There are many ways to get to where you want to be. I just took the more non-traditional route! Here's insight into how I got into dental school without applying traditionally.

    Thank you for sharing this video and your story! I was also in a similar situation too. My undergrad GPA was very low and I ended up doing a one-year biomedical sciences master's program. I worked as a dental assistant for the last few years and had to retake my DAT. As a reapplicant for dental schools, I have faced challenges in my journey. I am a Christian as well and there were times when I faced doubts in my faith. However, I continued to stay involved in the dental field as much as I could. I will soon be starting as a first-year dental student this upcoming August at Midwestern Arizona. To all those with goals of becoming a dentist, if this is your passion, keep persisting and you will get there! :)

    Excellent video, my name is Dr. Linda Thornton. I am 1975 alumni of NYU College of Dentistry. I am the first black female army trained board-certified Prosthodontist. Out of 180 students in my class, there were only three African Americans and one black female, ME. After graduating from NYU, I entered the Army, became board-certified in Prosthodontics, and rose to the rank of LtCol. and received my Masters' degree in Healthcare Administration at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. After retiring from the army, I became a Associate Professor at Temple University (Kornberg School of Dentistry). After retiring from Temple, I moved to Florida. Now I am teaching Prosthodontics at Lake Erie School of Dental Medicine. AND IT ALL STARTED AT NYU COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY. Congratulations on your acceptance to NYU. And Keep going.......... Good Luck in your future endeavors.

    Thank you for this video, I feel very encouraged 2 years later after you making this video. 5 mins before finding your video, I was journaling how I'm afraid that failing gen chem II this quarter might set me back and ultimately be the reason of not getting accepted into dental school. I'm so happy to find that you had a second chance with one of the schools that you originally applied to. Your story gives me so much hope!!! Also, I think you should be graduating soon, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

    Hey Krysten. So I enjoyed listening to what you were saying. I'm about to finish up undergrad and graduate in two months. Gonna take some time off and prepare for the DAT starting later in the fall and take the DAT at the end of yhe year, by December. My plan is to apply early next year June 2021. My plan B is to do a Masters if I dont get in the first time. I already have some Master's programs in mind. Those bridge type programs where they accept you and if you can maintain a certain criteria, your assured of an interview.

    Im kinda confused as to seeing other ppl going thru post bacc and masters and apply AGAIN but in ur case it guarantees you a spot after that post bacc program why isnt other ppl choosing this program if they r guaranteed a spot rather than going thru post bacc just to improve academic gpa to apply again

  • @DoctorKrysten

    @DoctorKrysten

    Жыл бұрын

    Most programs aren’t like the one I went through. They’re usually just supposed to help your gpa and prepare you academically for dental school, so when you apply again, you’ll be ready. There aren’t many programs like the one I went through. I hope that helps!

    @@roseanne9020 In order to apply to dental schools you have to have at least 90 college credit hours and all of your pre-reqs completed. Some schools have requirements for pre-reqs, such as they can't be completed at a 2 year college. A bachelors degree is usually about 121 credit hours. Biology and Chemistry degrees typically include all of the pre-reqs for dental school, so it's advised to get a bachelors in one of those areas. Dental schools are EXTREMELY competitive. It's possible to get in without an actual college degree, but you still have to take at least 3 years of college classes prior to applying.
