at the roots for even more volume.

Thank you for the video and the extra tips! My own experience with this isn't the best unfortunately and I'm actually about to return this sadly... I really hoped it would work. But here's my experience, should this be of any use to anyone. I have long but fairly thin hair,. Naturally curly but because it's thin it tends to frizz a lot and just looks big and wild which is why I use this type of tool to help control it while still keeping it curly. One thing to note, the curls last just fine with other curlers. If I use a flat iron to curl it, I only need to use the Moroccan curl defining cream before styling (granted the heat applied is probably higher but not more than 200 C) I use the long thin barrel for tighter curls. *Pinning the curls and heavy use of hairspray is the only way I've managed to get the curls to last for a couple of days. *Only a little bit of hairspray, will have the curls last for a few hours tops. *A lot of hairspray will get them to last for a couple of days but! because the curls have to be tight + a lot of hairspray or a very strong hold one, can get them to look messy, and lose shine. *It takes me over 40 min to get my hair done + the extra hour like mentioned here with the pins if I have time. Before returning, I decided to give it another go with the extra tips on technique like pulsing the ends first then move on to the rest and not roll all the way up.

Thank you so much for this video. I have honestly been frantically searching youtube for a video on how to keep my curls from holding and your video has by far been my favorite. After a year and a half of hinting to my husband that I wanted the dyson airwrap he finally gifted me it a few months ago (a pregnancy gift after trying to conceive for 3 years), but I was so sad when I used it and it didn't hold the curls for longer than an hour, I kind of felt like I wasted his money :( but now watching this video I feel like I have learned loads of new tips so I shall pop into my local Boots and purchase those hair products you recommended and try again. Oh and if it works on my very thick long hair I might even do it this Saturday before I go to be induced as let's be honest might be a long while before I get to use it again after the baby arrives :D and hopefully can have a few pictures with the baby with nice hair if not any makeup :) Not sure why I gave you my life story I never really post comments on youtube videos I must just be really excited to try your tips and got a tad carried away lol. Once again many thanks x

Quick tip for setting/holding curl once its made at home so you dont have to wait ages for the hair to cool fully naturally. If you aim a fan or hair dryer on cool into your freezer and use the back breeze to hit your hair, it will help lock in the curl. Or if you live somewhere freezing and its not windy out, go outside for a moment and get the hair cold. My hair is naturally curly, and i do this if im bothered to use the diffuser on my hair dryer to lock it in.

I just watched this video (great tutorial thank you!) bc I used a Dyson for the first time yesterday, the time it took to finish disappointmented me a lot. I figured as you can use it one-handed it would be a huge time saver.. Alas it took me 30 minutes (didn't work well) and then another 20 minutes to redo it alongside a tutorial that told me to blow them hot for 10 secs then another 10 secs cold. DID work a lot better, but they still didn't hold for more than an hour and we're very loose. Now this tutorial tells me to dry to 80% then use 5 products, then double blow and then also use rollers and pins... For 500 euros I feel like these steps should all be optional not necessary, it should hold and work immediately without product as working a curling rod would... Personally I wouldn't be purchasing it again. I'd rather air dry and then my ghd hairstyler does just the same in less time... Only upside I found in the Dyson is that it doesn't leave the typical hot iron/burn smell, and leaves the hair significantly more shiny! But I can also just oil them after ironing😅 it's probably better for reducing long term heat damage, but if you only style your hair 2-3x a months with protectant, you should be good.. There's heatless curls as well That work amazing.

After having the Dyson for a few months I got to a conclusion. As someone with very thick, healthy and naturally straight hair I might need to follow your tutorial for the curls to actually hold, which in a way defeats the purpose. It is very easy for people that have dry and not so thick hair. Surprisingly I use it more a a hair dryer and the part that tames the flyaways is absolutely amazing. Interestingly how I ended up using a tool designed to curl to get straight shiny hair. So if you are someone like me and you think about buying it ask yourself if you actually have the patience to doo all these steps. Because if your hair is like mine the curling part takes longer than the curls last if you are not using any product. I will try this tutorial, hopefully I can finally have proper curls as normally hair dressers have to use half a can of spray to actually make them hold

You can get this exact result with any other hairdryer/iron curler. I feel like the whole selling point is that it should be easy and fast and this doesn't look like either.

Hi there and thank you for the great video! 🙂 Could you please tell me how high the heat is with this Dyson device? Is it bad enough for your hair? I typically use a hair straightening machine and it really damages my hair. For this reason I have to go often to the hair salon and have my ends cut. I mention that I do use a heat protection spray. However, this is inneficient. What can you say about the hair damage part?

So as you mentioned At the beginning of your blog that you wanted a style that would last for a couple of days, How do you keep the style for the couple of days? Do you prep your hair a certain way for bed? I move alot in my sleep and it's rare that I can keep a style looking nice for a couple days.

Really depends on how much hair you've got and what it's like - my super fine, thin and wavy hair doesn't need quite this much effort, but all styling requires a bit of a effort.

I have decided to return my new dyson airwrap because of the poor experience i had with it. It costed a bomb, but doesn’t keep the curls even for 20mins on my naturally wavy and frizzy hair despite using a mousse. I end up getting a weird extra frizzy jumble of hair after first 20mins. Going through this video, I realise that I have to give it a try your way, but it only highlights that dyson requires way too many steps and products to hold the style. Its not worth it.

Hello Mollie, I'm wondering how this compares to the GHD Rise? I have GHD Rise and find it too hard to learn to use it to have curles so I'm eyeing out for Airwrap, but it looks about the same effort/time. Can you please compare? Thanks ☺

I have the GHD hot brush, I used something similar to the GHD rise the trick is to make sure you are drying your hair properly before and if you have curly/ frizzy hair make sure it is smoothed out. Then the GHD rise should be easier to use, you want to follow it down your hair and flick away from your hair, slower (not too slow) rather than in fast motion and repeat! If you have straight hair you’ll need a lot of product :)
