@@tr1bes In California? No, the car in the video is certainly worn out but its not any more dangerous than anything else from that era. But California is too strict, I've seen cars fail inspection for having aftermarket brakes that were better than what the car came with from the factory.

Cop spent 10+ years in a professional career to people in single cam honda civics tickets for missing stickers... pretty crazy if you ask me.

This really makes my blood boil. I have been in this kind of situation before. Not this exact type but very close. Twice in California. I used to have a 1985 Toyota Corolla RWD, that was difficult to find OEM parts for in the mid 2000's. I could not for the life of me get the car to pass smog because no one could get the parts or have the knowledge to fix the carburetor correctly. No matter what I did, the car would pass and then fail smog for stupid reasons. It was an SOHC and my hopes were to change it over to one of the DOHC engines. This was before the Initial D craze. Cop's would pull me over and eventually, I had to let her get junked because CARB deemed her the smog system unrepairable. Another incident happened with my Mitsubishi Montero, but I sold it before it became a problem, as just finding a working engine took a few months, and parts were a pain to find. School police impounded it due to expired tags, as the truck's bumper needed to be replaced so it could pass the brake and light inspection, because the passenger side reverse light got smashed in due to a rear end collision which the insurance wrote the truck off. The Montero had everything working, but because one of the reverse light was smashed in. I needed to find a new bumper. While my Montero was in impound, I finally was able to find a rear bumper. The rear bumper costed me $400 but the impound fees cost me $3,500. As the Montero was impounded right when I got my paycheck and had to pay rent. Needless to say, this video kinda hits home. Many time, especially when one has an older vehicle, it is so difficult to find OEM parts, yet alone, there may be better Aftermarket parts available. However, because California requires OEM parts to pass smog and brake and light inspections. It forces so many people to junk perfectly good running vehicles, as adding modifications makes them a target. The whole tuner scene has basically disappeared in California because of the ridiculous laws that are on the books. Air intakes do not change emissions coming from the tailpipe. Yet California makes them illegal unless the cold air intake manufacturer pays the CARB tax to operate in the State. Smh...

Also the airbag thing, if the car not equipped with them you can swap out any steering wheel you want, but also i believe if the vehicle is salvaged title the airbags are no longer regulated? I know at dealerships, if a vehicle has an airbag recall but the vehicle has a salvaged title the recall does not apply. I’d do some research on that also and print EVERYTHING so next time they try to get you for something you have proof they’re wrong

Register the car in South Dakota, Pennington County. You can do everything online and mail stuff in to them. South Dakota allows out of state registration. I am in Cali for school and my EVO is registered at my home in Tennessee.

I remember a guy near me was running slicks on his car and got stopped. The officer was nice and told them to take it home and just got a warning. the guy with the car would rev his engine when ever the cop drove by his house. He said the cop was messing with him since he still had the slicks on the back. So, every time he would rev the engine with really loud exhaust and mods on the engine. The cop stopped one day and made a comment about the slicks and the guy said in my driveway nothing you can do. The next time the guy took his car out he changed the tires but got pulled over by the same cop that would drive by for illegal exhaust and modded Engine. He got reffed also cost him 8k to change things back.

cali has laws for everything except the stuff that actually matters

I once got a state ref ticket for having a blue vent tube from my valve cover to intake car was 100% legal when I went to the ref station the guys had a good laugh. I wasn’t happy had to take a day off work lost money and had to pay a ticket because the cop didn’t know what he was looking at

What happens to a car that gets state reffed and it doesn’t pass inspection. Only once did I have to get a state ref inspection for a universal catalytic coverter that failed smog and then was replaced with a carb legal one.

Thought I saw the CARB sticker next to hood latch but I could of been AC spec sticker. Not sure about the steering wheel and other laws off top of head. But I seen CHP during Salvage Inspection pass them. Doubt it came from factory with airbags cant remember. -Get Vehicle Report from DMV ($2-5 bucks via DMV site) -Save a copy of the smog data from state -Title show salvaged? -Get replacement CARB sticker from intake manufacturer - KN makes it easy, take a picture of the system, they mail you a sticker fast. -Cite show a CVC for wheel violation? Edit vid discrip adding the CVCs REMEMBER people, you do NOT have to submit to the roadside smog check, if directed by CHP, you stop, tell CHP no thanks, and you can take off. Helps to not have PC for a stop/tow.

I saw a guy design and 3D print his own OEM looking airbox that was compatible with his custom turbo setup to pass inspection in Australia.

Probably gonna get burned for this..but in my experience, if you buy a vehicle that is Federal Emissions only, then California can't do shit. I bought a 74 C10 in North Carolina, but first sold in West Virginia. Had a federal emissions decal. Brought it over to California. When I went to register it, they asked me for a smog certificate. Told the lady the truck is from 74 and doesn't need smog. Plus it's Federal. So yeah. She was pissed, but I was in the right. Theres always a loophole for these things.

2008 I was driving my eg hatch to north Georgia from southwest FL to do an engine swap.Long story short I met the coolest Georgia trooper ever.

without a CAT and full exhaust this car burns cleaner than most new cars. and plus some EG depending on year did not come with airbag in the steering wheel

in cali the polce can ask you to pop your hood and if you refuse to pop your hood then they jsut call a towtuck to take the car away then this has been going on all the way back in the 1990s. i had some firends this had happen back in the 1990s.

in arizona the cop woulda gave you a high five for mods, ive never seen or heard of anyone hear getting in trouble for mods in az and been doing it 20 years

People out here in Colorado drive around on temp tags that expired in 2019. We simply don’t care about the state of your vehicle out here (well, Denver does but the west slope doesn’t).

idk where in canada any of this is legal. written in law as little as modifying the exhaust exit diameter. or adding a simple exhaust is illegal. in newfoundland basically any modifying besides stock isnt allowed going by the book. only thing is that its rarely enforced. atleast outside of st johns

@123devinzz1 Alberta is truly the wildest the west can federally be.....I'm assuming.............The east coast is a bucket list trip for me so sad everywhere else is cheaper to fly than within Canada maybe when the kids move on

​@freedumbofspeech1977 believe it or not even alberta has most of the same laws. including widening of the exhaust outlet. but im actually in fortmac right now and you are correct. police NEVER hassel anybody over vehicle modifications. and this place is the lifted straight pipe diesel capital of canada ahaha. canada is now 3rd on the list of most expensive domestic flights in the world based on distance as an average. but even within canada flights to east coast. newfoundland especially are the highest in canada at times besides for some remote places in the territories. that makes newfoundland literally one of the most expensive places in world to fly to which is odd to think

If you get a chance ask "So when car manufactures state "airbag may save lives" does that mean it doesn't and it's not legal from the start?" Or the recalls that many manufacturer have because airbags kill and injure people?

Because there are a lot of job opportunities, very good companies, high salaries, lots of top talent to network with, good weather year round. Getting pulled over because you're driving a car in shambles isn't a concern for 99% of people.

2024 youngstas need realize exhaust , tint on windows especially aftermarket intake is asking for attention and state ref. Speaking from OG long in the game since the early 90s. I got the same treatment from all these WHITE COPS but got away with all the time because mine was clean no tint, no intake, no exhaust, yes hollowed cat , and cams which they couldn't see ofcourse , slammed as fuck tucked half the tire in EG milano red si stock exhaust but they just wanted to admire it hoping to see headers and intake but i rigged cold air under stock box. Youngstas today just never learn. Keep it clean and simpe before rolling street especially with updated tags 😅. Making import negligent but its acuallty rookie owners riding hot 😢. Still got car til this day riding oem plus yes i am California barred to avoid all the nonsense!!!!

Can’t remove the airbag in Cali, but if it did not have one (pre 90s) originally, you are fine. Also can a cop start taking pictures without consent? That seems off.
