This is my first handmade electric guitar,
it took me around 4-5 monthes to finish it.
The woods I used are Basswood for the body and Maple for the neck.
The fretboard is Rosewood.
Finish has been done with Tru-Oil.
Finish of the body was accomplished with some water based filler and color.
I used templates from here:
potvinguitars.com/
and plans from here:

Amazing video, music is great and i love the sounds from the time lapsed footage.
This is a great vid showing the steps on how you made you axe. I find it funny how so many people dislike this, I mean people showing things like these regardless of the process is still comendable for the effort and time. Kudos to you Man!

@@vsmicer I think it has some soul, but I totally agree that it looks like a disaster at first glance. I don't really know how to to do a proper finish that is not with oil. This is something yet to learn. But when I look at the guitar, it kind of looks special, because it's not 100% ideal .
Kudos tho for not buying a pre-carved neck. Takes guts to carve a neck
@74dartman13

It does take guts. I'm building my first body from scratch now, with a bought neck. Next build I hope to have the courage to go all the way, with everything scratch built! Just working my way into it. Getting the truss rod right seems the hardest to me. I built a few cigar box necks so I got the carving part down. I'll see how it goes on the next build. If it turns out as nice as his, I'll be thrilled!👍😎🎸🎶

tecnical arj7n arjun That paint job is a classic to rock. That paint job was used by Van Halen's lead guitarist, Eddie Van Halen. That paint job is spot on, and the tape pattern is spot on. It's like he revived this masterpiece and turned it into modern art.

The imperfections in the paint remind me of traditional Japanese raku ware, in which imperfections arising during the final glaze/firing process are highly desirable (“raku” translates as 'happiness in the accident'.) Machines make perfection, artists make art. I’d take your paint job over a flawless glossy lacquer any day. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raku_ware

:) I can't think of a way to convince you otherwise, but can only say, that though you see in the video a complete build, the path was not so easy. I ruined 4 necks before I succeeded to make a decent one. The body is easier to make, but it also has it's flaws. Anyway, thanks for watching :)

I did a lot of reading and prep work before I started :) I started to play with wood about 2 years ago, started from woodturning bowls and such...and at some point decided it's time to make a guitar , it fascinates me, because it's a journey, you can be creative a long the way while building it, and when it's built you can continue to be creative and play some music with it....

The body + pickguard = when you want to show your love for both Eddie Van Halen and cowboys, apparently? And the neck inlays show some love for classic video games, I guess. I don't understand those choices, either. All that effort into building from scratch, I would be sure to do something amazing for a finish to really show off the wood.

as someone who builds custom guitars with ranging intricacies in the paint jobs, the easiest way to do any paint job for a guitar is mask, paint with aerosol (unless stylistic choice is involved), sand with the lightest grit sand paper you got. Don't rush it and do it very evenly. Then finally add a clear coat and you're good to go for most guitars. Still though, great fucking job on the construction of the build itself.
This is something i always wanted to do. Good job
:O i love those inlays that makes me want to build my own guitar even more now

Kind of :) Didn't have any experience with paint before, and as it appears it's not trivial, along the way I've decided to leave it this way, for kind of a "vintage" look. But you're right.

It was looking really nice until that paint job. I’m not a big fan of the fret inlays either.
You did such an amazing job. You are a very skilled in woodworking. Only negative, you ruined that beautiful job with a bad finish job on the body. Of course if that's what you were going for then my mistake.
@yojik_creates_stuff
7 жыл бұрын
You're quite right....the truth is , when I painted and saw that it's not exactly what I wanted, I've considered redoing, or maybe somehow consider this "bad" thing as a "good" thing and continue the building. At that stage I was already very eager to finish the guitar. So I convinced my self that it looks vintage and that it's cool and in the next time I'll do better! Thank you for the comment!
@PrivilegedWhiteMan
6 жыл бұрын
I don't personally think it's bad, it has an aged look and that's what makes people think he screwed it up. I personally think it doesnt fit the guitar itself. I think it deserved a more fancy finish too.

You want to know what is amazing about this build? This kid already had every modern guitar building tool he needed before he built his first guitar. How many of us get to start off with all the right tool AND the finely tuned skills to use them on the first try? I'm guessing this is his 5th guitar, and the first one that was worth showing anyone... just like the rest of us.
@yojik_creates_stuff

hi :) no, not really. before i started to work on a guitar, i started from doing some wood turning. the heavy tools that you see in the video i used in a workshop that is open for everyone. pay by hour. some of the work i did at home, and by that time already had some tools. the hard part was the neck. I ruined 3 necks, every time for a different reason. but this is my first guitar. it's not ideal, but its nice. the finish is not top notch, far from that. but it plays :) and has warm nice sound. the truth is that this one, is better than the second guitar i built :)
great work 1000 times salute
That was great man ! I wanna play it now:)
