HOW I DEAL WITH THE HOLIDAY SEASON WHEN I'M IN A WHEELCHAIR AND I HAVE CANCER

Travels In My Chair-Vlog 100-Tis the season. Joyful, stressful and chaotic. If you have poor health, you're older, or have mobility issues, just the thought of shopping can leave you flat. I'll explain how I deal with the holiday season and how lucky I am to have people to help me in my life.

Hi Denise I can't believe I'm celebrating this holiday season. Back in January when I found out that I have cancer 😮😮. I was so scared and cried. It's hard to fathom how far I've come Since April 😊😊. I'm eternally grateful for all that's been done through our this year. I'm very thankful to be here and it's surreal to imagine. Denise, I wish you all the best for this Holiday season with family and friends 🙏❤️🙏❤️...

Thanks Barb. Every day when we wake up is a good day. I am thankful, as you are, to still be here, and able to enjoy time with those I love.

Hey Denise… great to see you again! I am totally relating to you about go anywhere and shopping. I can get get sick sitting still on the couch. Much less all that looking around. If my kids want something, they better sound off! Otherwise, we will just pass sentiments and gather on Christmas Eve with my side of the family like we have for years. My ma is 92…. I am not missing IT or any other special event with her name on it. P.S. my 3rd granddaughter is coming today.😇🥰🙏👼

Thank you Tammy. They are my relaxation exercises. Keeps my mind from going "what if what if" Only problem now is the letters. I used to type out a three page family news letter and a family picture that I included with each card. This year I'm hand writing a short note instead and boy, does the wrist take a beating!

I have completely switched to buying almost everything on the internet. Life is so much simpler when I can shop from my couch! Our family is at an age where we really don't do presents very much anymore, but I still like to get a little something for everyone. This coming week is our Thanksgiving in the U.S. so we have a feast in our future. It doesn't look like we will have any company so I ordered a Thanksgiving dinner with all the sides from the HoneyBaked Ham store. (Not sure if you have them in Canada.) Our neighbors are originally from Puerto Rico and are making Flan for dessert--and they said they will make one for us too. I'm sure that will be the highlight of our dinner. We are looking forward to the day after Thanksgiving which we will spend with our daughter. Sometime next weekend I'll put up our Christmas tree and maybe even put lights outside on the shrubs (assuming I can find the lights). Your Christmas cards are amazing, Denise! Anyone would be thrilled to receive one! Love to Roxie from Boo Radley. Roxie looks like she could be Boo's big sister.

I forget your Thanksgiving is in November. Ours is in October. Next weekend is wreath making day and we start off by semi-butchering any available greens we can find in our yards. It is also the time to start decorating. The warmth of Christmas colors and twinkle lights is so calming and lovely, I hate to take everything down in January. Thanks about the cards-my little contribution. They are very relaxing to paint and I manage 2 a day. Must speed up! Roxie had her hair cut yesterday and she is not behaving at the groomers anymore. Makes me sad. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Haha ... semi-butchering any available greens. Made me laugh. I could have joined in the wreath-making if we still lived in Michigan, but down here the wreaths would have to be made from palm fronds. So Roxie is being sassy, huh? Boo Radley goes to the groomer every two weeks--either for a bath or for a mini-groom. He went on Friday and the groomer reported that he is getting better BUT he still doesn't like having anything around his head trimmed. Which is too bad for him because every time we go I ask the groomer to be sure and trim his ears. Before she started trimming them, they were so heavy, they flopped completely over. Now they stand up like they are supposed to and it looks so much nicer. Have a great week, Denise.

Travels in my Chair's latest vlog touches upon a deeply personal topic - how to navigate the holiday season while managing life in a wheelchair and battling cancer. With honesty and vulnerability, they share insights into the mix of emotions that come with this time of year: joy, stress, and chaos. Despite the challenges, they highlight the importance of gratitude for the support system around them and offer valuable perspectives on coping mechanisms. It's a powerful reminder of resilience and the strength found in community during difficult times. Sending love and support their way as they continue their journey. 💖🎗 #holidayseason #cancerawareness #communitysupport

Thanks so much for watching and writing. You are sending a wonderful message too, to all of us who have to be brave, especially during the holidays, when we are expected to be moms, wives, grandma's, friends and partners when sometimes it would be easier to cover up under the duvet and watch cheesy Christmas shows. Ignore the world? Ha ha ha. Can never happen cause my little dog will come and cry in my ear, like she is doing right now. What's goin' down, mom, why aren't you playing ball? Then I laugh and my husband laughs and Roxie figures she's done her job for the day. She's got us laughing and moving. What a dog to be able to do all that! Have a truly delightful 2024. You deserve it.
