How Hard is Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer Training?

Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers are among the most elite operators in the US Armed Forces. Known as ASTs, they undergo a 10 month training regime that weeds out three of every four candidates. Once in the fleet, “swimmers” can count on being dropped into rescues on top of mountains, in hurricanes, flooded cities and far out to sea.

Its a 2 year plus waiting list, and a year plus of training to be fully certified. That’s nearly towards the end of ones first enlistment period. That’s a long time and dedication. Semper Paratus

Son just started CG basic. Got into the Annex X program to attempt A school. Determined to become an AST - Rescue Swimmer. Sounds like a tough course, hope he has waht it takes.
What's crazy is what is shown at 0:13 wasn't from an AST, but it was from a nonrate lmao
Navy Seals have stated that AST School in regards to swimming is much harder and more challenging than BUDs. Especially when they go to colder arctic waters for training. “The Angels In The Sky”

And yes Armed Forces. They are DHS but they are Armed Forces. Don't need to be DOD to be military. They are the only branch not DOD tho.

I'm sorry to say but yeah 35yo is too late to start you have to have been 17-31 if you wanted to be a RS. But you never know call a recruiter.
