Well, being an asshole about it, gold ore is mined. We call gold when it is 99.99% pure. We get the ore, take stuff away from it, add more stuff, take it away again, adding and subtracting things is called making. I add flour, sugar, and water... then make a cake. We do make make gold. But thats me nit picking.

Still blows my mind every time i think about it....gold, a hunk of polishable metal, is the standard on which we give value to all essential and non essential trade goods, something that we could easily live without....well not in the current technological era, but something that would have no bearing on living or dieing if it disappeared. Back in the day the value of trade goods was based on salt, or wheat, things that we absolutely CANNOT survive without....

Like someone said, its because it doesnt rust or form into oxides. Its actually one of the very few pure substances out there, especially to ancient people with rudimentary tech, and is relatively easy to isolate. Comparing it to other elements and substances, its super weird. Barring radioactive materials, I can only think of water being chemically weirder off the top of my head. No value? It did in ancient times, didnt rust or corrode, good for materials and items that you didnt want to deteriorate like money and container vessels. Its malleable, easy to form into shapes, it can e pressed to a thinkness of two atoms. Also, it just has a unique color. Human like shiney things, it exploits a evolutionary trait to like shiney things, usually things that shined or sparkled indicated water. It would actually be used more extensively but it is quite a rare material to come across on earth. Its value for its scarcity. A modern value, additional why it doest corrode, is it is the best conductor of electricity, thats why its used extensively in electronics.

In ancient times, people had a process for getting pure gold from rocks containing it. They started by using basic tools to dig out these gold-bearing rocks from the ground. Once they had the rocks, they crushed them into smaller pieces. This step was important because it exposed the tiny particles of gold that were trapped inside. To collect the gold, they used a method called "amalgamation." They mixed the crushed rocks with a liquid metal called mercury. This mercury stuck to the gold particles, making them easier to work with. When they heated this mixture, the mercury turned into vapor and disappeared, leaving behind the gold. Another technique was "smelting." They heated the crushed rocks to very high temperatures in special furnaces. This caused the gold to melt and separate from the other materials in the rocks. Sometimes, the impurities rose to the surface and could be skimmed off, or they formed a kind of waste material that could be removed. A more advanced process called "cupellation" involved melting the gold alongside another metal, usually lead. The lead combined with the impurities in the gold, leaving the gold in a purer state after the process. In their quest for accuracy, they also used "fire assay." This method involved mixing the gold with known amounts of other metals like lead and silver. By heating this mixture, they could determine how much gold was present based on how much of the other metals were absorbed.

Gold is an element in the periodic table created by natrual processes in the core of giant stars or supernovaes. God is not a magician! You've been watching too much Harry Potter

Is it just me or is gold overrated . I mean you can't eat or drink gold , you can't use gold to grow food , gold isn't used for construction of any important infrastructure . Gold just looks nice and its only real use is making corrosion proof power contacts for chips and electronics .

@scotthultin7769 exactly. Dead stars, or Supernovas, are purely hypothetical, though.
