Scott, I'm launching my first print sales. Of all the videos I've looked through for some insight, yours were the best. I loved that it highlighted your start and you also shared what did NOT work. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video and share some insight to help others like myself out.

My point was more that ads don't work for instant sales but they are good for lead generation and building an audience which you can nurture and sell to over time.

Just came across your channel and am just launching my store to sell my photography via canvas prints, framed prints, etc. I'm orig. from Miami and saw what looked like a lot of art deco / south beach prints in your b-roll. well done and thanks for the actionable info!

Inspired by your videos I decided to finally give it a go after a couple of years on Instagram in which I built up over 8,000 followers. I know demand for my photography niche is there, but unfortunately after building a really nice website, a big giveaway splash and 47 sign-ups to my e-mail list, it was mostly crickets when I launched. (Well, SOME interest and one $175 sale, but NOT 4 grand worth of revenues…) I concluded quickly that, no, this is not a passive income stream, as you say. I’ll keep at it, even if it’s only a side gig for me. Another splash around Black Friday will hopefully seal a few more sales. Thanks for the good tips!

Hey Mark, good to hear from you again. Congrats on your launch! Most photographers have never sold a print so making your first sale is an accomplishment. It's definitely not passive income. There's a lot that goes into a successful launch. I alluded to this in the video but some of it comes down to your audience. I've starting working with some photographers and one of the things we consider is how often your audience buys art. Someone can have a connection to your work without being an art lover but if they typically buy art for their home or office, it helps. In my last video I talked a little about using room mockups to show what my work looks like in different room settings. I've found that makes a big difference. Also, not exactly sure how you set up your giveaway but there are tactics to increase your signup rate.

Great video as always Scott! One question, since you are in the lower mainland, I am in the interior, who do you use for your on demand printer? Thanks, Mike

Thanks so much, Mike! I only offer limited edition prints for sale and recommend most others do the same. That requires at minimum that you include a numbered COA which has the print's details. While there are some great printers in Vancouver, none are really set up to offer that. I have tested and was happy with the quality and packaging from Tricera. I think they can ship on your behalf but for me I'd still have the issue with the COA. There is a POD company in Toronto called Print Partner which I have also tested. They do good work and allow you to use their COA template which you can access from their website. Hope that helps.

Hi Scott, your videos are very insightful, practical and actionable. Thank you for doing these videos. What other avenues of sales are you exploring, or is that for future videos?

Thanks! Glad you found the videos helpful. I've pretty much sold almost all my work online at this point. Building up your mailing list with giveaways is a great starting point (you have to clean the list regularly). If you keep marketing to that list you get buyers and referrals. For the future, I'm considering partnering with some people in the interior design trade. That's a whole other way of doing business though.

I've taken precautions on my website and store to prevent downloads. But if someone wants to make a lo-rez screenshot from Instagram and print it out themselves rather than buying a much better quality version of the real thing, not much I can do. I don't really worry about it.
