I once saw a headcanon where Spencer had originally been purchased and restored by Alan Pegler, who at first had big plans for him, but eventually sold him off to the Duke and Duchess instead in order to free up time and money for 4472 _Flying Scotsman._ This left Spencer with a deep resentment towards the A1/A3, which he extended to that engine’s older brother when they first met.

I love this canon for Spencer, since it balances giving him more to do while also subtly playing down his importance so his ego still isn't justified. And the prospect of seeing these models do an episode adaptation is something I'd love to see, even if it takes ages to get there

love the idea of Spencer being a big poser, not being one of the original silver A4s, and putting on his high and mighty, self important persona as a mask for it. Your head canons are always very interesting.

Well.. he was still a very fast engine and probably pulled lots of express trains. And he’s now owned by a duke so I think all those factors would still give an engine as rude as Spencer a high opinion of himself.

I've always found your head canon for Spencer very interesting. It does sound like something Awdry would write.

Since we know where his original video collection left off, and where it can go from here, let us look forward to that day. I wonder what kind of continuity the unlucky tug will string together with railway series and TV series episodes with tug’s trains. Either way, he has already given us enough clues to what his head cannons and continuity would be with the videos yet to be revived. A great example would be the station pilots, and dockyard engines that went Thomas, Percy, Duck, Arthur, and finally Salty.

I love rewatching these videos, Tug's Trains is my favorite series😊

As before, I love that spencer is an 'homage silver jubilee' A4 rather tha nthe real thing. Likewise love the background you gave him. Oh sure he's the family's personal train but he does rail enthusiest tours. It plays into him showing off. All the crowds of adoring people come to see HIM in all his splendor.

I am still very eagerly awaiting your take on the Gordon and Spencer episode. Just seeing your models run around in general will be fun!

The Spencer headcanon… Imagine if Chris Awdry (or Wilbert) wrote a book called ‘Gordon and the Silver Engine’…

I can see it and I am utterly in love with it because Spencer absolutely FEELS like an Awdry character. As does Hiro (with some modification to his backstory. Say, japan bringing him to Sodor as a demonstration of their prowess and engineering as a 'gift'.... and then the war happened and any spares he might have had were sent off to be smelted down. Hiro himself breaking down at some point and effectivly abandoned because there was no good way to haul him out at the time and at some point he was simply forgotten until one cheeky little blue engine got switched to an abandoned track.)

@@singletona082 Believe it or not, Korean National Railways commissioned two D51s in standard gauge. Or Mika7 in that particular condition. Like, 4ft 8 1/2 inches exactly. This just blows my mind. My headcanon is that Hiro is one of these engines. Don’t know why he would be on Sodor, but the fact that Hiro can exist in standard gauge is astounding.

@@David_Mattox My headcannon involves him being one of those engines as well. It involves him being withdrawn in 1965 and was disassembled/his parts were spread out to avoid scrap. He was eventually put back together and put into service on the NWR in the early 1970s to help on the Main Line (since Donald/Douglas and the Fat Controller were in a railtour during that time which eventually resulted in the rediscovery of Bloomer).

This AU makes it even better as bittern was actually repainted into the silver link livery for quite a few years

Been thinking about which A4 Spencer used to be. It feels appropriate that his original name would have been a bird as it would have been odd for the Duke to buy one of the A4s named after people or commonwealth nations only to rename him again. I also didn't think the name should be to fancy (none of the Golden's) and it shouldn't have been one of the preserved or nearly preserved ones (Bittern or Kingfisher). In the end the one I decided upon was 60027 Merlin as it fits the boxes and was also one of the later ones withdrawn so the Duke would have had time to raise money to buy him.

Seagal could work, that would have been oddly prophetic of the livery he'd end up having, and also be pretty funny such a proud and snobby engine would've originally been named after what most consider an annoying pest

Just came to the realization Spencer wasn't shown after S21 for the most part which prevent him from being flanderized which is ironic considering he first appeared in the end of the original series and continue to appear during the Hit Era, CGI till S21.

If only they had the same restraint when it came to Diesel. I get that the show needs an antagonist, but it sucks that they never followed up on his development from “Springtime for Diesel” and “The Big Freeze”.

I agree with many of the other commenters; it's really easy to imagine Spencer's boasting and Gordon's attempts to put him in his place leading to pretty big arguments. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up getting to the point when Thomas and Gordon call on their alliance and form a plan to play a prank on Spencer to teach him a lesson and get him to back down (e.g., place him in a position where he embarrasses himself). In my opinion, that would make a great episode because it would mean that Thomas and Gordon still remember the alliance they formed, with the audience seeing just how much Spencer gets on everyone's nerves.

There was an A4 named Quicksilver? I guess Sir Nigel Gresley was a Marvel fan
