What I like about Brotherhood is how it celebrates life through and through. Relatively few named characters actually die in the story, and they make a big deal out of it every time. There are many stories that have more characters die more often - and that isn’t inherently bad at all. But Brotherhood is consistent tonally and thematically with the way it treats the life of each character in the story.

The death of Maes Hughes was such a big deal because he was such a nice, hard working man who was very smart and never stopped working to help his friends no matter what, and he was funny and endearing with how much he loved his wife and daughter and would do anything for them. His death carries over with his best friend Roy Mustang’s pain and anger over his loss and wanting vengeance for it.

Fullmetal Alchemist is just so deeply human. It’s about love, about hope, about how humans are deeply flawed but there’s so much more than just that. At its core, it’s so simple. It manifests in many different ways with many different characters, but it all comes down to this humanity that feels so genuine and true to life. It’s such a simple theme! And “people are good and hope is good” aren’t unique concepts in fiction at all! And yet somehow Fullmetal Alchemist has this profound effect on me. Hiromu Arakawa your brain is so big I just cannot believe how good this story is.

(i use it in coy quoets beucase i consider such things one and the same) Truth is acutaulyl ecstatic, and happy to be 'bested', but it's not about bested, becuase both Truth and Edward are both 'winners' here, it's beyond the scale of winning or losing, to Truth seeing Edward actualise and realise and ascend beyond his perosnan limitations is the greatest joy that a metaphysical being that representts 'everyting' can have --> Truth is in literal joyful disbelief that *Edward* figures 'it out all out.' Even though Edward has all the pieces of hte puzzle together, Truth almost coyingly goads Edward with alchemy, despite knowing the answer, to which Edward replies theres nothign wrong with just being a normal human. It's utter beauty that FMa:b contrasts it PERFECTLY by showing Father's response to his Truth, it's desperate 'What did I do wrong?' there is no universe Father would ever critically reallise the error of his ways, and that' something Truth scornfully shakes their head at... It noot only in one fell swoop, competelys Father's conflict with Edward (since primarily he was *Hohenheim's* villain) forgot wht i was tlaking abt im faded as hell fmab is balle though
As everything gets worse, I appreciate not only stories that celebrate life like this but also people who point out that, yes, FMA is a good looking show with cool characters, great worldbuilding, phenomenal direction, etc... The one thing I respect a lot from Ed and Al was their restraint. So many scumbags and persistent enemies in the show and not once did they show any urge to kill them. When faced with the consequences to not kill his enemy (Kimblee), he didnt even hesitate and used his own life force to heal his wounds. He didnt let others take this on for him, he saw that it was his choice to not kill, so he had to accept the consequences of that choice himself.

They truly knew the value of a human life. Even if it was the most despicable and hateful individual, they knew that their life too had a incomparable value.
I've noticed that two of my favorite series (FMAB and Attack on Titan), both focus on the theme of humanity persisting no matter what. There's just something about watching characters face trials over and over and finally overcoming them that is so satisfying to watch.
despite how vague it is, i think fmab has some of the most human messages and themes in any story i've experiences

Damn best thumbnail choice ever! What I love about the show is how the worth of human is shown in how each character's death is felt and remembered throughout the series. No lives are less significant just because they are side characters or just one of the souls. “Don’t be in denial” - this video in a nutshell
God this anime is magnificent in pretty much every way. In my personal opinion, it has something for pretty much everyone, even folks who usually don't like anime. The fights and action maintain a consistent power level among characters and actually serve the story rather than just pure spectacle. The characters are absolutely fantastic and easy to get attached to. They all serve a function being just as complex or simple as they need to be. These two points allow more casual viewers to just sit back and enjoy the show. However, Brotherhood is far from shallow and has more than enough thematic, philosophical, ideological, and spiritual crunch to keep more passionate viewers engaged for years after viewing. It covers so many ideas with just enough depth to say something about all of them. Some characters can open up a Pandora's Box of questions and debates (Wrath and Hohenheim being arguably the best examples). I just absolutely adore this show. Sure some other anime may be able to outperform it in specific areas, like Death Note having an even better score, but FMA: Brotherhood outperforms almost all of them as a complete product. I would also argue it is the best introductory anime
There's so many "anime experts" that have said this show isnt that great, only cause it's written to appeal to all ages, younger and older. When Anime Man said that it's not that great, I understood what his taste is like lol

Real shit
One of the greatest stories ever told
9:48- A creature that didn't realize his humanity due to not looking like one. So he took on a form that was human- one that was on the surface- a means to be more acceptable to the sight of those he wished to deceive/use, but also to fulfill that desire. His paradoxical apathy towards humanity and insecurity over not being in control, however, leads to him rejecting that humanity and revert temporally into a more humanoid yet one-dimensional version of himself- a multi-eyed fallen angel that is hypocritical and mocking. Yet when he finally absorbs Truth/God, out of all the forms he could conceivably take to be a threat- something eldritch or incomprehensibly godlike- he still chooses a human form. Father/Dwarf in the Flask subconsciously wanted to be human, but his sheer vanity and issues left him not appreciating this, making him more of a monster pretending to be human. Unlike others like the Chimera and the Suits display humanity is in the heart, not appearance- something Father not fundamentally understood.
Along with Berserk, this show has changed my life for the better.

I don't know why anime reviewers said it is just a plain good anime ranging from 6/10 and 7/10 max. But to me it deserves a spot on top 3 anime of all time. Why? It offers great plot and story telling, great twist and little to no plot holes, great explanation for power scalings, and most of all character developments.
A story with a similar message in my mind is Jojos, its a story that showcases all facets of humanity, the good, the bad, and the bizzarre. The show celebrates our mortality and our differences through every new protagonist that comes, and our worst flaws through every antagonist (although some aren't so flawed, rather they have a different outlook).

Yeah, it draws you in with the memes and the crazy fights, but as you explore more and more, you realize that it’s really just about painting a realistic picture of humanity, and all its highs and lows. The dialogue feels like things real people would say, not just lines from a character. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you expect, and endings can be anticlimactic, but that’s just how real life is. The powers and circumstances may be bizarre, but the characters and conflicts underneath are very real, and very human Don’t know if Alec is ever gonna make a jojo video but if he did that would really be something

Comparing the two shows is hard, becouse you can select atributes like the animation, the plot, the lack of plotholes, and say that FMA is better objectibly, but I will tell you that what I like about Jojos is the feels it has, what it makes me feel, how it surprises me, how it allways feels new, and we will necer reach an "objective" definition of which one is better on the feels becouse it is subjective by nature (and most descriptors are like that). Ty for making this. I'd honestly love a vid on 2003 like the character development/growth or how tragic it is
