I called some community senior centers in town and asked if they had ladies that actively crocheted. I found six centers that had a crochet group that got together twice a week. They made blankets and baby beanies and donated them to hospitals. Well I gave each of them one huge box of beautiful yarn. They were thrill to receive so much yarn.

Some churches will take donated yarn, like the church I attend. They have a Prayer Shawl Ministry and members get together and knit or crochet prayer shawls and blankets for church members who are ill, or who are moving away.

My teenage daughter has learned to crochet and was thrilled when she found out that one of her friends did as well. Her friend doesn’t have a or of money for yarn so I get to spoil her a bit. I go through my yarn periodically and make sure her friend gets at least a large paper bag full of it. Sometimes she gets a couple of bags. I get so much joy in sharing all that yarn with someone so young, that loves to crochet as much as I do.

Last year I decided enough consumerism with craft supplies. From now on I will only buy items for a specific project AFTER going into my craft room and making sure I don't already have something that will work. It's incredibly freeing!! I no longer feel like I have to jump on the buy this now bandwagon.

I work at an Aged Care Facility. And I love to crochet. And I needed to destash, and use up scrappy leftovers. The perfect solution? Crochet a bunch (and I mean a bunch) of lap rugs for the residents. I probably made about 30, maybe more. I didn't count. But it gave me the opportunity to try out different stitches and granny squares. Had a blast, did something I loved to do in my spare time, and reduced my stash considerably.

Yarn- the teens love it too. Please consider destashing by donating to your local school. I have a knit and crochet club at my school. I was paying for all of the yarn and tools. One day my local yarn shop gave me a bunch of yarn and hooks. It really helped me grow my club and give more kids access to the fiber arts.

My sister is making what she calls a “chaos cover” for her beanbag chair and I destashed some yarn in donation to that cause as a birthday gift per her request. Her only request was that it all be weight 4 and no crazy textures, and that’s the vast majority of what I work with, so she got a nice big bag of yarn that had been wasting away in my stash without a plan for a long while, some of which I’d been given as part of a friend’s destashing

Also, everything you say makes me more and more pumped to support your channel, like specifying that you keep track of which skeins you're comfortable getting money back for when de-stashing, and which ones you'll pass to money along to others instead!

when I moved house last year I just could not mentally get my head around destashing my yarn (and so forth) one of my sister n laws told me that I would need to live to a 103 to use it all, and I responded "that I plan to"..so it all got moved, into storage..now as I try to move it out of storage and to my home my sister is helping me to finally sort into what to donate, what to keep for students because I teach crochet classes for beginners and I like to supply them with a ball of yarn & hook to start them on their journey..besides, it helps to clear out my stash, chuckle..and to what I want to keep for projects..it's nice to know that I am not the only one who has to do it from time to time..

I was getting stressed just watching you de-stash. I am in the process of downsizing in anticipation to moving to a smaller home in the next few years. At first I was depressed over selling a lot of my collectibles but as they sold I felt better knowing they were going to a home where they'd be displayed and not packed away in my basement. I have not gotten to the yarn yet because I decided to make scrap blankets with much of it. BUT I am sure there will come a time in the near future that I will have to part with a lot of my stash. Thanks for the video. Love your puppy!

Thank you for your wonderful ideas, gentle nudges and inspiration to destash. I have been "shopping my own stash" to work it down but, it has been taking little while. I started with my smallest collection - lone 50g skeins of sock yarn. Before I started my journey into sock knitting, I had picked up the yarn to knit pairs of fingerless mitts. So, slowly and steadily, I'm clearing up space on my shelves. 😊 ***Side note*** When I hear the word "destash" I always think of Hervé Villechaize's character, "Tattoo" in the original Fantasy Island open. On my island, he's welcoming me to my favorite fantasy lys "THE Stash." There, the yarn I want is always in stock - in the quantities I need and any color I can imagine. Oh! And, did I mention my fantasy pocketbook allows me to purchase anything in the shop AND I can tote it ALL home in 1 manageable bag? LOL! It's so fun to dream! Lol! 🤟 ✌️💜🧶

This was great! I do a couple of things. First, I am doing a yarn fast for 2024. I will buy the occasional skein to finish a project, use a Michael's voucher, or pick up something I know I'll actually use at a thrift store, but so far, I'm averaging just under $4 a month. I'm doing a spreadsheet of yarn in my stash so I will eventually know what I actually have, and I'm trying to go in once a week and find a project to add to my "to do" list from things I have on hand. I'm also committed to having a scrap project going at all times, often a blanket, and some of those I'll donate to a mission in town. I have been thinking I need to do the same with hats, so some of the bigger leftover skeins can go there. I also always have a dishcloth, scrubbie, or potholder going, and that is where my random 100% cotton goes. Some of those end up in my drawer, most go to the mission. And then our library system pairs with a local store, Who Gives a Scrap, so once a month I take random craft destash stuff, and I bring it there, and I can come home with new to me stuff. Or not. In April, I brought in 23 pounds of stuff, and left with 4.

I recently brought 12+ garbage bags full of yarn to the local knitters guild I belong to. I felt better donating it to fellow knitters that I know would appreciate it. The leftovers were donated to local charities.

Oh my, all those wonderful bags!! It would hurt to destash those, but obviously, necessary. After all, one must make room for... more bags. I need to do this... well, I need to destash yarn and fabric too. You have inspired me.

My grandma and I both do a lot of crafting together. I was already working on de-stashing by making scrap projects, animals, bags, granny squares and so on. And then she gave me a whole garbage bag full of yarn she didn’t want 😅 safe to say I have a lot of projects to work on lol

I would guess about 46 bags. Kudos to you for finding the courage to destash. I purge some yarn each year to a local yarn store that does a rummage sale. I have also put together projects (some started) in bags with a pattern to sell. I donate what I don’t sell.

Thanks so much for doing this video! This helps me not feel so daunted by my stash! The Excel spreadsheet is awesome and very helpful! I love the pattern that your mom made! That is on my list to make! I didn't realize she designed it until I watched this video. Who is the cute black kitten? I love how you let us watch you set up and go through what you had to to make this happen! You are an inspiration in more than just crocheting!

I actually just bought your book for Mothers Day ❤❤ I am so excited to start my first project from it. I also hope and can’t wait until you release your hook set!! If there is a presignup or preorder option, when you get that far, I would love to be on the list! I love watching your videos, they are so great.

It took a flood for me to destash, both yarn and handmade items! I also got a chance to go through my clothes and give a bunch of stuff to my sister because I had a LOT that I'd gotten as a teenager that just didn't fit me anymore. Now I need to update my wardrobe... 😆
