I'm not adept at the 'Dark Souls' formula, but I was perfectly invested in Cal's journey with BD-1 and co. I sincerely hope Survivor's narrative expands on Cal's relationship to the crew and I'm really hoping they expand his relationship with Merrin; it would definitely be a welcome change of pace from 'Retrieve the McGuffin' or 'Blow up the Superweapon'.

Contrary to popular opinion, I liked the open world and collectables in this game FAR more than most other games. I did not have to use a guide to get everything, and it did not feel like a chore like most games these days. Lack of fast travel made it semi realistic which helped make you feel like a part of the world as you had to walk back to your ship every-time. Even the fact that loading screens were disguised as travel time was quite cool

@@haroonp8842 damn I thought you were exactly like me and didn’t like the ending either ahaha. But yeah that is also one of the issues for me Cal destroying the holocron. Makes him too important to the franchise imo. But tbh the holocron itself doesn’t make sense being in the game at all. Vader destroys it in the comics shortly after ROTS because he doesn’t want their to be a potential Sith army or anymore inquisitors. He wants to be the only abomination of death for the empire and only considers himself and Palpatine as worthy beings of the force at this point. So no idea how the holocron is magically a thing again in this game or why Vader wants it. I think it’s just a massive mistake because they get Vader completely wrong with how he interacts with Cere. So yeah they mishandled Vader quite significantly but literally every single project that isn’t a comic or a book does that unfortunately. The guy literally has no wins outside written material. He loses in every single one of the films and shows and is depicted as bad as he is in this game elsewhere too like the Kenobi show for instance

I found it so cool to explore that republic ship later on in the game. It wasn't something you had to do for the for progression. It was entirely a choice to double back to a supposedly completed planet to go explore this one water area you remembered, and an entire ship is opened up to you. It's frustrating when let's players don't listen and completely miss it, but it's such a cool thing to go explore, and the echoes of the last hours of that unknown padawan and their master during order 66 was just heartbreaking

  • @protector_of_the_realms

    @protector_of_the_realms

    Жыл бұрын

@@khotunkhan3950 Vader’s motivations and psychology is off and he’s mistreated quite significantly by having his forced shield completely ripped through and made to kneel in front of a failed Jedi (which even Palpatine couldn’t do. He had to inflict pain on Vader to make him kneel willingly so somehow Cere is more powerful than Palpatine) when she should be much weaker than Vader but instead he applauds how strong she is and wants her to join him which is ridiculous and not like Vader at all. He doesn’t like any other force users besides him and Palpatine and as proof of that in the comics which got his character right, (now here’s the contradiction) pretty soon after ROTS he actually destroys the holocron that names the youngling force sensatives the Jedi order had that we see in Clone Wars but yet for some reason it’s in this game stupidly and he’s trying to get it and Cal is the one that destroys it which also makes his character much too important to the franchise imo. But the main thing is that it just makes no sense that the holocron itself shows up here when it’s already been destroyed and why Vader is the one trying to save it when he’s the one that wants to destroy it the most in the whole galaxy. He doesn’t want there to be any inquisitors and hates them (a lot like me ahaha), so he certainly wouldn’t want more. He doesn’t entertain the possibility of trying to turn anyone to the dark side other than his son Luke so it’s also bs how he wants Cere to turn after she owns his ass. In addition to that Illum is wrong and should be way more F’d up visibly from orbit, the temple is supposed to be gone, the ice wall destroyed and there’s a massive imperial presence noticeable from space. In the Ahsoka novel she can not only sense it but tell from sight that it’s overrun with imperials and there’s no point going there. Makes Cal and the crew look like blind idiots that they are surprised when they stumble upon them. Anyway those are the 3 main contradictions. Illum, the holocron and Vader’s motivations. There’s also a small one with the 9th sister’s appearance and her hand or feet or something (Can’t remember which) were already cut off by Vader and replaced but in the game she has everything intact. There’s some more wrong with the story and characters though that I have bigger issues with than the contradictions themselves but I’ve focused a lot on the negatives so some of the positives of just the narrative part of it is that I like Trilla (which is a big compliment because I hate the concept of inquisitors so they’re already at a predisposition for me to hate their characters haha) who was unfortunately wasted but at least Vader got a kill despite them screwing him up. Then the Captain and then BD-1 and that pet you find are the other characters I like. I loved the archaeological theme to it and the Zepho. I think their inclusion is an improvement to their Legends counterparts in the Rakataa atm but it remains to be seen how they’re handled in the future. Overall it was a really good fun game and I hope the next one improves on the stories and characters and doesn’t have as much unbelievable bs, tropes, cliches and does some better character work. Also though have a problem with how many Jedi are surviving order 66 which continues to cheapen the moment. It’s a bit ridiculous to introduce potentially 5 new ones in just the one story all of whom are somehow human which seems so forced, makes the galaxy small and the people behind it xenophobic ahaha. Which they def are based on an interview they said about protagonist relatability and how you have to have a human face as if Master Chief and Mando don’t exist and Ahsoka and Maul aren’t 2 of the most popular Star Wars characters ever. If anything making a character a cool alien makes them more distinct, sells more and provides a cooler backstory. So the guys an idiot. But it’s just unbelievable, stupid and breaks my immersion every time I see a human and even more so a human Jedi. Unfortunately that’s what it’s always been like so far in the shows and films since the PT and Clone Wars wrapped up. Kenobi was ridiculous in this regard with 99% of people being human on Tatooine even when in the OT it’s like 80% Aliens. It’s a small thing but just ruins the believability of the galaxy for me and the story. I’m sick of having every protagonist that shapes the galaxy be human with how unlikely that is and what it means message wise

@@khotunkhan3950 you just proved to me for a fact that you don’t know Star Wars. Funny you could also only target the one thing I wasn’t sure about. The turning your head away with a blind eye at the evidence is top notch. I said I wasn’t confident about the 9th sister and I tagged it on at the end of 1 line and that’s the thing you chose to focus your whole counter point on lmao. The things you guys do to find 1 nitpick small error in an argument and make a big deal out of it whilst ignoring the more important things that were actually being said is funny. “If Vader wasn’t interested in other force sensitives there wouldn’t be any inquisitors” plain wrong because Vader isn’t interested in inquisitors which is shown multiple times in canon. They weren’t his idea. He hates them and takes any chance he can get to kill them. They’re Palpatine’s idea and Vader disagrees with it. He didn’t even know they were a thing and fought the Grand Inquisitor the first time they met unaware who tf he was. Palpatine was grooming the grand Inquisitor and gave him authority before Vader’s mask even concealed his face and he went off to kill his first Jedi in the suit. He was blindsided by the inquisitors being a thing and they were the backup plan incase Vader failed. And Vader hates them and doesn’t want more. They stand for his failure. It’s a gross misunderstanding of the psychology of who Darth Vader is in both canon and legends. He wants to be the only abomination for the Empire and Palpatine. And that’s literally stated in prose in many comics and books and is visible on screen. But everyone gets Vader wrong these days like the Kenobi show and this game. And as I said he literally destroyed the holocron in canon because he literally isn’t interested in force sensitives. Which is something Vader would do and literally has already done in canon as I just said. So unfortunately you are very, very wrong and have completely misunderstood Vader. The stuff you choose to ignore and try to find loopholes in is insane and instead target my logic on something superficial like an inquisitor’s ascetics haha. And how about the issue with Illum hmmm? It’s people like you that is why Star Wars is where it is now. Not understanding any of the lore of Characters, being content with mediocrity bad characters and things that make no sense, not willing to justly criticise something in the hopes of it getting better and them making it right. Hope they have been able to effectively build upon that foundation. Just a bit of polish to the jank feeling parts of combat could make it feel like a Dark Souls 2 to 3 jump in quality, a bit better level design for backtracking and subsequent playthroughs with a bit more change or variety in the choices you can make with where to go first like the Zeffo/Dathomir choice hints at, and more solid bosses would be great to see, hopefully a bit more involvement from your crewmates also.

A great entry game, very well set, nice mechanics but not perfect, surprised with such good openworld for what I expected. It was awesome to play it and replay it again and again. Failled miserably with the ponchos. Nice touch letting us getting the dual lightsaber on the first mission we chose. Survivor is giving me even way bigger expectations. Hope it lives to them, I'm all hyped and already pre-ordered :)

I honestly loved it. Platinumed it on PS4. Currently replaying on PS5. Loved what they built. EA really did a good job giving respawn a chance with such a huge IP. The combat wasn’t the best but it definitely left room for improvement and I’m excited to see what they can do. Other than that the worlds they built r great. You’re rewarded for exploration. And I loved the atmosphere they created. Story wise it’s awesome as well. Great character they created and greatly acted out as well.

I agree with most of what you said however I actually loved the combat and thought the story sucked as a Star Wars fan. A lot of canon contradictions and just cliche, bland, predictable generic trope type stuff we’ve seen done better a thousand times before. Same goes with the characters imo and Vader was really disrespectfully mistreated. But I loved the game so much from how it played and the environments so can’t wait for the second

I just finished the game today and I can agree on everything you said about the map and navigation as a whole. I legit had the same issue trying to use the map just to end up going in circles. I will admit I kinda sucked at the combat I had to lower the difficulty and there were times where I just wanted to never play again but at the same time I couldn't stop playing it I really did enjoy it.

Just wanna say this is the best game review I've ever seen. I agree with pretty much everything you have said about the game. I love the game, enjoyed it to the end. The 2nd play through though was definitely more frustrating as I noticed more how difficult it was to get from one place to another. The first play through the map baffled me and literally gave me headaches. The Map also was very, very, very unhelpful at times on all plays. But I love the game. Very enjoyable and well put into the star wars universe

One of my favorite games of recent years. Your critique seems very reasonable still, though. The issues you mention are definitely there (although I had personally no issue with the world being relatively empty or such, I felt it added to the atmosphere they tried for) and no, Fallen Order is not a very original game. Respawn definitely knew what they were doing when putting it together, they built a solid base upon with its successor can hopefully improve. I am looking forward to trying Survivor next year.

A very fair review. I played the game like three times and have found the same problems. I had a blast and it nailed the original feel of the star wars movies 4,5, and 6. I personally loved the combat and thought the fight mechanics are a fair trade off for less health. The enemies are challenging and force you to master the game. The monsters do have too much health and the maps are fun till you need to go through a third time. Jedi Survivor seems like it is fixing a lot of the issues and expanding its game play. Even if the new game did not improve, I would still buy the game for the amazing story and exciting action.

Me being primarily a SW fan I played the game for the story and lore, characters etc. To this day I haven’t completed 100% of it though, I think the level designs didn’t do it for me. I think I sabotaged myself watching Ep 3 so many times and making the saber dueling and choreography from the film the golden standard in my mind. Sometimes the boss battles killed the immersion for me and, honesty made me want to go play other SW titles like Jedi Academy. I did enjoy the different enemies and creatures, wish they changed the traversal a little bit though. The double jump kind of annoyed me sometimes, seeing as though Jedi can leap great heights.. I felt a little limited playing as Cal both through his abilities and the environment. Definitely excited to see how they approve upon the title though!

@@plugshirt1762 The poor exploration, pretty bland story (for anybody on the crew not named Cal or Merrin), and parade of bugs are my biggest gripes. I couldn’t summarize my issues with the story in less than a paragraph, but I found it very frustrating how little development Cal got until almost the very end of the game. I also use the word “hate” pretty loosely, I don’t think it’s a 0/10 experience, I just don’t think it’s the best game in the Star Wars franchise like a lot of people have claimed. Like you said, it was still pretty solid and enjoyable, but it was brought down by some of its lower moments.

@@saltyshrimppasta personally I haven’t gotten around to playing many other Star Wars games lauded as the greatest so I’m not too sure how they compare. But yeah the exploration was pretty bad and the story was just passable but I went into expecting a souls game with a Star Wars coat of paint and it pretty much delivered on that so the combat was pretty fun. The story isn’t great or anything but it has its moments and overall is just about average. Personally I’m expecting the sequel to have some slight improvements but nothing that actively changes the status quo it’s established so I’m not exactly rushing to play it at launch but I’ll check it out one day

I actually thought the 3D hologram map was one of the best maps I've ever used in a game. It was useful enough that i I could plan my route, but it was vague enough that I still got that feeling of exploration instead of just placing a waypoint and walking towards a floating icon on the screen. I guess not everyone will jive with a 3D model but for me it was great (and also felt very star wars).

Started my first playthrough on Grandmaster ( finished another Darksouls 3 run a day before Release of fallen Order ) and I hated the swarming Zabraks on Dathomir. One of my biggest plus Points for that Game was the Lack of fast travel actually. Made it feel much more realistic, involved in discovering and the Maps weren't to big, especially If you made your lootruns at the end of the game before the finale. I always saw the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne as games that wouldn't be accessible to people like me, a pretty casual gamer. But after I beat this game on Master difficulty, I decided to give Grandmaster a go. I beat that without excessive issues. I've since beat DS3, just still haven't gotten to beating Midir. Just finished the game (Xbox One). I can tell this was made for next gen because the performance issues are constant and made combat thoroughly unenjoyable with unresponsive button inputs and some questionable decisions with the controller layout. As for the characters, I really like the development and range of characters I encountered. Although Cal and BD-1 were the only characters I formed any attachment with for the first half of the game. The moment the antagonist took off the helmet I stopped taking them seriously and started wondering if there was another antagonist to be revealed later. Frankly I enjoyed the villain encounters on Dathomir more as I feel like a lot of intrigue of the 2nd sister had diminished by that point. Elements of the story I really enjoyed, especially the battle on Kashyyk and the journey of certain characters. However it felt odd how focused the story was on Cere since she took a back seat for most of the game. There were times near the end where I felt like Cere should have been standing where Cal was since his story pretty much concluded after Dathomir. I liked the open world aspect of the game, the exploration was one of my favourite parts of the game. However not being able to teleport made the game a slog at parts, especially when going between Zeffo and Kashyyk for the story. It felt like the devs wanted to add filler to pad the game out which most of the time made it difficult to get invested in the story. Despite the promise the game has, I can't rate the game any more than 5/10 for how abysmal the frame rate, stuttering issues and bugs were. It should have never been released on the previous gen.

As someone who's played through it a countless number of times and 100% completed it once, my only issue was the lack of content, yes the story is really good and pretty much 20 hours for it isn't bad, but there just isn't a lot to do after beating the story, there are a few places you can go that you didn't have to in the campaign which are quite cool but not a lot. What I want to see in survivor is: -side quests -A couple planets that you can go to which aren't a part of the main story -Bigger maps (newest trailer definitely indicates that) -Maybe a planet with an arena where you can go to level cal, get new customisation options as rewards and obviously test your skills (I know they eventually kind of added one in the first game but it wasn't very good, they need to make it actually useful to go there, maybe even introduce it in the campaign but you can go back there afterwards) -Populated areas where you get a lot of those side quests after beating the first game it just feels dead going back and playing it after completion, there isn't much point. That is my main issue that needs to be addressed

For the rest, I gues I'm good reading maps XD And I didn't mind going back that much at the end, I mean, in my second playthrough I wanted to 100% everything (It was a NG+ playthrough so few things were left), and at the start I was daubting about going that back into the Kashyyk and Dathomir map, but I went anyways and realized it wasn't as big as I though for some reason. I'm in my third playthrough this time is GrandMaster difficulty and I'm trying to get everything again, this time not missing anything. It would be satisfying if I can end the game again but at 100% with no need of going back hehe I can't wait for Survivors, but I most likley won't be able to play it until December 2023 or something, because I play in the Xbox plataform.
