    If only devs stopped using XInput for controllers that is included with DirectX and something else, like SDL2's Input handling or Steam Input. By default anything that isn't part of Microsoft's product it will use the old DirectInput and since majority of devs use XInput, any controller that isn't Xbox ones will not work.

  • @KayX291

    @KayX291

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Иосиф Виссарионович Сталин For starters, SDL2 contains basic stuff for making a software that can be expanded further. SDL2's input handling from what i gather handles the keyboard, mouse, joystick etc. But the real deal here is that when it comes to gamepads it supports any controller while following the Xbox's button layout. If you run a game that uses SDL2 with Dualshock 4 plugged in, it will immediately work. Whereas with a game that uses XInput, it'll absolutely refuse to work at all. If a specific gamepad does not work in SDL2, you can actually configure it on your own and use its profile (or even better, send the profile to the SDL2 devs themselves so in next release it'll be immediately ready)

    It's cool to see people realizing that gyro is incredibly useful but unfortunately this controller still has the dual thumbsticks whereas a SC has a proper trackpad surface (oriented in a way that the thumbs can be properly used with it). The latter is way better for any game where flicking and quick viewport changes are the norm (i.e. any 1st person game). Aiming can be done with gyro on either.

    I just got the dualsense today. Compared to the DS4, the D-pad and the face buttons feel less tactile. I think the reason they dampened the buttons is so the built-in mic doesn't pick it up. Other than that, the L1 and R1 buttons have no pretravel so that might be an improvement. And the L3 and R3 clicks are the same.

    It isn't 0 vibration (just like if you use a dualshock 3 or 4), the controller will vibrate but pc games don't support the newer, more precise vibrations that the dualsense is capable of, or not yet at least. So yeah, your controller will vibrate just as any other controller that has a rumble pack would.

    I got the PS5 controller mainly for Steam. It currently does not rumble at all, so no vibrations (even if you set it up as both PS4 or Generic Gamepad controller type through Steam). Most likely it will have the basic support that the PS4 controller got, just need to wait for drivers from Sony & Steam. I hope but am highly skeptical that the PS5 controller will get full DualSense functionality for PC gaming, whether via Steam or not.

    Hey Alex. You mentioned your PC to TV setup. I've always ran with both consoles instead of a PC because of the price difference. Now that we are getting multiple versions of each console in a single generation (Xbox had 3 and PS had 2 last generation), that price gap between consoles and PC has dropped considerably. I'm dropping xbox this gen for a pc since it has access to those games. I'm planning my new game room now and am curious to know your setup. I'm a couch gamer that will be playing most games on my TV but will still jump to the pc for some games, random editing and miscellaneous other things. Any feedback you could provide would be helpful. And, as always, thanks for your honest opinions on all things gaming.

    The best purchase I have ever made for my setup, was this year. If you can afford a 4k 120hz TV (real 120hz, watch out for fake cheap ones) you will never never want to go back after PC gaming on a TV at that fluidity. So yea, 4k 120hz TV is the ultimate thing you need if you play action oriented games and want to chill on a couch.

    The price gap between PC and console hasn't gotten smaller... it's reversed. You used to be able to build a PC with better specs than a console for the same price as the console itself, but now you can't. PS5 has 2080ti graphics(comparably) and tech that hasn't yet released on PC. It takes more than a grand to build something with similar specs as the PS5. For the first time in history consoles are getting things before PC, it's kinda crazy.

  • @anubrakahn2970

    @anubrakahn2970

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@XiaolinDraconis The gap is less than it used to be when one console lasted 8 years. Now the expectation is to buy at least 2 consoles for each brand in that same time frame to stay up to date. Meaning, a PS5 and a PS5 Pro and an XBox Series X and an XBox Series X Pro (or whatever they call it). Yes, there's value in trading/selling the consoles but still an upcharge (and hastle). This assumes both consoles only have one upgraded version. Last generation, one console brand had 2 upgrades. This doesn't account for the memory. These consoles will require $200-$250 per TB of SSD storage after you download about 8 games and save some clips or whatever. If I could play PS exclusives on PC (without waiting 3 years), I'd drop Playstation, too. I think, over the next 7-8 years (typical console generation) , both console brands with upgrades and memory will be damn close to the cost of a similarly performing PC but without all the customization, PC games, household utility and storage capacity.

    @@XiaolinDraconis the ps5 is nowhere near a 2080ti, it is comparable to a 6600 AMD when considering raw computing power. Ordered one today after reading about Sony working on proper Linux support. Hope the reports about poor durability on the triggers are a bit over-exaggerated, but other than that im quite pleased with what Sony has brought to the table this gen, as far as controllers are concerned. I have little doubt that once the drivers have matured a bit, this is goina become the go-to device for use on your RetroPie station(and Linux gaming in general ofc). Now, with that being sayd, i still prefer the asymmetric layout of the XBox controller, BUT: With no gyro and accelerometer MS really missed the mark this time. ...i guess you really cant have it all. Even my trusty ol Steam Controller has its shortcomings, but were slowly getting there. :p
