How I Built my DREAM Golf Backyard - Start to Finish

Спорт

For this extreme makeover, I was able to transform my backyard putting green into my dream backyard golf oasis!
The old backyard putting green I had installed five years ago was overgrown with weeds, moss, and debris, so I brought in a backyard golf architect who designs backyard golf facilities for countless celebrities to help me renovate the entire area and bring my vision to life.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s looks worse than before? Looks like there’s a lot of gaps and things lifting, and the fringe in fact still looks like two different colors.

It’s been 4 weeks since and it all looks consistent now. Took time to brush out and resolve.

I agree with you. I feel like this guy really didn’t do the job Mike expected. I do think once the plants grow in spring it will be nicer. But you can see this guy was stringing him along and sloppy. Saying 2 days to probably 3-4 weeks. The typical contractor. The seams look way off. All the turf should be layed the same way. The sun hits it and it reflects. Too many scrap pieces to mesh together.

i thought he was gonna make all the green border go the right directions, it still looks pieced together. maybe its better to try to get 1 large piece.

yea, A bit of a Frankenstein effect going on with all the patches. There are a lot of gaps and hard geometric cuts, needs to be smoothed out on the curves. jaggy

If mike was hoping this would bring work to his company, I think the opposite is going to happen. This doesn’t look that seamless. Now I would be stoked to have it in my yard as it’s better than nothing, but for a professional to come and do this, i think he under achieved

Mike ruined his reputation already. His vision was good but his cup hole is not a pro-like. One needs to make cup holes BEFORE laying the Green and be sure they are leveled then surround the cups with quick dry cement about 2” from the each cup. Besides the bumpy green, Fringe (1/12”-2”) were mis-matched..needs to come from same piece (owner may want to save $) and laid same direction. Dark towards your house, bright towards the hill, bright will distracts you while putting in in the Sun. Not to mention, what base rock and Granite fine (the base smooth surface for Putting or Bocce green or white), if he used them..I am not even a Golfer only a DIYer did my own backyard Putting green ~200 sqft2 costed ~$1000 in material & tools. Done Nov 2022, been thru heat & wind storm rain of 2023 still no sag, dimples nor wrinkles. Love to send a picture.

Question: Why did you build the bunker higher and above the green? isn't a bunker always lower and leading away from the green for drainage reasons?

  • @Golficity

Depends on the contractors but something like this if the space was already clear could be like $2000 all in. Turf, and labor?

Not impressed by the outcome. It's 'ok' but not what I would expect from a professional greens person coming in to help. Maybe I missed something? Since it's all artificial turf, the seams are not going to 'grow' together and still look patchy.

Day 14 of commenting on every video of the best golf channel on youtube has ever posted asking to hopefully get sent the golf sim for christmas whoop whoop! Hey man I’m a 19 year old kid as of yesterday who’s currently just figuring out adulting living on my own etc. I got into golf at the end of my last year of highschool but going into the spring i got into a very bad car accident and had to get surgery on my shoulder. I’m just now coming out of all of the recovery and going into my adulthood with more time and less prior engagements living on my own i’m wanting to take golf more seriously. This would help so much giving me a good alternative to playing on a course with how much it cost to play. I hope you all would consider it if you don’t believe my story i would be more than happy to throw in anything that helps show you guys it checks out. I love your guys content. Keep up the good work it’s super inspiring too see what you guys have accomplished god bless!! Ps I would put this in the place i’m renting’s garage!!
