Luiza Marques same! Random question though. My hair is super thick, long and full of dense curls. Do you think a brush out would work on my hair? Like I've seen vintage styles for long hair but I'm hesitant to try because my hair has always been very...temperamental.😂

Sarah Riddle you said you had curly hair, do you mean a brush out on your natural curls or curling your hair like in this video? If you want to do a brush out with your natural curls, I would suggest making sure your hair is well moisturized before brushing. If it’s dry and frizzy, let’s just say it’s not going to turn out well 😂 If you mean curling your hair like in the video and then brushing it out, I do think it could work. I also have long and curly hair (although it’s kinda thin) and I do sometimes curl my hair with Velcro rollers, although I’ve never actually tried a true vintage brush out. I think you should just do it! You will never know until you try! You probably already tried it though, since this reply is so late haha 😂

I'm a hairdresser who loves vintage hair, and I have 2 tips for you. Tip 1--you need a brush with thicker bristles, it really helps to get the hair to mesh. Tip 2--when you get it to the stage where it's been brushed out a lot, switch to a comb. Use wide bristles to get the tangles out and the fine bristles to form the wave pattern. Good luck! ☺

My hair always sounds like that if I try to brush it. I honestly can't (or at least shouldn't) brush my hair when it's dry because it's SO frizzy, curly, poofy and insane. Pretty waves, not even close. Ringlet curls, nope. It's just a curly, frizzy, fluffy as hell nightmare. So I have to brush it in the shower SOAKED in conditioner. Also, the type of brush she's using is part of why it's doing that to her. She needs to get the kind that doesn't flex/push in like that, if you know what I mean. Those ones you can push the bristles in with your hand, are terrible, especially on curly hair. They have too much give and instead of brushing out the tangles, they just torture your head lol

Curly-haired girl here, and I was cringing too. Don't brush curls at all if you can help it -- use a wide-toothed comb. Also, your hair is so thick, you are probably NEVER going to be able to brush all the tangles out, especially after curling. If you're going to go curly, embrace it and work with it. Don't fight it.

Hi there! Great tutorial- just making notes for myself. It starts at 2:58 with sectioning. Once you see the first curler she goes into more detail at 6:18. Once you've know where she's going skip to 8:03, 10:38, and then 11:02. At this point curlers are done. If you sleep in it, wrap your head so they don't come loose. Unwrapping tip at 12:48. Once the curlers are out, you can brush out the curls. Tips for brushing out at 14:27.

A "better" brush, meaning the right brush, can make such a huge difference in the brush-out! For brushing out a vintage wet set I love my Denman grooming brush with both nylon and boar bristles (even though I hate that it isn't cruelty free, but I can't live without it!😳) And it smoothes while detangling very gently. It makes the brush-out much easier and faster for me. It's like a vintage boar brush with much more detangling, penetrating power, and it's not too, too expensive. 😄

@@josielife4286 Oh heavens no. I have extremely thick hair, plus it's wavy, and I need to start at the bottom even on repeat passes, or I'll create terrible tangles that are a nightmare to get out.

Thanks for the vid. I had literally just roller set my hair before I watched it. Have it up in a hairnet and will scarf it to go to bed. Loved watching it thanks. I think you pick up a tip from everyone you watch, but I love that you show good and bad and not perfect all the way through. Much more inspiring not to give up at home. Loved what you did with the front section brushing up and pinning. Might have to have a go and see if my hair likes it. Thanks again. :)

as beautiful as hair like this is, I'm thankful mine is very short because I really don't have the patience to maintain it XD you look so beautiful, though! and I can't explain it, but like, your facial structure is also vintage, you know? some people have a very contemporary look to them, but I could picture you in the background of an actual photo from the 40's out of curiosity, how long does it take to style the hair?

It fascinates me as a naturally curly-haired woman, to see someone brush through curls! I would never brush my hair while it was dry. It just makes a huge, fluffy mess. Yet somehow, when people with straight hair do curls, they brush it and it looks great. Go figure!

I tried this last night. Here's what I learned. If you're doing a wet set: be sure it's dry before taking out. If you're doing a heat set: be sure it's cool before taking out. Once you get it brushed out and arranged, stop! Also, don't touch it through the day. That is hard for me. Also, the flatness on top is the complete opposite of the way I usually style. Takes getting used to! Overall I do like it. My hair looks about 2 inches shorter due to the curliness. Thanks Karolina!

A friend recommended your video and I really enjoyed watching it! I tried your way of setting and brushing my hair and really like it. I do however agree with everyone saying you should try a different brush. I use one that has both pins and bristles and I was able to truely brush out my thick in hair in a fraction of the time it took you. Your brush also seems really small with a short handle. Using a bigger brush with longer handle will probably help you a lot since you have more leverage! (The leverage from physics that is).

I actually learned a lot. Finally someone with as much hair as I have. Really happy that you have to put so many sections cause when I watch other hair videos they are much quicker done. Also the most valuable part is the brushing, though it's annoying but shows the magic of what the curled hair can do. The result was worth it, I would say. How long does it hold. Three days ore more? Have you meanwhile changed the brush and which one would you recommend? The comments below about brushes confused me. In particular with thick hair not all recommendations fit. I would so much love a neighbor or a friend coming over and we could do the hair on each other. More fun and less boring. Nobody does that nowadays. Or do they?
