In this episode of Cars from Japan Reviews, presented by @carsfromjapan4601, we drive a 2008 R35 GT-R. This one has a late model front end, but underneath is a 16 year old car. How does it stack up to today's performance cars? How has the might Godzilla aged? Let's find out.

Yes please do a R35 on the channel. Start with how to maintain it, then fixing common problems, then small bang for buck mods. Then suspension and brakes, then power
15 years already is absurd to think about. How time flies, still a great car

If Nissan was like Nissan from the late 80s to 2000 we would be up to the R38 by now

Really good to hear your positive thoughts on the GT-R. Owned my 2010 plate for over 10 years now, and still worth more than I paid for it too. 600hp is enough for my needs. Excited to see your forthcoming R35 journey 👍

I love my 08 R35, the clunks/ noises and general feel of the car make it more authentic and raw. I agree I really don’t think you can get anything near as fun for the money, it’s in its own league. As for reliability, I have never had an issue with mine and have owned for 3 years, it’s serviced and looked after, that’s all that matter. JustJap are the go for everything R35 🤙🏽

I think it just depends how aggressive you are as a driver. I’ve seen them last forever. But I also have a close friend that’s built 3 transmissions now because he drives it like he stole it. I do the same, reasons why I bought a dodge viper instead. I knew I was gonna flog on the car all the time and I want zero issues.

When you get your 35 It might be fun to pick up the cheapest one on the market? And then just do the most budget mods slowly just to demonstrate like you have with your 32 To bring it up progressively After all you have done and driven so many 1000++ hp cars Would be quite an exercise to go down the budget rabbit hole Either way what ever you do it will end up being one of the best GTR s around given how much pride enthusiasm and passion you put in to every car you build or get involved with Cheers
Wow thanks Andrew, this made me feel old... But great video as usual.
Hell yeah!! Excited to see what you do with a r35 GTR
I'm also hoping to get into one by the end of 2024. Can't wait to see where it goes mate. Looking forward to it
This is awesome can't wait for you to get one. Long time coming! Way better than the 400
I'm speechless. Absolute hit of a car. A classic already
I live in Japan and I had an 08 Premium FBO for 7 years and I put 140,000km on it. It was a great car.. So good that I sold it at the same price I bought it and got a 2017 GT-R Premium Gunmetal with The Rakuda Tan (orange interior). I put 30,000 km on it and I had zero repairs so far. I have a Cayenne daily and besides cayenne being quiet I can't say that the suspension is much more comfortable than GT-R.. All people that complain about it being stiff are probably old people with back issues and hemorrhoids. I am itching to get a turbo S, but I like to drive with my kids in the back and do long road trips so there's no other car that can replace it when it comes to practicality, reliability and wow factor..
Would be super keen to see you get an early one and see a build up with gradual upgrades like you usually do. 🔥
I have a “very” high mileage 09 gtr at 110xxx miles. My car is for sure a drivers car. Alot of complaints people have about the cba are true for sure. However, if you dont spend the money on fixing it or upgrading it, it will always be a complaint. I think andrew is the perfect owner for an 09. Some one who will take the time and money to upgrade and refine the car. I can say we look forward to your new addition!
Since much hasnt changed, it makes the aftermarket platform so good, probably one of the best if not the best platform right now in terms of options. Love it
Really looking forward to the R35 project! A bucket list car for most JDM fans in their 30s and 40s!
Yes! Looking forward to it.

@@DukeNuggets69 the early JDM cars had some issues with circlips but they were addressed very quickly. Anything from late 08 onwards is fine. My 2010 car was pushing 675bhp and 630lbft for 60,000 miles without issue. My current car is 780bhp and 645lb/fr without issue for 45,000 miles. Keep the gearbox under 700lb/ft and you’re good- keep the stock rods under 650lbft and you’re also good. Both cars have done lots of track time too.

What happened to the green wrapped r34 with vg35 engine you did?
Zf8 speed swap would be epic for this. I wonder if it's possible.
I think the timing and price is right!
R32/R33 or R35 for this money, i am leaning towards the R35 now.
The VR38 is a big V6. Stroke it to a 4.4, and it's just huge.
try a Stelvio Quad on a country road.....or turning in tight spaces - not so plush either.
They could sell R35 GTRs in the next 10 years and it will still be relevant. The aftermarket is quite advanced for this car, it's not that hard to get reliable 700+hp from them.
@davothegreat9990

Definitely wont be easy may not be possible but with all the money spent on the r35 platform im surprised no one has tube chassis a r35 and throwing in a r32 transfer case so they can keep the awd and get rid of that GR6 DCT.

The Vr38 is the holy grail 🤌🏻
What’s amazing about the car is normal street driving it feels planted but you can feel the weight in the turns and braking but when you get them on a track it has a very different handling characteristics. It turns and brakes like a car with much less weight. That being said I still prefer my evo mr when it comes to handling, for a car that’s nearing 20yrs old there still isn’t a car that handles like an evo.
Should I pull the trigger on a base r35 2008 or a merc c63 507 edition? Around the same budget, cant decide😅

Could not agree with the video more. Price to performance ratio, nothing out there even comes close to an older model GTR.
Launch Control was not a good idea when R35 came out because the engagement was as hard as a neutral drop. One of the model years, Nissan updated the launch control to put less strain on the transmission that looks more like most cars that has one.

Stock lol except for the downpipe he mentioned and exhaust. Over 3K depending. Then there’s the 20K bodykit upgrade, along with wing and carbon fibre 😅 tune. If anyone can afford a car that’s over 100K and just survive, then I’d highly recommend a better car than this. The 2012 to 2017 GTR are overpriced in Australia. Most cars that are close to this price will not hold value for 5 more years. All the gtr 32,33,34,35 hold their value pretty well. Yes for the money you can get a better car, but few years down the line the other car will be worth way less than a gtr and that is proven for decades now

My comment was to the guy that can afford a 100K car and just survive. If you want an expensive car that’s versatile and holds value? Buy a landcruiser.
