Pretty sure the Solar Beam and Flash Cannon explanations root from the fact that even if Cryogonal is a snowflake, it also kinda resembles a mirror. So the attacks may just be Cryogonal reflecting light, getting more of the "solar" and "flash" parts of the attack. Night Slash could be because its edges could be really sharp? SO it spins like a top and cuts you. As for poison jab... yeah, I have no clue about that one XD

Poison Jab is due to snow not being pure. Go outside with a glass cup and scoop some so-called clean snow, put it in the microwave, and watch the results. I ganrutee you will not be sticking your tongue out to catch snow ever again.

For the last point, I think it's really interesting how much typing can do so much for a Pokémon (maybe a video topic for another day?) Like yeah steel in general is fantastic but I find it fascinating how it really helped Cryogonal shine when it was otherwise completely outclassed
This vid came out whilst I was sat around trying to figure out how to use the mon on showdown, absolutely class timing. 14:12 you list Toxic on it's moveset but Cryogonal currently cannot use Toxic in any way in gen 9, it's a Home only move and even then we're not sure if it'll stay on the moveset if transferred over
Cryogonal could be interesting with Terastal - specially bulky in a solid speed tier that can go Tera Electric to give it 0 weaknesses and it gets bolt beam coverage with Ice Beam/Blizzard and Tera Blast. Basically, Tera Ice Regieleki at home. That bad phys def is still concerning, but in a meta where there's a ton of nasty special attackers running around it could be a pretty interesting albeit niche pick. Update: as of Jan 10 2023, Terastalization stands as-is and Cryogonal is in RU. Showdown is currently rolling out each tier month-by-month from the top down, so that may play a part in its temporary high tiering. Cryogonal didn’t get enough usage in December to justify it staying in UU.

I was absolutely not expecting that gen nine glow up! There's an example of that actually occurring FSG.
I'm thinking if I were to improve it I'd bump up it's HP to 100, then swap its attack and defense stats. Not the best, but still a good improvement
I don't think you're exactly right about the point at the start- about it not making sense for Cryogonal to learn certain moves, and if it seems that way then I think it's intentional. Game freak is using your intuition to suggest something unique about Cryogonal and I'd love to get into it more because I think it gets into an interesting point about Pokemon Biology. So first off, why I think it makes sense that Cryogonal can learn a lot of beam moves such as Ice Beam, Solar Beam, Hyper Beam, and Flash Cannon. The last one may seem a bit contentious, but if you look at how Flash Cannon has been depicted in the anime it's always been a Beam-type move. Basically, I think this is Game Freak saying that something about Cryogonal makes it uniquely good at learning Beam Type moves- even ones you'd think an Ice-type pokemon wouldn't be able to learn. Which I think is a super cool way to add uniqueness to a Pokemon and subtly world build using the game mechanics. As to why it can learn a move like Poison Jab, well, why can Arbok or Gastly? What are they Jabbing with? What about Pinoco or Fortress for that matter- Pokemon with similar shape compositions to Cryogonal that also learn Poison Jab. See, a lot of times with Pokemon I think the moves are more like vague descriptions of what's happening rather than literal moves that a Judo Master would teach you- like an Arm Triangle. Let's just ignore the fact that they are literal move tutors in the game for a bit and hear me out. Basically, I think all that's required for a Pokemon to learn Poison Jab is the ability to coak an extremity in poison- either through natural or telekinetic means- and then quickly strike and pull back, a jab if you will. I think Cryogonal meets all those requirements, so to me, it makes sense that it can learn Poison Jab. Now, this is where we get into a lot of interesting biology implications. For example, if these are the only requirements for a Pokemon to be able to learn the move, then why are there so many Pokemon that meet the requirements but don't learn the move? I think there are a couple of interesting explanations that would potentially get into Evolutionary biology and it probably has something to do its innatenaite ability to learn Acid Armor. You can also get into regional revolutionary biology from there to explain why certain Pokemon learn new moves and lose the ability to learn new ones in different regions. All of that is quite a bit out of my depth though, but I think it's a super interesting topic of discussion and I'd love to see *someone* get into more one day. All this to say, I know it was just a little blurb at the start, but it makes a lot more sense if you think about it a bit!
Honestly always loved cryogonal, I’d love to see it get a unique move or maybe a regional variant if not an evolution.
You should do clawitzer next :D
I watched a Let’s Play of Black where the guy caught a Cryogonal for his team, and it was able to take a Fire Blast from the Hydreigon that you fight at the end. It had red health and got burned, but it survived enough to use Light Screen.
fun fact about obscure side grades of metagames! cryogonal was actually viable in mnm ag due to its speed tier (makes it the fastest sheer cold user) while also having spin recover AND a sheer cold immunity. you may say alolan ninetails is faster which it is BUT can alolan ninetails recover? or spin? didnt think so
You know that FSG has changed A LOT when his Typhlosion video talked about how sad it was that it was in RU in gen 5 but this video talks about Cryogonal being really good in RU as a very positive fact
@samamies88
Жыл бұрын
Could be either because channel has matured to understand wider array of meta tiers or maybe its because Typho was compared to Charizard (which was often on higher tiers) while Cryo got compared to other ice types (which rarely compete well) - so one was outperformed thus in sad state and another did better than their type generally which is seen as an good thing?

Kyurem's morning cereal
I can't imagine the re-remake of Dragonite video, knowing it got banned to Ubers as of this moment.
Flash cannon and solar beam could be from how Cryogonal is a floating snowflake, to where it can kind of reflect/absorb light so it is able to use moves likes those but not in the same way as Pokémon such as Venasaur and Aggron. While night slash could be from how Cryogonal can spin its body very quickly and can cut an opponent from that method.
Well, as for why it can use certain moves; Night Slash - it has sharp edges, so it can cut Solar Beam - it is reflective, thus it can manipulate light and therefore can use Solar Beam Flash Cannon - same reason as above, except it’s a Steel-type move this time
Poison jab and night slash I don’t really know why it learns, but for solarbeam and flash cannon I suspect it has to do with a phenomenon called “snow blindness.” UV rays from the sun get reflected off the snow, causing damage to the eyes and can temporarily confuse/blind someone. This is especially common in areas where the air density is lesser, such as in the mountains and tundras where Cryogonal live.
I Love Cryogonal's Voice in the Anime
I really want to see in like 3-5 years a video about Gholdengo, i wonder how thst would be.
one thing FSG did not mention, is that if you give cryo assault vest and invest even a decent amount into special defense, you can like 2 specs fire blast from chandelure and if you tera into fire with similar stats with tera blast fire you can wall goldengho

I remember Cryogonal from being in Chuggaconroy's team on Pokémon White!
I have always been a fan of Cryogonal, and knowing that in early gen 9,it is at UU for the time being, makes me happy
I’m still wondering if this is the year you’ll finally tackle Landorus. The question is, how will you tackle it? Will he be grouped with the other Forces of Nature? Or with the other members of CHALK? (Including a Kangaskhan remake video?)
Hard to get used a lot when weak to stealth rocks and only one defensive resistance. Getting introduced in Gen 5 the generation known for weather and power creep hurt too
As a genius thing though, this pokemon is bonkers in gen 9 with Terra electric. An absolute unsuspected destroyer of ou that has been slept on
I see it as the special version of avalugg, but as spinner, i prefer cryogonal since makes better use of terastalization and recover thanks to its speed, and if you use snow weather it can take some physical attack with it doubling def now, of course avalugg becomes a brutal body presser under snow with tera fight, but being hazard removal its main job, levitate and speed get the win for me, also recover is way more useful in a fast mon and allows for not using boots since spikes don't affect it anyways and if you force a switch out u can take 2 turns of leftovers recovery and even swap recover for protect (thus getting 3 turns recovery and minimizing rocks damage)
I can't explain the others, but I think that Solar Beam is Cryogonal functioning like a magnifying glass to focus the sun's light, and it's something similar for Flash Cannon.
When I was younger I always thought cryogonal was a cyclops. The black in between the two blue dots always seemed like it’s eye to me
Yes! How Good Was How Good Was vids are back in roll
