I should point out that in Pokémon Colosseum, Shadow Bayleef was the most chosen Johto starter, but not on purpose. It's because when the choice opens up to you, the game does a _terrible_ job letting you know there even _is_ a choice. The only information you're given beforehand is that you have to go to Pyrite Town immediately, and from there you enter the map right next to the blocked exit with the trainer who has Bayleef. If you talk to him the battle starts right away so by the time you realize you could have gotten a different starter, it's already too late and you're stuck with Bayleef.

Even once you know what options await you, Shadow Bayleef is objectively the best choice given your limited options. Shadow Crocanaw is something you should never choose considering how many better Shadow water types exisit throughout the game. Shadow Quilava could be better than Shadow Slugma, but it gets outshined by Shadow Entei if you can catch it. The only other Shadow grass types are Skiploom and Sunflora.

Heck, they gave Munkidori, a LEGENDARY POKÉMON, that awful ability. It's just Run Away with flavor text. Like Illuminate, Frisk needs to be reworked. I was surprised by how well it performed, since most other videos don't mention Typhlosion when talking about prominent threats in the lower tiers. Turns out it was because Typhlosion was so good it kept landing in the ban list. You hate to see it, but also, you love to see it.

That was because it did well in the lower tiers. In the earlier gens, it always had the problems of being overshadowed by Charizard. It’s really depressing how it’s selling point was having barely better coverage while Zard had Belly Drun.

Typhlosion was the first fire type starter I chose in the Pokémon series, and has become a favorite of mine since, even I they butchered it with the 3D model. And the fact it has a regional variant? That's just the icing on the cake.

This reminds me of back in HGSS when they let Typhlosion learn Earth Power at the Battle Frontier, and everyone was like, "Oh that makes so much sense!" And then they gave it and its fellow Johtonians Mega forms in Gen VI because they're classics too. And then after all the positive feedback from fans everywhere they continued to do things that made so much sense like not arbitrarily taking Dual Wingbeat away from Charizard, and not having Raids set on a timer that can be easily desynced because of varying connections. And now Gen IX is smoothly executed and Typhlosion is solid in competitive even post-Megas, and things are just nice. Good memories.

Literally 99% of pokémon get better if you just give them auto-weather/terrain. The fact PELIPPER sees play, is all you need to prove that. The heat shimmer thing is local to it, any fire pokémon could be drought setter by that logic. Typhlosion is my favourite Mon, but I'd prefer something more interesting than "it does weather". The new form was good start, just a deeper/stronger coverage pool would be nice for base form.

Would love to see a video that covers how things would be different if the gen 1/2 special split went the other way for each Pokémon. For instance: Weezing lost 15 points in special defense when special became two categories; a video speculating how good could weezing could have been if it's special defense increased by at least that much would be interesting. Same goes for those Pokémon's that lost special attack during the transition. I always think about this as the biggest missed opportunity to rebalance underpowered gen1 pokemon.
