How good is the latest version of ChatGPT? | BBC News
OpenAI has unveiled its latest version of ChatGPT - called GPT-4o.
It is faster than earlier models of the chatbot and has been programmed to sound conversational in its responses to prompts. It will gradually be rolled out to all users of ChatGPT, including free-users.
OpenAI say they've tested it with external experts and will continue to mitigate risks such as bias, fairness and misinformation as they're discovered.
On the latest Artificial Intelligence: Decoded, BBC News explores OpenAI’s latest moves.

Saying that someone killed himself because of chatting to an AI is like saying that someone killed himself because he drinks water or went to the market.

How does politics, media, organization, the society come all together to address this problem! No instead we are blaming the technology which only amplifying a problem which is already there

Sounds like a video game violence argument, a nutjob killed himself over a chatbot, a chatbot did not lead him to kill himself it was his own folly. None of the big AI models are meant to do anything except whatever it is you want it to do, anyone using it to replace relationships is using it for that, but it is not its primary goal.

You have a point but I'm convinced this - suicide related to relationships with AI - will become a thing that regularly happens and will be reported upon/studied. On the other hand, people will develop relationships with AI that, like games, benefit their mental health... and comments sections on stories about such suicides will be filled with the sentiment "but my relationship is positive"
@Yottenburgen
8 күн бұрын
@@rik8993 The nice thing is with 3 of the big 4 players are developing it, they're all respectable and you have to try and break them to get any extreme negative response. (Gemini is going a bit schitzo because Google is somehow failing to train it, but they are at least the farthest behind in personable AI) My point being is if people get reliant on AI like they do videogames, they aren't going to be told to kill themselves or other wretched comments. However getting reliant like that is still a negative, despite that one positive facet. I could see someone killing themselves because they couldn't keep up their subscription, they are struggling financially and now they just lost one of their emotional vices.
The Belgium man clearly had mental health issues. There's a loneliness epidemic right now, and it's only getting worse, maybe this will help with that rather than it simply be a doom and gloom scenario?
@illgoat

People need to ask why there's a loneliness epidemic. Technology is the cause, AI technology isn't going to make it any better, just like how people thought social media will reduce loneliness, but hasn't. Deal with the root cause. Create interaction groups where lonely people can physically meet, interact and work on their social skills.

Right, more specifically, a male loneliness epidemic. Women already have wide support groups and society allows them to be vulnerable without social repercussions, but doesn't for men. Every time i get vulnerable with women, they ghost me or take way longer to respond. Honestly, i have far better empathetic conversations with GPT-4 than an actual woman.. atleast i don't have to fear it judging me or stop responding me.

@@illgoat No, i open up to anyone who i believe is closer and can help provide support regardless of gender. Forget strangers, they hardly ever have the patience or empathy to provide support or help, so I'm not sure why you mentioned them. In general, people who don't know you are unlikely to provide support. But coming back to people I'm close with - If I'm in a relationship, I'd expect my partner to be the closet person with whom i can share my vulnerable moments, my fears, insecurities, hardships etc. A mature woman would provide emotional support, atleast that's what i learned from my mother who has been my dad's life support during his vulnerable moments. But modern women quickly lose interest/feelings if we show any sign of vulnerability because that's "weakness" in their eyes. Lack of empathy is the main reason. When my partner or someone I'm interest in shows vulnerability, my feelings for them grows, not reduce because I'm highly empathetic. Empathy is the primary trait that ensures long term stability, which is sorely lacking with modern women and also the reason for majority of divorces/breakups. Do you think its a coincidence that vast majority of breakups/divorces in the west are initiated by women? Almost every breakup i see in my social circle was initiated by women, over trivial reasons, even relationships that were past 5 years. I've known relationships were girls that cheated or brokeup after the guy cried or expressed vulnerability in some way. What about guys who hardly have relationship success? Do you expect them to constantly share their problems with their equally perpetually single male friends? How is that even helping? When the source of those men's relationship problems are women, logically, it makes sense to share them with women, expecting them to empathize so that they can self reflect on their choices/behaviors and change them. That's what any reasonable person would do. But anyways, i learned my lesson. Never again.

There isn't any real threat, people who are simply just jealous or envious of Ai being more skillful or talented than them is trying to sabotage. Ai is more of an assistant really. I understand why people are freaking out because this is something new we're inviting in our private lives. Once people embrace it, uses it they'll see the benefits of it. About "relationship" or companionship, AI is more safe than let's say a human in the room with you don't you think? Let's say a woman won't get raped, violated, physically and emtionally abused you'll come out of that room safe and whole. Plus, there is a miriad use cases for AI not just for sex, flirting or dating. Who would want to cheat on their partners if they really wanted? Is it AI's fault or humans? AI is safe. Let's look at criminality around the world, who s the main villain in these stories? Ai or humans? A social experiment question that's around a lot in social media these days is "if you were to be alone in the room who would you prefer to be with? An AI or a human? The answer says it all.
AI should be a better vehicle for getting from A to B, not to replace the actual 'A' and 'B'

I find it hard to talk to people because of my mental health. But when I talk to Ai I learn, I get interactions with something that can talk back and keep my mind engaged unlike a pet and I love cats and dogs but they don't talk to you (if they did my mental health is getting worse and I should be locked up) pets keep you company but there are limitations. But with AI it's so much more. When you talk to an AI it talks back in a language you understand and it can it can give you company when you have none. This technology should be appreciated not judged. We live in a society where a lot of elderly people are alone this is the exact technology that could help them. I'm in my 30s and I'm alone and it's helped me so much.
I wish they focus on intelligence rather than emotions of AI!

If your Y word error rate is above the X word error rates of the AI one day, you’ll deserve to be fired! That said! interprefy: Too much hype! Too little to advance the state of the art of reducing high Word Error Rates (WER) percentages in underrepresented language pairs in the so called “80” supported languages! Next!
It scrapes content from the internet, makes a stew of it, and serves it up to us assuming we have a less than average intelligence that will let it get away with this.

The Belgium man didn’t commit suicide earlier this year. It was over a year ago. If I knew this, then definitely the people on the news talking about it should too.
I think many people are mischaracterizing the "AI Dating" thing, from as i understood it the idea is akin to that one Black Mirror episode. The AI would know what you like and dont like and then it would go and "date" other people's AIs, then it comes back to you and it gives you a list of what it thinks will be the best match for you based on the simulated date so you can then go on to the real date. I think people are misrepresenting it as ending dating altogether. Is that a good idea? I dont know.

I feel another possible issue is some people may possibly lose their ability to think, if they are turning to the ai too much and possibly not using their own brain and if the system possibly goes down their possibly in crisis, possibly. Ai is a tool and should possibly be used responsibly as a tool, I feel.
