    Huge fan of RJ, has all the physical tools and upside his biggest weakness is efficiency was at 45% Fg in college now 43% in the league. He & Thibs need to recognize he can’t shoot unless it’s crunch time and play to his strengths of slashing and playmaking fastbreak is his best weapon

    He has poor touch and his shot mechanics are very stiff and all over the place.. This holds him back the most. He also gets bad tunnel vision and misses easy plays but he is improving slowly in this area.

    well said, but he can't shoot in crunch time either. all in all he is just not a good shooter, and he's had plenty of time to figure some things out. obi developed a corner 3 in one off season. i'm a huge RJ fan too but he's slowly becoming harder and harder to root for. he's also in defensive decline

    Teams need 3-point shooting, especially from their role players. RJ should be expected to provide that. That's what Brunson and Randle - who are much better players than RJ - need. RJ's game has weaknesses all over. He can't shoot, he doesn't pass the ball, he doesn't defend, and he has well below-average shot creation skills. He doesn't have the skill set the be effective as a featured player or a role player. He's not good on either side of the ball. So what is he?

    RJ Barret is a classic high-volume, low-percentage one-dimentional scorer. His best skill is slashing to the rim and he uses his good size for a wing, solid built, and good handles. The issue is with efficiency. One is that he lacks burst of speed that so many great slashers and scorers at the rim have like Ja or Edwards or LaVine. He is SLOW at getting up and this causes him to miss at the rim or get blocked because defenses have time to react to his drives. He is good at drawing contact and getting to the line, though. But even that skill is diminished by his low % shooting from the FT. His outside shot is also suspect - he has limited range on the 3 - he needs to be right at the line and he often jumps a bit forward to make his shots and his shooting is extremely inconsistent. He can go on 20-30 game slump shooting under 30% from 3 and then go and shoot 40% for 20-30 games. But inconsistency is always a negative. And his defense is outright bad - his lateral quickness is bad and his instincts are bad. He somewhat mitigates it by sheer effort. He really wants to play good defense but he lacks physical gifts for it. And he has a ton of confidence and positivity, which is generally a big plus. His court vision is kind of limited but his rebounding, for a wing, is very good. SO, overall, he is very flawed and I doubt more experience will mitigate most of his inherent deficiencies. I think he can become even more craftier with his finishing around the rim, especially with his right hand and become even craftier at drawing fouls. But he will never be a guy with a good efficiency. And I don't see him really developing as a passer or a defender.

    He always attacked the rim and he is getting craftier at finishing with his right hand and drawing fouls. BUT there is only so much he can squeeze out of it. He lacks burst, so he cannot just elevate and dunk over guys like Edwards or Ja - he is always forced to be a very creative finisher and this results in a lot of blocked shots and point-blank misses. This will not really change with experience.

    Yea so basically his offensive is one dimensional due to the dependency of his dominant hand. He has to work on his handles, passing, and shooting range. That way the Knicks can open the floor up for Randle to do some more inside work instead of settling for threes.

  • @mrvk39

    @mrvk39

    Жыл бұрын

    He is, actually, doing pretty well finishing with his right if defenses overplay his left side. His handles are excellent. His issues are totally NOT what you describe. It's A. lack of burst off his first step - both on offense and defense B. Lack of speed on his elevation at the rim (he has no problem getting above the rim but he needs a long run up to it - if you watch him regularly you would see what I mean) and this limits his efficiency finishing at the rim - he misses or gets blocked A LOT and C. inconsistent shooting - all sorts of shooting - FTs, 3pt shot, mid-range. He can go through these 20-30 game slumps where he shoots 30% from 3 and then go on a 20-30 game run shooting 40%+ but overall he lets his team down with lack of consistency.

RJ had plenty of chances and he has work ethic and the right mentality.. but his physical limitations put a ceiling on him as a star.

    What does that have to do with him working on his game. I don't care if Coach tibbs gave Randall the green light, that don't mean you don't work on your game. RJ has regressed significantly since he's been in the lead, that has nothing to do with coaching, he's a grown man learn how to play basketball.

    RJ in my opinion, has not been 100% healthy for most of the year. Before he went down with that injury a few months back, in the ten games before he went down he was averaging 26 pts a game 6.2 boards and was shooting nearly 45% from three. Because I remember the last time he was playing this bad, it came out later that he'd been hurt and hadn't been really honest about it.

    Barrett has been frustrating to watch this year. since his rookie year, he's shown no improvement on any aspect of his game, at times he's looked worse. the team/coaching staff has to hold him accountable. its clear he hasn't worked on his game at all. this is basically his rookie year, part 4. his lack of awareness and lack of urgency is what's bothersome. i saw shades of this last year and i wanted him gone in the offseason. this reminds me of when Amare was still around and contributed nothing. its early, yes, but its time to move on.

Idk if it’s him putting on weight but dude can’t stay in front of majority of players. Also his offense hasn’t developed in the sense of his rookie year. Dude has no bag off the dribble and puts his head down on drives to the basket, at times it feels like he just wants a foul and doesn’t care to play make. He definitely needs to come back after this offseason a much better player because if he doesn’t it’ll show that the money they payed him was a dumb decision.
