HOW I CLEAN MY COOKWARE | New Cast Iron Skillet, Stainless Steel, Dutch Oven | Holiday Ready! ❤

Cleaning and caring for my cookware is something I take alot of pride in. I believe that if you want to cook with pots and pans, then you should clean your pots and pans. Cooking is something I love to do, and I do it daily, but sometimes just a regular dishwashing routine is not enough to keep grease and stains from building up into stubborn stains that can sometimes be so hard to remove. And nothing can take the joy out of cooking faster than a grimy stained pot or skillet. I have used this method of cleaning my pots and pans for years and find that it works great for me. I'm sharing this method of cleaning with you, and if you decide to use it it might work for you too.
DISCLAIMER
□ 1. Please read directions first when using Bar Keepers Friend and follow directions.
2. Please use CAUTION when using bleach and follow directions.
3. keep children and pets away from bleach and Bar Keepers Friend
4. please use CAUTION when cleaning hot pots and pans
5. please keep children away from hot stove.
6.You decide whether you want to use Bar Keepers friend or not. (wear protective gloves)
7. Always wash pots and pans well with dishwashing liquid after using bar Keepers friend.
8. Using bleach cleans well for me, but don't use it if you don't want to or if you unsure, the decision is yours.
DO NOT EAT OR SERVE THIS DISH TO ANYONE WHO IS OR MIGHT BE ALLERGIC TO ANY INGREDIENT IN THIS DISH.
Use caution when using your electric stove or other, the choice is yours if you want to follow this method of seasoning, try another method if unsure.

I have cooked for over 70 years and I have cleaned my equipment the same way you are teaching. My equipment is very old but looks really good because I properly care for it the way you do. My appliances are older also, especially my stove but everyone always thinks it’s much newer because I cared for it properly. And I cooked a lot.

That there are still folks left in the world that even give-a-darn about keeping their own cooking equipment clean and functional and used with care, is a testament to the genuineness Rachel brings with each of these videos. And, she will end up saving you money, from thinking you need to buy other items, since the stuff you own will look so good! Thanks Rachel.

My late husband was a cook and sous chef and he always cooked w cast iron pots, seasoning them exactly like this! But I like the idea of using the microfiber cloth to wipe off the oil - much better than terry towels or paper towels that leave lint behind. He also liked to use Bar Keeper's Friend on our stainless pots and pans. Thank you so much for sharing with everyone, Rachel!

I did not know about bleaching my ceramic Dutch oven. Thanks for demonstrating that. I always season my cast iron each time I wash them. I’m like you though, once in a while I will use a little Dawn dish liquid. Other times it’s just very hot water, scrape the bottom and sides with a plastic scraper, rinse, dry & season once with oil. Your neighbor is very fortunate to get a shiny skillet AND a new skillet.

Growing up mom had a whole set of copper things on display. I was always assigned to clean them with Brasso. Not always thrilled cause copper does turn color after a while....I wish I knew of your olive oil final touch. But certainly your wise cast iron advice is going to be followed religiously. Great info. I keep lots of Barkeeper's Friend stocked up. I grew up using SOS pads on my stainless but those things can't hold a candle to that little gold can. I just got some new Lodge cast iron pieces a few months ago. I actually sanded the inside before seasoning them. It's always exciting getting new cookware but those pans that have been seasoned with love for years are the best. Women like you are as close to that Proverbs 31 model as we will see this side of heaven. You are a precious soul.

So many people today do not have that simpatico with the loving art of food preparation and the joy and satisfaction you receive in watching someone close to you enjoy the fruits of your labor. There is nothing sweeter than to have friends and family gather around your table and enjoy what they are eating along with all the conversation that happens at the table. It is a way we bond and find joy in each other. I especially appreciate your thoughts about Rachel. She is a delight and a font of knowledge which she is so generous to share with us. This is the my first time watching one of your videos and I’ve enjoyed every minute! I have used Barkeeper’s Friend for many years. I have cleaned my enamel pots with scouring cleansers that contain bleach but I won’t do that anymore. I’ll just use the bleach itself and see how they turn out. My oldest cast iron skillet is 57 years old and almost looks like new. I also use Dawn and put them on the stove to dry. When I season a new cast iron pot, I usually put it in the oven for an hour to cure. I do like your method of cleaning your pot and pans. I learned a little something here and I will be watching whichever videos of yours I can find from now on. Thank you for sharing! 😊

Thank you so much for this great tutorial! My parents always enjoyed cooking with one when I was growing up. I bought a cast iron frying pan a few months ago but I really had no idea how to season or cook with it. I washed it and then rubbed it with oil to season it, but I did not know to heat it and let it cool, and repeat that a few times. My husband took one look at my greasy frypan and then threw it in the basement, telling me he would never use it. Now I can go retrieve it and show him that I know what I am doing now, ha ha. I can't wait to use it and prove to him it is an excellent frying pan.

Thank you, Rachael. What a great video. The bleach/water cleaning method seems to work really well on enameled cast iron. I've found using OxiClean (about one scoop) added to just enough water to cover the stained areas of the pot or pan, then place it on the stovetop, works equally-well. Bring to a controlled boil, as the solution foams and bubbles. Maintain the boil for about 1 to 2 minutes then turn off the heat and cover the pot. Allow it to cool for about 25 - 40 minutes. Bring to the sink; rinse out the pot and use a light scrubbing (if necessary) to remove any remaining stains. It should be spotless.
