06:50 You’re A More Well Rounded Person
08:11 You’re Not An Entitled Spoiled Brat
When you live a frugal life, you save a lot of money and cut waste; however, you also accidentally become a better person. When you choose to live this lifestyle, you develop habits and qualities that make you a better person. In this video, I share five different ways living a frugal life makes you a better person.
1. You’re More Down To Earth
In this day and age, many people only talk about superficial things that relate to consumerism and stuff. And although there is nothing wrong about this, the conversations are very empty and meaningless. When you choose to live a frugal life of less, you focus your life on real things and because of that you end up being more down to Earth. You end up having conversations with more substance.
2. You’re More Creative
When you live a frugal life, you end up having a bit more limitations whether that is with money or resources; however, these limitations force you to be more creative in life. Instead of paying someone for a product or service, you learn skills on your own or develop more creative hobbies, which allows you to live a richer life.
3. You’re Looking Out For The Environment
The majority of people talk about the importance of taking care of the environment; however, their actions say something completely different. Consumerism is very harmful to the planet because it takes a lot of natural resources to get your product. When you live a frugal life of less, you naturally consume less, which lowers your carbon footprint.
4. You’re A More Well Rounded Person
As I mentioned, limitations force you to be more creative in life, but they also make you become a more well rounded person. When you don't have an abundance of money and resources, you end up having to develop new skills or hobbies, and with that makes you more knowledgeable about a variety of different things.
5. You’re Not An Entitled Spoiled Brat
Our consumerist culture that focuses on convenience and abundance has turned many people into entitled spoiled brats. Generally, the more people have, the less grateful they become; however, when you live a frugal life of less, you have a better understanding of what you do have and it makes you more grateful.

I've just been feeling so bad lately because I feel so intellectually lonely. I don't want to look down on others but I really struggle to find people I can have meaningful and interesting conversations with. I studied so much, I'm so curious, I like to learn, create and go deep into anything. That's why I watch youtube a lot, I can find creators similar to me. It's stimulating. Loved the vid as always (:

@@aegisfate117 yeah it certainly depends on the environment too. When I was in university studying philosophy I could find people to really talk to. Now it's become much more difficult! I usually enjoy talking with older people now, sometimes I find someone with an interesting background.

Definitely touched an aspect that a lot of people never get: the role of the consumer in the environment. Unaware people go around blaming governments and companies for the environmental damage but they never realize that perhaps they consume too much. It’s pathetic how obvious this is and how not so many realized it.

I totally get the creativity. I married a creative person. He was the grandson of a multimillionaire. The lawyer took the money and gambled it away. The family found out and it became a huge legal thing. The lawyer ended up committing suicide, so my husband grew up middle class. I met him on a blind date. He was a nice quiet guy. I grew up poor. He was used to his parents spoiling him. I was used to saving. We smacked heads for years. I introduced him to frugality and minimalism. You should see our house. It's unique because of our creativity. We sit comfortably financially because we met in the middle. My husband rewired our electricity and set up our new heat system. He figured out how. He said penis. He hehe hehehe...Beavis was weird and quoted a lot.

You are hands down one of my favorite people on KZread. You help me remember that I don’t have to feel bad about not having a bunch of money and nice stuff. Yes it’s harder work, but it’s so much more fulfilling! For example, I can’t afford to buy a leaf blower, so I will continue to sweep my sidewalks after I mow. I guess this is making me more well rounded 😁

I wish Jeff Bezo would spend money on low income housing. For example, Mitchell Lama where people buys into a low cost co-op. Spend it on animal shelters, and food banks, instead of his 🖊️ rocket. He would be a much better person, someone who is admirable. While he is at it, pay his employees better.

Good morning, Mr. Austin Williams. I loved this video and I'd like to comment on #5: You’re Not An Entitled Spoiled Brat! I know a woman who used to work part-time at a grocery store. She could not make ends meet and often complained about how entitled shoppers treated her rudely. She was shy and meek. But a year or two ago she won over a million dollars and is now no longer working at a grocery store but when she shops there now she is rude to the workers. As well, we went for breakfast one morning and she snapped at a waitress because her eggs weren't cooked to her liking. She wanted her meal free and demanded to see the manager. He said no but would cook more eggs for her which she abruptly refused. I felt like hiding under the table. I ended up paying including the tip. It goes without saying we don't hang out anymore. Dear Austin Williams, how soon do some people forget where they came from.

I was totally called out for using Amazon! Lol 😂 I do it for various reasons but I agree with you, entitlement these days needs to stop. I sat at lunch the other day and sat quietly not knowing what to say except when I did have a moment no one liked what I said, so I stayed quiet again. I was asked my thoughts on home improvements which aren’t wrong they can be needed etcetera, however in excess can be ridiculous. I said,” I just think people our age act and think themselves into entitlement whereas our parents and grandparents worked their entire lives for nice things and people in their 20s and 30s think it should be theirs NOW. Maybe they should lower their expectations and be grateful… be nice..” That didn’t go over well… I said it nicely but… oh well. Until next time. Lol 😂

I agree with you, why do 20 something think they should have it all, and immediately without working and saving for it. Example, I saw a news about 2 recent college graduates, both 23 years old, expecting banks to give them a loan for a house. They barely have job records or have money for a deposit. 😮😂😂😂

You have to keep in mind that inflation has made things difficult for a majority of folks world wide. I'm guessing you are American and so am I. Look at what was "realistic" even in the 90's. Al Bundy was able to afford a 2 level home in a middle class neighborhood while supporting his wife and 2 kids as a shoe salesman. You think a kid working at foot locker can do the same today? Unnecessary inflation is insane. Boomers are on their way out. A lot of folks are having trouble affording rent. No option to buy at these inflated prices when you live check to check. America has become a sad place due to corporate greed.😮

Well Augustine,it's early to bed for you with NO SUPPER! If I was your Mom or Grandma. But I'm not! I recently inherited a small amount of money and I'm,yes, spending it,on EXPERIENCES. I'm visiting places I've always wanted to go but never had the time to or the money to or other factors would preclude it. I'm not talking about Honolulu or Singapore or Uluru or Las Vegas (especially not Las Vegas) my travel is within the UK. I'm talking about Edinburgh and Tintagel and Sutton Hoo and Slough (to see if it's a grim as it's myth,it's not) and Alnwick and Bridgnorth. This is my 2 years of travel. 2022+2023. By train + bus + sometimes Shanks's Pony. How I feel is (and from experience) if I don't spend it I'll have to pay a bill with it,usually someone else's,then I want to spend it before CBDC comes in and it won't be money anymore and not even mine. All that hoo haa about rocket trips to space. It's all died down now. They paid Captain Kirk to really go to the final frontier and William Shatner said something really interesting amid all the upbeat"it was a fantastic experience" talk he was paid to say. I only heard this clip of his words one time on one radio station. Amid all the upbeat talk he went quiet for a second then said,in a totally different tone of voice,"you could not see anything,it was all black,it felt like being dead". And his voice had tones of horror in it. (He is quite close). So that was mostly edited out. It's my surmise that the plan was to fool all the muggles into thinking a trip into space is only for rich glamorous people so if we get offered one free we'll enthusiastically take it. Because THEY want to rewild the world, restore it's pristine beauty and without surplus unneeded humans to mess it up again. Now they don't need us as a market or a labour force. Imagine, the elite get to live in the New Eden and the few actual humans they need for manual labour (can bots clean toilets) will exist up in a space accomodation unit.

I think being frugal can make us more down-to-earth because we've chosen to not be involved with the superficial, but I'm not sure that makes us a "better" person. ??

Every dollar you spend damages the environment, the less I spend the less damage I do. People need to let go of the idea that the economy is infinite, it cannot grow indefinitely, the planet has finite resources.

Being frugal makes us worse, not better, for others. We consume less, therefore helping the economy much less. We leave smaller tips (or no tips), meaning servers are paid less. We tend to work less, as we have lower expenses and need to "help society" less to be able to afford our lifestyle, if we don't also stop working earlier, meaning we're helping society even less. There's nothing more egotistical than being frugal. The expression "going Dutch" should hint you something 😁 It's all good, though. We should do what makes us happy. F*ck everybody else. If everybody else also becomes frugal then we starve because there will be nobody willing to bring food to us cheaply like they currently do.

You are making a good and true point but I still think choosing to opt out of consumerism is a good choice and it's NEVER going to catch on in a big way. I have come to the conclusion that this is why (in UK) schools don't teach financial educated, some might do but I know from radio phone ins a lot still don't. When your economy is based on growth and consumer spending teaching a whole generation not to freely spend money is counter productive.

I'd argue that over consumption makes the economy worse. How many people owe massive amounts of debt while also working full time at jobs that they don't enjoy? Consumption is necessary but over-consumption (which most people are part of) really harms the people and environment. Who said you can only have happiness in a suburban mansion filled with a bunch of cheaply made materials and imported crap?

Frugality can make you little better person but not necessarily a good human being with honesty and integrity. Many frugal people are so bad in their nature.

Those arent frugal, they're mean. I'm frugal so when the other day a beggar at the train station on one of my travels asked me for some money to get the train to ..... I gave him a tenner because I was having such an enjoyable day I thought I would share my good fortune. I doubt if he did use the money for what he said but then once I gave it it wasn't my business anyway. But I could only do they because I'm mostly frugal.

@@janebaker966 Thanks for sharing. Frugality can give you money and you can be generous to donate. But not all those who donate money are necessarily very good human being in other ways.
