Really awesome demo and explanation of all the features! Thanks for taking the time to put together such a detailed review. I sprung for the Simplifier DLX, but I am experiencing a bit of shopper's remorse. I play direct into XLR to the mixer at church so the XLR out and effects loop were a big draw. I just don't get the tone and dynamics that I was hoping for and what I hear in the UAFX Dream 65. Can you do a comparison between the two? I'm on the fence about listing the Simplifier DLX on Reverb and going for the Dream 65.

I do find humbuckers respond quite differently, usually takes more tweaking probably because of the usual higher output and compression of humbuckers compared to single coils. So there is something to that observation you shared.

Hi! Nice video! I got a Dream65. I want to know if I can skip the Canvas Stereo (Line Isolator mode) and connect it directly to my interface as 'Line Level Input'. I read the Dream65 output is 500 Ohms, so it should go as 'Line Input' as far as I understood. I watched another video and they also connected it using XLR to a Apollo Twin. Why not use a TRS - TRS into the Apollo? Thanks for the video, it was really helpful!

Hey thanks for watching! The dream does not have balanced outputs from what I read meaning if you run a long connection from a stage to a sound board you would need a DI or Line isolator for the best results because this will convert the signal to balanced so that it can do long cables runs without interference or loss of audio quality. If you are going straight from the dream to your recording interface you can just use normal TS cables without needing a DI or line isolator because the distance is so short you wouldn’t notice any audio issues or interference. Hope that helps!

These videos are so much more helpful than many of the others I’ve seen. I was hoping you could tell me whether or not either the ruby or the dream actually exhibit any issues with pedals? I have quite a large board and I intend to run everything into the front end of one of the two pedals. So far I think I like the sound of The Ruby better, but I’m worried it’ll do something weird with pedals, as people seem to suspect that it will, and there aren’t many videos demonstrating it with pedals. I figure with the output volume being separate from the gain, I wouldn’t need to worry about headroom. If your experience is different please say so. I usually play an orange amp, so I figure British would be more in that ball park than American. Please let me know your thoughts if you could spare the time. Thanks for making these well thought out videos.

Hey man thanks for watching! I have used the iridium, Kemper, hx stuff, and the axe fx 3. This is on the same level as axe fx iii. The modeling is insane on these pedals they respond just as a real amp would with pedals. The biggest thing that impressed me is you can even use a boost pedal and it doesn’t digitally clip like I have experienced with other modelers. Yes if your a British guy I would go with the ruby. Just know you don’t need to turn the gain very high on it and that will give you plenty of headroom to push with your pedals.

Hey there! The only reason I run the canvas is so my board is xlr friendly. So when I play at a gig I can just plug right into 2 xlr cables that will send a balanced signal to the sound board since it will usually be a long run it will keep my signal from degrading since it's a balanced signal. You could use a DI in that instance as well but the canvas also won't drop decibels like a DI so it sends a full line level signal which just lets me be louder and have a lower noise floor. If you're in a bedroom or studio it's not necessary at all if it's within say 15 feet or so. I just use it in the video because that's just how I'm used to setting it up.

@@lanceholland I think regardless you would want an line isolator or atleast a DI box to be safe from phantom power. Also, there is a difference between a line isolator and a DI Box. You won't lose your signal (your volume would remain loud) with a line isolator like the canvas or DISO+ and it'll give an excellent signal to FOH.

Hey great question, you do not. You can just use a patch cable to go out of the dream and into your interface. The only reason you would want something like the canvas is for long cable runs like going from a stage to a sound board across the room, this prevents cable noise and keeps a strong signal with long cable runs since it lets you use balanced XLR cables.

Hey there, this is a broad topic but general rule of thumb is if you can get the source to be the level you are wanting to record that is better than turning up the preamp of the device you are recording into. So I would start with turning the volt preamp down as low as it lets you go. Then adjust the dream 65 volume to the level at what your are wanting to record at. At that point if you need more slowly increase the preamp level until you hit the desired volume. I like to record right around where my sound it hitting hitting the yellow on the meters, usually around -9

Hey man, check out my pedalboard video, that one goes through my entire signal chain. The same chain I used in this video.

These are really nice sounding pedals but they are overpriced by quite a bit. @ $320 each by the time you get all the sounds you might need your in the FM9 territory and you would still need to buy effects. Great if your just going for one sound and a few effects.

Sure! That’s fair I think it depends on whether the buyer wants to use real pedals or an all in one like the fm9. For someone that really does not like modeling and doesn’t want to learn it, I think it’s a great product for ease of use if they had to get something and want top quality. Thanks for watching!

@@lightfootfx I personally prefer these pedals to the “all in one“ modelers. I was originally going to get a neural quad cortex - which is FANTASTIC - but ended up choosing these and I’m glad I did. Both are great, but I just wanted to go this route…which is a bit more focused with less amp choices, but still plenty of choices to dial-in almost any sound I could ever want. And they work so great with the rest of my pedal board.
