Same accident, but I’m lucky because my quadriplegic level are low than yours, and it’s a little bit easier to me to do something by myself. You have my respect, and I’m so happy to discovered your KZread channel. I know the reason you did it, because I open mine to do the same. Hope we’ll find a cure one day and we’ll walk together my brother. Take care my friend.

Exercise every day. Took me seven years to be able to write a sentence of twelve words, five years to be able to walk with a pronounced limp. C5 - C7 ACDF and a laminectomy a year later in the same area. Travelled around the world alone, been all over the world. It's still a daily fight but I'll be damned if I'm giving up. Exercise every single day...

I have two elbow crutches that I use to mobilise but if I decide to go to the supermarket i can only use one crutch so that I can carry the grocery bag lol. When I travel I get assistance through the airports, immigration etc so in that regard nothing has stopped me. Severe nerve pain - bilateral myelopathy - is hard to control. I have 21 items on my prescription refills and a recent consultation with my neurologist resulted in getting the morphine I asked for two years ago. Cold weather is a killer for me so I try to go to places like India for a few weeks during the winter just to get major relief from taking painkillers. When my body gets the benefit of the heat there my body loosens up and I never need any medication at all. Within two hours of coming home I'm back on handful's of pills again. My attitude is that I can do something, everything until my body proves otherwise but I can say that I tried - it's always fun lol. (I still ride my Arab mare regularly and I wouldn't ride any other breed because I don't trust them lol).

Zack Collie how will you ever find a woman with such a good woman in your life, she has to set such a high standard! Not that it should be a great concern for you(having a lady in your life) but wow...I'm not gonna lie my example for a woman growing up was not a good one but I am so blessed to have other women that walked into my life to admire and help me to not repeat mistakes of those before me. Now as a mother myself I am righting the wrong of those before me by choosing a different way of parenting and being a woman in general. I wonder what kind of gal I would be if I had a mother like yours! Thanks for sharing your story and your family. sometimes all ya need is a little inspiration!

I could be you. A simple act while having a good time at the beach. In one minute it can all change. I appreciate your attitude, determination and admire your family for acknowledging that this can happen, did happen and let's figure it out. I was tossed head first in a sandbar and knew I was hurt. Miraculously I was no paralyzed. I hit so hard my head went halfway into the sandbar. My neck faces the wrong way and I suffer with pinched nerves that cause excruciating nerve pain. I finally found an upper cervical specialist who has helped me so much. I am so lucky. I am so grateful. Thank you for for sharing your story.

Not really. This happened due to lack of information. It should be taught it schools. I knew about this for many years especially so many people have become disabled like this, everyone should know not to do this. You can still have a good time at the beach and not be me because you know what the risks are of diving like that

Mj Burger So what if it makes him or her look like an asshole? Some people don't care how they are seen by others. They just want to say what's on their mind. Especially if it's the right thing. It's stupid to do stuff without common sense. If someone is so attached from what nature can actually do to them then they don't deserve to reproduce and live. Lucky that it was in a day of age where medicine has advanced.

It's a very difficult thing to adjust to. You have every right to feel down but try to stay above it. Some days in winter I'm out of my face on Tramadol, Dihydrocodeine, Pethidine, Diazepam. I could really relate in many ways. When your mom said, “It did happen”. When my son died in 2012, we were faced with that reality too, that bad things could indeed happen to us too. When horrible things happen, we have two choices. We can just give up or we can keep breathing. Many days, that’s all I have been able to do is to force myself to keep breathing. I just found your channel today. I am crying and hurting and at the same time I am so proud your family. God bless you guys, truly. I mean this with all of my heart. Angie

I want to suggest something. It could be a far shot, but it should help at least some what, since I see him able to move to some extent. Please consider it. There is something called theraputic Horse riding. The movement of the horse is as close as possible to the movement of the human frame. I've seen people with similar injures walk again with the help of theraputic riding. Maybe look into it. I can not guarentee anything, but it may help.

Zack Collie that's really awesome! All the best to you! He's always willing to help others and having his injury for over 25 years now, knows of every free resource out there, so if you ever need to talk about anything let me know. He works for the state helping people find resources, he approves free money from the state for individuals with disabilities who want to go to school, need jobs, a car, etc. He himself went to DVR and had his schooling completly paid for, along with several computers, a car and other aide devices to help. they have DVR's in every state, but usually have different names. Once again of you need anything let me know. 😊 all the best to you!!! You can do it!!!

Hedge76 thank God for the internet though right? Think about it, people with injuries or medical disorders that cause paralysis or movement difficulties were really a lot more isolated and led crushingly boring lives without the internet, like if you wanted to read something someone would have to bring the book or whatever to you and you'd most likely not be able to afford a lot of reading material if you were in that condition, you'd probably be in some kind of hospital or like a private facility without much to do....out of all of human history you live in the tiny 20 year period that has the internet. How lucky are you?? Shoot some HEALTHY people just lay there immobile most of the day on their phone or computer !!

Love & Prayers being sent to you. Over the last 15 years or so I’ve watched a classmate from high school go from star quarterback, bad ass marine, strong outgoing larger than life hero to a tiny, weak, devastating & heartbreaking ALS victim. At this point he can’t do anything for himself. I’m tearing up typing this. I don’t think I’d have half the strength you guys have. Know that you’re gonna be on my mind for a long time, Sarah. (and Zack) May God bless you always. ‘kYm’
