The song in the infamous Inception trailer that kickstarted the whole bruuuuuuum sound was actually composed by Zack Hemsey! It's called Mind Heist. Don't know why Zimmer says he's the one who started that trend, though... Bit of a dick move there, or maybe he just doesn't remember idk.

"The sound" was written into the script because like he said, it was a story point. It's basically a very slow version of the first seconds of the Edith Piaf tune. By the time Zack Hemsey composed "Mind Heist" Nolan and Zimmer are deep into the edits of the film and most certainly have experimented with "the sound" and told Zack to implement it for the trailer track.

It is unfortunate that Hans failed yet again to credit Zack Hemsey, the composer of Inception’s trailer score, for coming up with the BRRRRAAAMMM sound that Hans then (quite effectively) incorporated into the movie’s soundtrack. EDIT: Mike Zarin is the composer of the very first trailer for Inception, and thus the responsible for the iconic horn sound. Zack expanded on it, making the most memorable trailer score.

The BRAAAMMM sound is actually a story point in the movie. The sound is inspired from the first few seconds of a French song that has been slowed down. That slowed down sound was remade by Hans to be the iconic version that you are talking about. I think it's pretty safe to assume that Hans wrote the sound for the movie and then his soundtrack was given to Zack Hemsey for inspiration to create "Mind Heist".

@@zb4358 What you said doesn’t imply causality as it can be easily achieved by reverse engineering. You can slow down and morph any rhythm to fit the BRRRAAAAMMM sound, which is exactly what Hans did because Piaf’s song doesn’t fit into the BRRAAAMMM just by being slowed down. I was, however, mistaken in thinking Zack composed all the trailer music for Inception, but he didn’t. The very first teaser, where the BRRRAAAMM was already present, was composed by Mike Zarin - so credit belongs to him.

@@alexalexis7899 Piafs song slowed down is does fit the BRAAAMMM BRAAAMMM sound that is in first song in the album soundtrack and the opening of the movie. The pitch matches just from being slowed down. If you look up inception Piaf song comparison you’ll hear it. You can also slow the song down yourself and it will match. I realize you’re talking not about BRAAAMMM BRAAMMM, but rather BBBRAAAAAAMMMM, which are two different sounds from two separate tracks in the soundtrack. The point is the longer BRAAAAAMMM you are referring to is part of the inception soundtrack that Hans wrote. It also happens to be in the trailers. So you are claiming the trailer songs were written before Hans wrote the soundtrack? I don’t believe that to be the case.

@@zb4358 The trailer scores where created before Hans wrote down a single note for the film, which is what is common in the industry. He liked the result and incorporated his version of it. No shame in that.
