The round mound of rebound, Chuck is an amazing guy. Never pretentended to be more than a ballplayer, constantly downplaying his role model status throughout his career. Never won a ring, but the man is a champion in my eyes. Holds no grudges, blames no one, just happy to be Chuck. We could all learn from his example

Long arms and quick twitching muscles allowed him to jump twice while the next player is just landing from jumping once. Charles also was a master at reading where the ball was going after hitting the rim. He went after rebounds among the tress compared to players waiting for the ball to fall their way.

I had the privilege of meeting him when I worked at Crunch Fitness in Atlanta. It was after he retired. He showed up one day with a trainer to prepare for a comeback (which didn't end up happening). At 295 and, in his words losing a pound a day, he did some weights for awhile then he'd take on all comers at 1-on-1 for an hour or so. We had some decent players as members. I was not one. I sat under the basket and watched. It was hard to believe such a big man could be so quick and so graceful. He was very nice to everyone. I got my picture taken with him. He came for a month or so, then he was gone.

To anyone who didn't see the man play back in the day: There have been few people able to take complete control of a game. Chuck was one of them. When he was in the zone, there was no doubt that he was gonna be the one to decide the game. Sometimes, it seemed like he got every rebound, made every shot, ran every single break. The only detriment to his career is that there was this one guy who did all of that, but just a tiny bit better. I loved him as a player, I love him now, because he brings that much needed down-to-earth attitude of a (former) absolute elite superstar to every conversation he partakes in. Now, would you say Barkley was a great rebounder? Not me. He grabbed rebounds at a rate expected for a power forward. Most people would say rodman got rebounds comparable to Barkley but Barkley scored too. But, if you look into gameplans, matchups, and deeper than basic big 5 box stats... Barkley doesn't compare to the worms abilities. Career games with over 20 rebounds Charles barkley 54 Dennis rodman 158 Total career games played Charles barkley 1,073 Dennis rodman 911 Rodman performed at a high level on three times as many games as Charles did with 10% less chances to do so. And on the 90s bulls, rebounds were a lot harder to come by than on a team with Charles barkley.

For a player of his height and bulk he had INCREDIBLE agility and hops combined with a motor that never seemed to wear down. And watching Sir Charles go end to end on a fast break was something to see!! Without question he's one of the top 50 NBA players of all-time--and I might go as high as top 30.

@Alix Anthony I will take jabs. Barkley's per game stats are better than Duncan's. And Tim Duncan was gifted with playing for the Spurs.

Charles held the Sixers down for years. I’m from Philly.. I saw all those Sixers games during late 80s and 90s. Barkley and Mike were my guys!

The 93 finals was the best I've ever seen in my life, no joke. Sir Charles was one of the best players in my life time.
