When I feel not unhappy with “my body”, I try to remember that my legs work (I can walk), my heart pumps properly, my brain works relatively well/average, and my hands are able to do a lot of good things for myself and for others. It is very common and easy to forget how fortunate we are, sometimes society’s made up standards are best to be discarded away like a piece of trash because such man-made standards can create problems where there are none🤷🏽‍♀️. Trow away them useless man-made standards 🚮. And be happy 😊!

Thank you for openly discussing about such an important topic. I think all of us, no matter how we look , have insecurities and tend to be strict with ourselves. I sometimes try to think of myself as the little girl I used to be in order to be less strict and self critical but I don't always succeed. For anyone reading this comment, you are enough and will always be. 💕

This was so needed. I feel like social media is exposing some beauty standards that do not reflect reality and, in doing so, are making men and women conform to something that does not exist. I have just recently embarked on this self-loving journey, so I still struggle with seeing and appreciating myself in a positive way. This is why I think more videos like this would actually help everyone struggling with this issue. Thank you ❤️

I'm loving all these mindful videos you have been making lately. I truly understand your feelings and how society expects us to look a certain way. Hated my body for the longest time & it didnt help that my family kept saying things about my body (as if i dont live in this body and see it everyday). Watched another video recently (Growing into your body @Uncomfortable Growth) and the girls talked about how they are neutral with their bodies. I've come to terms with the body I have. It does so much to me on a daily basis and I'm truly grateful for what it does. I think once you come to terms with your body and understand the many wonders it does for you, you learn to appreciate it more. Also I've been feeling myself up a lot just as you do and it makes the relationship between me and my body wayyy better so thank you. And thank you for sharing your journey with us. ✨❤

She had a similar background with food and exercise as you and I found her videos to be a really really great place to see positive, guilt free, healthy living. As soon as you mentioned intuitive eating I thought of her! I had never heard that phrase before I started watching her videos. Ahhhhh Sissel, recently your videos really reach my soul and I feel so cuddled by your gentle words... I'd like to say that I'm going through an healing process too. In the past I was so obsessed with the way I looked and so many stupid standards. Then, since the start of the pandemic, staying more alone with myself and my thoughts has led me to switch from listening to others (well, I STILL think it's important to listen to people as an act of caring) to listening firstly to my self. Even though some days are still really negative and everything with myself seems to be wrong, I feel that I'm loving myself a little more. In my good days, I always try to practice gratitude towards my inner child, my body and its necessites (like food too, I don't even weigh myself anymore, I only care for my health) as you suggest in this video, so I can confirm that we can be slowly healed from these toxic "standards". Thank you for comforting us and duscussing such an underestimated topic. 💚 Wish you a lovely week, Sissel!

Thank you so much for this. Maybe you know how you are helping others with this mindset, but is more than that. I feel so related to you with this topics and seeing you how you're dealing with it, it just makes me so happy. Last year I was in my lowest. I hated myself, my body, the way I am, and luckily I wasn't alone. I have a friend who helps me a lot and is always by my side. She helped me find a therapist (I never had a therapist that... fitted me and felt comfortable with). And let me tell you: I've never been more comfortable. I cried a lot and it made me realize a lot of things about me. A lot of those things that made me hate myself, weren't my thoughts... but things that other people said about me. I made myself think that what I really see about me and what I think are good things that make happy, comfortable and free. I don't know if you understand what I'm trying to say. It is hard to change that mindset from hating and than loving myself as who I am as how I present myself to the world. It is hard to do this on your own, but it is you who has to change that for you. It is important to not feel alone too. As I said before, my friend was there all the time and I could (and still) talk about this things without feeling judged. So thank you for sharing your experience (I know your channel about 3 years now). I can see how you changed for good, for you. So keep up. If you feel like falling, reach someone, your friend. Don't feel bad with yourself if you do, because it's human.

I'm so glad this is being discussed more openly these days. So many people my age (mid-30s) inherited old school 1970s diet culture from our mothers, which are full of restrictions and shame. It's not a modern phenomenon from Instagram, it is deeply rooted in our self worth going back generations. Sometimes it's also difficult to share that you are on this journey, and friends who have not started themselves can be cynical or just don't understand. A few years ago, I did hate how I looked, but I was also always tired and irritable and I was just generally uncomfortable or achy, always. I thought that was "my 30s," but after I made a conscious decision to make better choices for myself, many of those issues went away. I was carrying around additional weight, physical and emotional. It was never a focus on weight loss, just kindness and mindfulness toward myself.

When you talked about being the master of our own creation, it really resonated with me. For a long time I had been the kind of person to blame life among other things for the bad that has happened to me. A very few moments in my life are naturally going to be the product of someone else. But the way I feel, think, react, and enact is ALL up to me. Little by little, I took on the responsibility of accepting that I've caused my own discomfort and misfortunes. And it has made my mind clearer. I've been able to set my goals, fail in getting them done, learn from failing, trying again and eventually reach them at the right time. I am actually looking forward to the next time I mess something up and learn a good deal from it. 😅

Yes! I have learned through the path of loving myself that I have to accept that we are all in different paths or “simulations” based on our beliefs, experiences, personalities etc… We are in a world but we are all living a different one in a sense so it’s just okay for others to not understand where I am. We are all trying to figure something out in a different chapter of our lives. So I don’t get offended if I’m criticized cuz that’s just who I am and that is who they are. This helps me get day by day as my body changes. I’ve grown up being overweight and having major weight loss and then going back losing gaining losing gaining so my weight isn’t constant at all Accepting myself helps me get throughout my life. I believe in you! You can do it!

I felt deep down everything you said in this video. I keep on feeling like I need some change in my life but I think Im not giving my mind and my body the right/enough time for it. I came out of a long and important relationship last year. After a few months I started a new relationship but at the moment I keep on thinking that maybe it was not right to start again so fast. Every week or two weeks I feel I need MY time and MY space to care for myself cause I do feel that I might go back to that depression that made me have some really bad thoughts. The person I am with right now is a good person but Im not sure if it is the right moment for me to be with someone else. I think I should give more love to myself. I do think I should give one more chance to myself before going into another serious relationship, cause I want to love myself first. You are always an inspiration ❤️ sending you some love from Italy.

"the most important thing is just your mindset and being aware of it and starting your journey where ever you can" This really resonated with me. Your talk is inspiring while also making the journey not seem as daunting or impossible. We put so much pressure on ourselves to heal, when really we must be patient and nonjudgmental with ourselves❤️

Hi Sissel, thank you so much for this video. It was truly inspiring. I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time, since I was probably 16/17 years old. Now I'm 18 and I'm so happy to see the direction your channel is taking, because you're inspiring me to love myself more although I still tend to compare myself to others. I guess it's quite common nowadays. You've always been my role model, just like a big sister that I never had, and I thank you for that. I know the response to your videos are not the best, but I really hope they'll be better soon. I wish you the best💚🌿 ly

Many years I was so careful with what I eat e.g. - And intuitive eating has also helped me a lot. Anyway, I love the message of your video ❤️🥰

Hello Sissel! I watch your videos for a while now and one of the reasons why I like them is because they make me feel better instead of making me feel worse (which a lot of other youtubers do). I did not feel like I need to extremely diet and excersice to feel good, I could see a girl with a "regular" body looking pretty and cool as hell in a very trendy pieces. That made me feel like I can do that too and like I am enough as long as I dare, we do not all need to look like the copy-paste instagrammers. 😊

Definitely agree with the part of squeezing your body. Studies have shown that people who squeeze or pinch their bodies are more likely to develop eating disorders, and I get that because it does affect the relationship with your body. One thing that helped me was everytime I would look at myself in the mirror I would consciously look for one thing to compliment myself on. And so the more I would look, the more I would focus on my beauty and what I actually have 😄

this is rlly hard for me. I have been struggling a lot with my body and would aways hate it. It is so difficult for me to break the cycle bc I have always just replaced bad things I did to my body with other bad things thinking it got better. I do not hurt or starve myself anymore but I got really into substance abuse. I think it is just another way for me to deal with it. Thank u Sissel for bringing this important topic up, I think u help a lot of people 💛

Such a lovely video! I feel with you so much about struggling to accept how you look and feel about yourself, and I'm really glad you're in a better place with yourself now! I'm still working on it for me, but slowly but surely making progress. (I do wish you were a little careful with saying science can't prove anything, because what science does is immensely important, and people may take it the wrong way...)

I'm still on the journey of loving/accepting myself. And when I look at myself, I just try to be neutral without any judgement. Because as of right now, I wouldn't believe myself if I said that I love myself. So, instead of saying I love/hate this about my body, I'm just like I have this body, I have those thighs, stomach etc.

It's definitely a very important topic, especially as women. Something that really changed how I connected with and thought about my body is the idea of joyful movement. There's a strong social idea of 'punishing your body' with hard workouts etc. and for me that just made me feel awful and overwhelmed. I met a community of women who together we hiked and did yoga and just existed in our bodies, enjoying the simple pleasure in movement and thanking our muscles, thanking our tummy, thanking our strong arms, for helping us up a hill, or through a class. Feeling the stretch and, not pushing into the pain, but feeling the movement and pleasure of stretching out a sore back or muscle. Just focusing on being, instead of doing. It has taken a lot of time and there is always work to do to push back against societal ideology, but it is such a joyful way to live.

I think the most difficult part of this healing journey with your body is the up and downs : You could feel like you've made so much progress sometimes, and then one day without any warning, you see yourself in the mirror and the bad habits and bad thoughts come back... And we have to start again. That is SO hard, but it's the way life works... Somedays we are stronger than other, and that's okay. But we have to keep going, to keep trying, to keep healing 💚

Speaking of intuitive eating. I’ve found that I feel so much better when I eat food I craved. Obviously controlling the portions matters as well, but I have found that have a slice of cake when I feel like it makes me feel good and happy. I even crave salads and fruits and water, A LOT of water. I didn’t even realise this until recently and it’s been such an eye opener. I don’t beat myself up for having that burger because I’m most probably gonna want a green salad tomorrow. It feels balanced and I trust my instincts.

My mind might've been in the gutter but when I first read the title of the video, I read it as you are using your body to heal her relationship (w/Jake). I had to reread it to understand that you are healing the relationship you have with your body. I've been watching you for years and love your growth. Here's me sending you some love and light. I hope that you see yourself the way we see you - that you are so beautiful! Truly!

Why would I hurt it with such bad words.. here the things twisted, i started liking my thighs, my toes .. and my arms.. I'm still trying to introduce new thoughts, thanks for sharing your real true self with us .. we learn from true people like you
