How I fixed an Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer

Update 3/29/202
Here is a link to another good vortex video: • Instant Vortex Plus No...
Very good safety tips.
As he suggests there may be something wrong with other components if the thermofuse is continually thrown. I suggest cleaning the surface of the thermofuse after each use so it can function properly and not be overheated by baked on grease. Also be sure to move the fryer away from the wall so it can circulate cooler air. Keep the vent clean, it needs to be able to circulate cooler air. Good luck to all and thanks for all the positive comments.
Be sure to unplug before working on your fryer.
I first check the thermofuse for continuity and found there was no continuity.
After removing the thermofuse, I tested it again with it in my hands and now it had continuity. That was very weird! I had tested it for continuity several times, because I could see it was going to be really hard to remove it from the air fryer. See below on hints to remove the thermofuse.
Once I found the thermofuse had continuity, I wondered if there was a way to see if the Air fryer’s display would come on without have to put everything back together. I put the bare minimum back together and sure enough, it did work. So I proceeded to put everything back together.
To remove the thermofuse, which is hard. You basically have to undo several wires and take out many screws to get the top off. Once the top is off, you still have to remove the heating element, the fan and the inside top plate.
Once the inside top plate is removed you can see the two screws holding the thermofuse on.
1st Hint: The nut holding the fan on is a left handed nut. To remove it you have to turn it clockwise instead of counter clockwise.
2nd Hint: The other electrical connections, like the small red and black wire to the circuit board, have a release button, so they will not come off of the post they are connected to unless you push in the release button. Brown and black wires to door switch have a release button.
The other wire with the white thermo covering goes to a device called a thermistor. It is labeled JT-100K. Nothing was wrong with my thermistor.
I think it is important after each use to clean the inside of the fryer so you do not bake the grease splatter onto the inside plates.
I really think it is important to at least wipe off the Thermofuse and the thermistor so they can function properly.
Good luck.

Dude! I was about to throw away my baby. Not only did you save me $200 that I was about to spend on a replacement but we saved a member of our family from being put down. Fixed in 10 minutes! Bravo! Thank you!

Wow, the only step I had to do was pop the top off, disconnect the front screen and stick a long screwdriver down to the button and wiggle it! I connected the front screen connector back up and plugged it in and it turned back on! You are wonderful!!! I’m a happy camper! Thank you so…so…much!!!

I can't thank you enough for posting this!! Mine quit yesterday just as I was taking something out. Everything went black so I unplugged it, reset my GFI, let it cool, etc. Nothing worked. Did a search (during my insomnia) and found your video. pushed the button-down put it back together enough to try it and BAM! It worked. Thank you! You rock! Ours stopped working Friday night, and I went looking for a fix before I forked over more money before Black Friday deals ended! Played this for husband and he fixed ours in less than 5 minutes! Liked and subscribed to help your numbers! Thanks again.

That was to easy, AWESOME! I was about to disposed of the unit & purchase a new one. I don't know why the manufacture buried the reset within the unit. Definitely a design flaw. Thank you!!!

This was right on. We have had our unit 9 months and it died in the middle of cooking. I pressed that little button, even though it barely depressed and boom... we have life. TY good Video. We will see if it keeps tripping.

Thanks for the DIY fix. In our case it was not the thermal switch, but the micro switch at the front. The one that triggers the screen and open door. The switch was malfunctioning and by using a small screwdriver, bending the flip switch leg inside the micro switch a bit, fixed the switch. Now we're cooking again. Your vid helped me figure out how to open it up. Thank you so much!

What an excellent video! You are an effective communicator, and your delivery is easy to understand. I am saving this video for when I face the death of my IP Vortex. From the Facebook page, it sounds like this can happen anytime after two years, so I may experience it soon.

Thank you for posting, we were given this from a friend leaving town, it worked for a few minutes and then shut off and didn't turn back on. So I followed your instructions and reset the thermal fuse, and now it works again, thank you again for your time. Much appreciated.

I purchased a second air fryer which arrived yesterday. After viewing your video, I am not able to return the second air fryer. BRAVO! It took me all of 15 -20 minutes tops.

Thank you so much! I was so worried I was going to have to purchase another air-fryer haven't even had this one a full year yet. My kids use this thing daily. Had it fixed in about 5 minutes. Once I heard the click after pushing the button on the fuse, I knew that was the problem.
