Shielders have always been an only-zhongli deal, there has never been a pure shielder in serious meta conversation except for him. But with his status as "the shield archon" perhaps thats all we will ever get.

Don't sleep on Thoma & Layla's elemental application. Before I got c1 Neuv, Layla was amazing on the team to cause freeze and put out some damage herself with HP scaling dmg and HoD. Thoma ofc fits into Chevruse teams while Zhongli doesn't, and he activates burgeon. Zhongli hordes 90% of shield usage, but there are still other better options in some cases. If Hoyo wants to, there are still plenty of niches that can be done. We still don't have a single hydro shielder, and that's something Arrlechino, Lyney, or Nilou would LOVE. There's also room for shielders that provide other buffs at the same time. The best supports provide a secondary buff, and that would apply to shielders too. Attack speed buff, charge attack buff, cooldown lowerer... still waiting on something to buff physical. If hoyo can slap on a 75% team-wide damage buff to a support, they can buff anything.

Layla is almost as good and Noelle can tank a lot of dmg with her shield on herself

Layla is the most overrated 4 star, she just sheilds and does cryo, nothing else. Even when it breaks she can't generate any more energy and it's not enough for a solo sustain at c0 with diona being better.

This is why I think Baizhu is the overall best sustain, his seamless shield definitely helps with getting interrupted and has massive team wide heals with just his skill while also being dendro, one of if not the best element after hydro. He just provides so much comfort even pre furina imo

They did a lot to keep his shields from being fully comfortable though. It helps but you definitely feel not having a shield. His healing is so good that any mistakes are easily fixed, of course, but I have gotten smacked around a little bit even with his Q up. People also forget he can buff Dendro reactions, so depending on the team his damage contribution is better than people think. Also it's fun using him as the driver in Hyperbloom or something because this 50k brick of a dying man is doing acupuncture kung fu in spitting range and never paying for it.

​@@Uryvichk true, his shield is weak but its good for knockback resistance and he can apply decent amounts of dendro when it refreshes, besides his sustain helps make sure nobody dies and yeah, his buffs r pretty good, I might get him eventually for my alhaitham spread

Baizhu honestly feels like the best healer in the game. The hype people had for kokomi should have been given to him, because he makes corrosion feel like a joke with minimal field time, unlike Kokomi.

I dont see shield going down in demand. Even HP manipulating unit needed shield to not die accidentally. I still wishes for a off-field hydro shielder that also either heal or apply hydro.

Personally, I think Zhongli is now better than ever. He's got a ton of new viable teammates. Lyney, Arlechino, Nuevillette, Navia, Chiori etc. It's better than what he used to have. Previously his teams were kinda cope besides Tighnari, Ganyu and maybe Wanderer.

he does definitely have a lot more use-cases than before, i think ZL while he's usually always a side-grade or down-grade he is still very solid

I find Clorinde is better with Zhongli because she has a short damage window and getting interrupted isn’t the best, that also goes for Melt Ganyu. When I use a Zhongli or any shield it is not because they shield damage from my character but the shield gives interruption resistance.

Nice to have a picture of Zhongli arguably the most important character in Genshin. I love the cope, you can look at the statistic for him in Abyss and people can yapp how much they want he has been at the top tier since release and nobody is honestly close.

Thanks for mentioning the chiori/ZL geo core. I've been having a great time with it. Cleared the 1st half of floor 12 with chiori/zl/yae/tighnari. It was super comfy. 5 turrets, an auto tracking arrow, and a thicc shield.

Shielder's are always going to be valuable for a few fundamental reasons. First off damage prevention is better than damage mitigation. It doesn't matter if you're healer can max heal you from the brink of death if you get one shot. Before anyone says C6 Barbara or Qiqi I implore you to think about what you just said. Secondly the ability for shielders to let the player basically ignore having to dodge in favor of always being able to attack is a big upside. Having to dodge attacks especially in close quarters is going to be a bigger DPS loss than bringing a shielder. Even now with Furina's dominance there are still teams that opt for both a shielder and a healer together so that you can have the best of both worlds. Healing to offset Furina and shielding so that you can ignore having to dodge.

ngl these days defensive options need to do more than just healing or shielding this is kinda why qiqi is affected so badly Baizhu and Kokomi with their off field application. Kuki and Thoma in their respected dendro teams. Xianyun with her plunge buffs.

This bond of life mechanism is bringing back shielders

Wanderer must be by far the best case dor shielder use. With his long stagger time and terrible dash, I feel like the only thing saving him in a shieldless team is his range. But again, it's all Zhongli and noone else.

Honestly, I agree with this a lot! Even tho I find quite a few more uses with my Zhong Li, I also see myself using him less and less. I'm skill issued, so he's almost always a second run pick; I'm getting irritated cuz I'm dying a lot with my Al Haitham Kuki team? Time to slot him in somewhere.

If you’re a pyro main, you need a shield and this is coming from a Yanfei main (Yanfei, and Zhongli make for an amazing shield)

The design monetization meta: shielders today are used to prevent interruption, because characters are designed from day one to have an Achilles' Heel (interruption) alongside a pay to win solution (cons). Selling a con is more cost effective and easy than selling a brand new character that takes up a valuable team slot. The net is that Mihoyo can sell 4 characters + a con instead of 3 characters + a shielder. And if you follow HSR, you know this is the norm. Mihoyo releases every character now with arbitrary flaws that are removed the instant you swipe your credit card.

the Furina re run was so nice to me, i went from not having her to having c2 in 80 pulls

I need a good shielder in about half my teams. Skill issue due to chemo wrecking my hand eye coordination (I'm tumor free now, no worries). Everyone only talks about Zhongli, he is the only 5 star pure shielder but man, Layla is good too. If you can make a quick swap team with her, she rocks the house. I use her in co-op, where Zhongli is meh, and her shields are almost unbreakable. I think shielders will only find more uses as new units and playstyles emerge. Thanks for the video, Juice!

Yeah as a Yoi main, you're either playing glass cannon (double Hydro w/ Furina and Bennett) or playing it safe (with Zhongli/shielder). I do not use a shielder (my somewhat built C6 Yun Jin does not count btw) so I have to constantly dodge which is a DPS loss and a sacrifice to be met. At least Yun Jin's ATK SPD and DMG buff helps alleviate the pain. But then again, C6 4*s are not easily accessible.

actually I have my Furina in a team and there is always a shield because shielder and healers are perfect together in a team does anyone else think that or just me?

Still use zhongli today. I tend to not level some characters all the way and abyss 12 just one shots them lol. That's whete zhongli comes in. Also he keeps my arlecchino alive. Her burst is a dps loss and zhongli reduces how much I have to use her burst.

Zhongli's shield all by itself was good back during Inazuma arc but now the Fontaine legends break the shield really quickly which is to say that whole shield mechanic isn't that simple as it used to be. I used Arlecchino on bolide with Xinqui and thoma and I saw thoma's mini shield tank Liam's attacks, in other words the shield was regenerating faster than it was taking damage.

Both are valid, but I lean towards healer more As for Sigewinne, thare are some fun team comps she enables like hyperbloom Yae feat. Furina, but I think I won't go for her now. Maybe in Natlan she'll have a role to play... So instead I went for c2 Furina

All I'm saying is arlechino and clorinde would like to have a conversation about the use case of a healer in their teams

I think shielders will settle down with natlan if they keep adding life bound mechanic. If this happens, healers won't be able to do their job, which means furina will fall in those teams (I hope this not to happen beacuse I love furina but is a possibility)

As a shielder user🤣. Its mandatory and, o comfy. AyaRina freeze is what i run, Ayaka, Qiqi, layla, furina. Only ever using Ayaka burst

I love how despite being one of the strongest duo, Furina is into healers and Neuvi into shielders, Baizhu havers are just outsmarting the meta

As long as there's some players who refuses or too lazy to dodge, zhongli in particular will be on demand. It's a safety net for most casual players if a genshin content gets harder.

Here's 1 thing to think about, if u take too much damage and die then healers are worthless, your characters need to survive in order to be healed in the 1st place. Shields doesn't have that issue. So shields are better imo.

Frankly I use to think Zhongli was one of the best archons to have but after playing genshin for some time and learning a lot of ai manipulation playing keqing agrivate. He now feels like the weakest. I am a mobile player so I am prone to finger breaking but I’m more comfy having a lot damage uptime than I do having a shielder unless they bring something else than defense like Kiraras dendro app and surprising burst front load or Baihzus healing damage bonus and dendro. While I do think he’s good for those who don’t play abyss(or is a whale) those who just like to explore, or mono geo lovers. He feels less necessary in this age of the game.

I wanted her so badly that I whaled only to lose my 50/50 to Dehya I would’ve been somewhat ok with that if it was c3 dehya…

from start i play genshin, the only team i don't have healer in it is Arlecchino Edit: nah, ganyu have bennett in it

c6 zhongli can heal too. i wish i have him c6 :C
