In this video I share with you my Spanish learning journey. I hope this will help you on your path of language acquisition. 🤓

On this channel you will immerse yourself in Spanish.
Research shows that Comprehensible Input (exposure to comprehensible content) is the most effective way to learn a language.
With Comprehensible Input, we learn the reality of the language by experiencing it. When we listen to interesting and comprehensible stories, our attention is focused on the message rather than on theory and grammar.
With drawings, gestures and repetition, the stories will be understandable to you. As you listen to Spanish that you understand, you gradually become accustomed to the language and create a mental map of it.
With Comprehensible Input, you will develop a "feel" for the language in terms of grammar and vocabulary, characteristic of native speakers.
What does this mean in practice? You will know how to say something, but you won't necessarily know the grammatical rule behind it.
IMPORTANT!
You don't need to understand every single word. The most important thing is to understand the context and the main message.

How do you feel you’ve progressed in that time? I’m at about 450 hours and can understand quite a lot but hardly speak unless I absolutely have to (we’re traveling through the Americas and are currently in Colombia). Hopefully by the time I’m where you are I’ll be able to speak with a bit of confidence and fluidity. 😅

Everybody’s process is different. I’ve logged over 800 hours in two year and tested at B1 somehow yet I have memory issues and I can’t even have more than basic convo where I repeat the same stuff. Still hard to understand the fast pace of the spoken language without acting like a deer in the headlights. I want to quit everyday. And a lot of the fun has been taken out of it for me but I said all this to say I still improve poco a poco cada día. I’ve gone too far to give up. I do have conversations but not nearly enough. But I do have tutoring twice a week. I work full time as a truck driver long hours, kids have activities and more so you got this if i do 🙏🏾🙏🏾

@@ChanceB02 thanks! And great work… at around 450 hours I can definitely respect the commitment to make it to 800. And never give up! Even with the time I’ve invested the payoffs traveling in Latin America are huge… I can’t imagine how great it will be in a thousand or so more hours. 🍻 and best of luck!

You have an awesome voice and a great presence (understated expressiveness) about you as you speak. Your videos are clear, concise, and understandable. You will go as far as you want to go in the space of comprehensible input. I hope that you continue for years and years. I am acquiring Spanish now.

Nosotros los hablantes nativos de español creemos que nuestro idioma es fácil porque sólo nos detenemos a pensar que la pronunciación de las letras es siempre la misma (con unas pocas excepciones) pero como estudiante de inglés me doy cuenta que lo difícil del español es la conjugación de los verbos, los géneros de las cosas, los acentos entre nacionalidades, las frases propias de cada región, etc. You mastered the languaje... Kudos to you from Mexico!
No creo que exista ninguna forma 'perfecta' de hablar español, pero si hubiera que elegir una, yo elegiría la tuya. Tu idiolecto es rematadamente bueno.

¡Muy interesante! Creo que depende de tu personalidad. Hay personas como yo que disfrutan estudiando las reglas gramaticales, y otras no. Pero, de todas maneras, hay que escuchar mucho de comprehensible input para poder entender bien. ¡Grasias por los vídeos!

Me quedo con: es difícil enfrentarnos a nuestras expectativas, es un proceso sin atajos, pero muy simple. La importancia de la exposición al idioma... comprender lo que escuchamos en especial el mensaje principal. En diferentes contextos y diferentes personas.... Que gran aporte para los que nos pasa lo mismo con el inglés. Felicitaciones

Espectacular conocer tu experiencia, me encanto el video, Yo también estoy aprendiendo un idioma por mi cuenta, estoy aprendiendo Inglés, pero no tengo esa ventaja que tuviste gracias a la inmersión total por haber trabajado y vivido en Espana, porque Yo vivo en mi país que es Hispanohablante, escucho vídeos, podcast, veo series en inglés, pero no tengo con quien hablarlo todos los días, Te Felicito.

Im thinking about learning spanish....after watching this video with subs, i can say inunderstpod 70%....im convinced i should do it. Im from slavic country.
Es increible, que podemos aprender un idioma de manera natural, sin gramatica 😊
En mi opinión necesitamos todos: escuchando, leyendo, hablando y la gramatica. La forma natural es la mejor cuando vives en el paìs. Por ejemplo yo aprendí ingles en India. No tenía amigos polacos y todo el mundo hablaban solamente ingles conmigo. Vivía en esta manera 14 meses y después 3 meses estuve en capaz de entender y hablar casí todo y con acentos diferentes. En el tiempo corto me di cuenta que empecé entender Bengali, la lengua local de Kolkata, pero solo después empecé trabajar con una maestra cada día, mi Bengali progresó rapidamente. Es diferente conmigo y español, porque no vivo en España, pero estoy acuerdo que escuchando mucho es muy importante. Aunque uso un libro de gramatica y libros con historias en mi nivel o un poco más alto, miro vídeos en youtube o películas en Netflix, escribo una página sobre mi vida en español cada día, hablo - por desgracia - solo una hora de semana con nativos en Internet. Y paso cadas vacaciones en España :)

Hi. I am at Intermediate level for Spanish. I only study it 3 days per week as I'm studying French too. I started Spanish in 2018, but only really started listening in 2021. I read only for 2-3 years. I can understand Intermediate level Spanish - spoken more clear and a little slower. I can understand sometimes when it's spoken faster / more natural, but I miss parts. However, generally, i have problems understanding fast Spanish which isn't spoken clearly. All i hear are mumbles, i cannot hear words. I have more problems with understanding males, especially older ones. When I can, i try to use subtitles / text and most of the time I understand the majority, so I already know the words / phrases, but I cannot at all hear them when i hear natives speak. I do try transcribing audio, and do ok, but i have to repeat audios many times. It's so frustrating. I know Spanish, but still cannot understand natives speaking naturally. I cannot at all either, understand series or films in Spanish. I cannot hear anything apart from noise.

Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience. I understand that it can be frustrating. I would say that if you already understand intermediate content, then you need to start listening to advanced content with Comprehensible input. It will help you make the transition and to start to understand native speakers more. It's completely normal to struggle to understand native speech rather than modified speech that aids comprehension. It will come, you just need more exposure to the language. Best regards 🤗

Your Spanish is great. You got that "Madre Patria" Spanish accent. I speak Spanish through my family but I do struggle a bit when talking super fast. But it's same for me with English.

I like your videos, and as a result, I watched this one. I thought the video where you did your laundry was superb. You mentioned, "arrived in Spain I practically did not know Spanish." Does this mean you had not studied Spanish at all as I thought Eramus programes required a course of study to at least B1 in the target language. What job did you do in a Spanish hotel without knowing any Spanish that allowed you to work with Spanish people who did not speak Polish or English and did not require you to speak Spanish? Hola 🙂 No, I did not study Spanish before I went on an Erasmus exchange program. It was not Erasmus to study, but to do the internship. I was not required to speak Spanish at all. I worked in the hotel as part of the animation team: I was in charge of sports activities mainly, but also games and activities for children. My boss and my team leader spoke some English, so I could communicate with them, but not all the team members. I hope I answered your question. Thank you 🙂

Me encanto tu idea de la inmersion. Actualmente estoy aprendiendo Portugues y Frances usando Pimsluer. Tienes algunos otros tips? Gracias de nuevo!

Hola 🙂 1 - According to the tests, my level is C2. 2, 3 - I have been learning Spanish for five and a half years and living in Spain for the same amount of time.

Lo ideal es la inmersión, estar en el sitio donde se habla la lengua. Pero muchas veces eso no es posible y creo que la gramática y el estudio de vocabulario ayudan cuando no vives en el lugar

I'm curious. I'm using Dreaming Spanish to learn the language, I'm nearly 300 hours in but I was able to understand about 70-80% of this. What level would you say this vid is? Intermediate? Your Spanish is lovely, subbed!
