Back when X/Y first game out and everyone was mindlessly spamming banded Talonflame, i just used King's Shield + Swords Dance to exploit that brainlet play and then just Shadow Sneak sweep since i usually got away with 3 Dances (1 for the first weakened Flare Blitz, 1 for the super weakened Flare Blitz, and 1 on the switch when my opponent finally realized what was happening). It astounds me how long and often that worked, almost like clockwork.

@@GM.Nobody Only probably? With max HP it lives an Adamant max attack Excadrill EQ and KOs back with Sacred Sword. If Gen 6 and Gen 7 OU couldn't stop this thing, no way Gen 5 could either. Sand immunity too of course because why not, and you can pursuit trap all the psychics.

I'm 90% sure that Steel no longer resisting Dark and Ghost was _entirely_ because of Aegislash. So in that situation, the change would've been made a generation earlier 🤣

I've never seen a pokemon that came out at such a perfect time in competitive, Fairy types, mega Kangaskhan, the current state of steel types overall. Aegislash was literally honed to perfection around X and Y competitive.

As much as I love Aegislash , it(as well as Gholdengo) is a *big* testament to why I always make sure that a Pokemon I’m planning to use has a way to hit steel types for at least neutral damage, because the Steel/Ghost type combination can absolutely ruin you if you don’t have a way to deal with it.

not only does it not suffer from low speed, instead it benefits from it by tanking hits with 150/150 defenses (or 140/140 post SWSH) and then being able to retaliate back with 150/150 (140/140) offenses. insane mon

Gamefreak really said “what if we made a slow Deoxys, but it also has the defenses of registeel”

Not mentioned in the video, but when aegislash dropped to UU the first time, doublade was already running the tier. Definitely not a mime/rime situation, but it was still funny that father and son were in UU at one point.

The entire line of honedge doublade and aegislash has to be one of the coolest designed pokemon ever. I always thought it paved the way for other possibilities when it came to possessed weapon pokemon like maybe a fire rod or scythe.

Aegislash has been the scariest Pokémon to me since I learned how it was in competitive. When I played Pokémon X, it was ON SIGHT even if it couldn’t hurt me the same way.

After 5 years, the mascot gets its spotlight.

Honestly you just had to be there. This thing was absolutely monstrous when X&Y dropped

Aegislash's lack of VGC placements also was partially due to dynamax not being as favorable for it. Heatran wasn't good in generation 8, because things could output too much power with dynamax for its liking, and aegislash may have just been a victim of that as well.

Max Guard also didn't put Aegislash back into shield form for reasons science can't explain(even if the base move you used was king's shield) Aegislash was horrible in dynamax formats

That's what happened. It wasnt a dynamax sweeper and Max quake was too much for It to be a defensive or support mon. It could Still came back to vgc. But It also could gain back its stats, due to not being as oppresive.

Some of the most fun I ever had on Showdown was in the early days of X and Y OU and you’d get the Aegislash mirror. With you and your opponent trying to out predict one another with King’s Shield, Swords Dance and Shadow Sneak. It actually felt like participating in an actual sword fight to some degree. Constantly predicting as to weather you should strike, parry or power up!

Aegislash in UU really went "I'm not stuck in here with you.... YOU'RE ALL STUCK IN HERE WITH ME."

The first time people saw Honedge it was a target of the tired old meme defense "huhuhuh, gen wunn had dezighns like magnet", but once it turned into Aegislash _no one_ was laughing. It's absolutely one of XY's best new Pokémon both design wise and usage wise. If _Game Freak_ saw fit to balance something by directly reducing its stats, you just know it's a force to be reckoned with.

I love these vids, because the more of them you watch, the more you see Pokémon from these videos, and that has made it so much easier to genuinely be able to see how all these different Pokémon interacted and defined the metas of their time, please keep up the incredible work man ❤️

Best part is it's such a Menace but everyone loves it because it's so fun and has a fantastic design, a damn near perfect pokemon imo

The fact that a Mon with an effective BST of 680 ended up in UU is frankly ridiculous. This franchise's metagame never fails to astound me with how complex it is sometimes.

What a treat for Halloween, the video they finally cover my boy Aegislash. The channel mascot of FSG and my favourite Pokemon along with Swampert :)

At last, FSG's mascot mon takes the center stage! And it says a lot that its stats were outright nerfed in future generations. Edit: it's also incredibly ironic that Aegislash's stats were first nerfed in Sword and Shield.

Of note, Aegislash and hydreigon made an excellent pairing in Gen 6 VGC formats because together, they resisted or were immune to every single type in the game (including ground due to hydreigon's levitate ability)

Aegislash is crazy great I think it's one of maybe 20 Pokemon that got into Ubers. This was in Gen 6 where power was really high with a lot of options unlike early generations

I genuinely adore this 'Mon. It did so much work for me in Pokemon Y from its very introduction into my team. Shame about the nerf, but it's still a hell of a Pokemon.

Mega salamence in vgc was the sole reason for that. Megas aren't even around anymore and the others still have to deal with that nerf.

One thing that idk was covered in the XY section was how well aegis paired with keldeo. This was a pursuiter that fully beat the lati twins, slowtwins, mega lucario, any deoxys, jellicent, celebi, medi, gard, basically anything that beat keldeo through bulk or revenge killing aegis could trap for fear of losing ur keldeo checks and getting scald funnied later in the game. It could also subtoxic and aegis all over everybody who the hell allowed this for so damn long

Happy Halloween False Swipe Gaming! There is no better way to celebrate it than to analyze how amazing Aegislash was and still is. The 1st Honedge I encountered on Route 6 in Y ended up being a shiny. I was so dang happy to have Shiny Aegislash for my ingame team. Aeglislash has perfect offensive and defensive typing. Aegislash is so dang good that steel types had to be nerfed just to account for its existence. Even when it was given a stat nerf in SS, it still was incredible. It's sub/toxic sets and ability to check the Slowtwins, Slowtwins Galarian counterparts, Buzzswole, Rillaboom, and others ensured it would never be dead weight even in metagame extremely hostile to its traits. When it's reintroduced in SV, it will have to compete with the amazing Gholdengo but will be able to establish a niche all of its own thanks to its stance dance abilities in conjunction with tera. If Aegislash gained Poltergheist and knock off, it would have the offensive and utility prowess comparable to SM. Here's hoping Aegislash returns better than ever in Indigo Disk.

I think a cool video could be explaining the effects of field conditions (entry hazards, terrain, weather, trick room, etc)

I never played pokemon competitively but I remember loving aegislash with a weakness policy, purposefully switching in on a super effective move or tanking one during swords dance to blow through teams

Ghost is my favorite type and Aegislash is one of if not my favorite. Most not only due to viability, but just due to theme, lore, ability, and aesthetic.

Hope they consider undoing the nerf to Aegislash's stats at some point considering the newer stuff they've allowed to wreak havoc

Nope, that marketing team don’t like old Pokémon unless it’s nostalgic Charizard and Mewtwo to take away the attention of the new generation, otherwise it will impact sales

I would like to add to the gen 8 vgc section that aegislash was never used because of dynamax being very bad for it. It was a terrible user of dynamax and got hit really by the extra powerfull dynamax moves. I still have hope for its returns (if it does) in gen 9

Aegi has been my favorite since x and y, still is my favorite and my favorite shiny pokemon, seeing "how great" in the title makes me so damn happy 😭

This is the first Pokémon ever who got his stats nerfed! (If you dont count the physical/special split on gen 2) Aegislash is so good and i love using him in Sun and Moon i use him with Malamar and Brutal Swing to play offense while on defense Incineroar on the back and competitive Milotic and Mimikyu as trick room setter

Sadly it probably would have been power creep even without the nerfs

toxic, king's shield, substitute, and shadow sneak. leftovers, max ev's on both defenses, adament for the ss damage. it was a PAIN to deal with!! i also tried a choice band variant with iron head, head smash, sacred sword, and shadow claw. it would pretty much one shot and then switch out. it got so many by surprise!!

Aegislash is just amazing in whatever game it ends up in. Mainlike Pokemon? Great. Pokken? One of the best characters Unite? A solid All-Rounder

Am I a part of history for suggesting this mon for months and false swipe finally did it?! I also felt this way when I was also suggesting Heatran for months and then he finally did in a month or so ago. I hope I'm getting a shout out for these things by the video uploader. 😉

That's the funny thing about most fully evolved Ghost types; a lot of them know how to scare you (competitively) and Aegislash is the highest up there. Happy Halloween

Aegislash's bad performance in Gen 8 VGC is more because King's Shield doesn't work in Dynamax.

I see that the Halloween episode ended up being the scariest ghost type of all in Aegislash. Seeing him sent out in battle at a certain point of the game’s competitive scene was tantamount to a jump scare for sure.

Usually, it's better to be faster than your opponent's pokemon. But in Aegislash's case, being slower actually benefits it.

I'm playing Emerald Rogue and Aegislash consistently puts in the numbers. Protecting against moves is *vital* in a game where fainting is extremely punishing, and the attack drop from King's Shield can open up opportunities to switch in allies that can set up on the weakened opponent.

Aegislash has one of the coolest designs. One of my absolute favorite Pokemon of all time. Ghost/steel is such cool typing.

Really love my Aegislash in 3DS. All the breeding time paid off when I got a good one. Very easy to use even online just make sure to get your prediction right. Also good in Battle Tree in Gen 7.

I had success at a local tournament with a Three Attack Swords Dance Set. I also got a shiny honedge during the breeding process. Unfortunately, I lost the cartridge containing it somewhere in Austin.
