Currently transitioning from medicine to SWE. Currently taking online certification courses. The road isn’t going to be easy but I hope to secure a tech job this year!

Certifications are good but make sure you learn the cs fundamentals. Certs and bootcamps will only get tougher so far. I know many great engineers without a cs degree and know quite a few bad ones with masters.
I don't know why so many people seem to believe that a degree is needed to become a programmer. I'd rather say you need one to prove that you can get your shit together over a long period 😂 Most developers I knew don't have a university degree. But, at least in Germany a "Ausbildung", which is a 3 year practical oriented education.

You make a valid point! The belief that a degree is necessary for programming may be a misconception. Many successful developers have proven that hands on experience and practical education can be just as valuable, if not more so, than a degree. But university is still a great option, offering computer science important concepts and in some roles a degree is preferred (not required). For me, what matters most is one's ability to learn, adapt, and solve problems effectively in the evolving field of programming!

like 80% of companies in Germany ask you for an university degree or Ausbildung, if you don't have at least an Ausbildung you are basically invisible to them...

people say a degree is needed because in the us when youre trying to apply to jobs these companies require a college degree because so many people are applying to these jobs and degrees are being used as filters to limit the amount of job applications that HR people get. you dont need a degree to be a programmer, you do need a degree if you want to have a better chance to get a job as a programmer though, in the us

Yup. The only reason I’m getting my degree is to have better chances at GETTING interviews. Literally that’s all it is to me at least.

Ciao Justine, grazie per le informazioni. Molto utili.

My honest advice is to master one programming language first. Having a solid foundation will surely be easier whenever you’ll like to expand your skills!

Then meaning I'll have to go with the Java. Thanks very much
Thank you for this video! Very insightful especially for the newcomers! We also thought about them and made a new video about the difference between a software developer and a web developer (because it's not that obvious )
I am also Justin who’s learning software development.

Nice to hear that my fellow! 🙌
So I'm a business and economics major that is about to graduate in one and a half year but I've been currently experiencing disinterest in my field. I used to code in my teenage years so I picked up again on a whim and I love the thrill of creating something that you experience when programming. I'm looking to make a career change but i don't think I can afford to go to university again for a comp sc degree should I just give up on becoming and SWE.

Thank you for sharing that! Many successful software developers come from different academic backgrounds, and a degree in computer science isn't always a prerequisite. There are lots of resources available online, such as coding bootcamps and self paced courses (just to mention few of them) that can help you further develop your skills without the need for a full university degree. It's never to late to learn coding or to make a career switch, there are lots of way to learn
what was the timeframe when you started learning to code to when you landed your first role?
@giustinow
Ай бұрын
I started coding right after high school, and it took me about less than one year of learning, training and building projects before I landed my first role as a junior developer

Never had a chance to deal with PHP for now, so I cannot give you my honest opinion. Although it has it’s critics, is a versatile language with a wide range of apps!
If may say that when referencing books on vids, would be really great to say out the title & author.
