How I almost slid off the runway.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I drifted my Ercoupe to prevent sliding off the runway at Magic Valley Revivor, Idaho.
I finally got around to making the video! ... after 5 years.

Hey there. I have one in Nampa N99573 a '46 C. If you want to practice a technique that I learned, get to a safe altitude and do this. Cut the power and pull the yoke back gradually as you would in a power off stall. Keep it straight ahead. When the plane begins to stall, it will begin losing altitude but not stalling. It will be mushing down at a rate of about something close to 4-500 fpm. To resume flying simply lower the nose and it will begin its normal sink rate. If you come out of such a maneuver anywhere under 10 ft. AGL you might think you'd hit hard but you will not. You will mush on a cushion of air compressed between the ground and your wings. Possibly the softest landing you'll ever experience. Like a gull landing on a beach. I did that once by accident. I practiced it many times at a safe altitude but never above a runway since then. Hope you keep flying your Ercoupe, they're one of the most satisfying experiences that I have found here in this veil of tears.

@@SamandKadenGoPlaces Are you based in Buhl? I had a farm south of Curry Crossing. I live in Boise now. My son and I fly. I bought him a Cherokee 140. He's in Poky taking A&P studies. My CFI has an Ercoupe, and there are 4 more here a KMAN. Hope you keep your Ercoupe because no one no, everyone who ever sold their's didn't regret it later.

As a long time pilot, AND Ercoupe owner…several things here. Obviously you realize you were high, and fast. Never touch down that far down the runway..GO AROUND. But I’m sure you know that now. Also, luckily for us, the trailing link gear saved your airplane. One last thing…. About the only external, suction mount for the camera that works is the Fat Gecko. BUT, even that is not going to hold on the curved fuselage. But it does nicely on the elevator or rudders. Glad it all turned out well. Yet another success story for the great 415C !
