How flashlight’s optics can alter an emitter’s Tint and CCT

So you received a flashlight that supposedly has a LH351D 5700K in it. But it looks much warmer (and greener) to your eye than you expected. This is because of the optic! Hard to believe but true. Watch on to learn more.
Note: not all emitters shift this dramatically, nor do all optics shift the values the same.

The biggest shift in tint I've seen is in my mom's Convoy S2+. Bought her one with the sw45k, and swapped out the reflector with a 45 degree frosted TIR. The emitter went from a very neutral 219b, to one of the rosiest I have ever seen, and I have some _ultra_ rosy 219b lights from Fireflies.

And I've learned there is yet another branch on the learning journey... I wouldn't have thought to try testing without the reflector as well, but after your explanation it seems like a fairly simple concept now. I don't think I could necessarily explain it fully, but the layman's version works for me! Good stuff! I thought I had missed something when I saw the notification for this one and then you pulled the video... I'm looking forward to your review on the Rider - I fidget so much with the RRT01 it may be worthwhile to have a backup.

I'd wonder about the difference between straight glass vs anti reflect glass 🤔 great video as always

In bad cases its enough to make neutral looking emitters look noticeable green. If the emitter allready looks repulsive green or is signifigantly rosy like the 219b 45SWK then bad coating is not a issue for me. I belive that the both the quality, material and dimensions of the reflector has a LOT to say, since removing the reflector (very much unlike in this video) make eighter none or close to none diffrence on the tint in my flashlights, at least not on medium output (wich is what i usually tests). I have also experinced glass that was straight out GREEN tinted and that was not even accounting for the AR coating. Being prepared to buy watchglasses is thereby often something i consider when buying a flashlight.

@@kaspervendler1726 this is true but I think AR glass allows light to pass through way more efficiently than straight glass i could be wrong though

@@kaspervendler1726 so as long as you have correctly coated AR glass its a better option thanks KV much appreciated

@@mishmash4891 yes, it exists, but flashlight manuafactors usually uses extremly crappy ones that makes the light noticeable green and sick looking.

The audio was poor, so I fixed it. YT offers no way to re-edit old content, so I had to delete and reupload. Sorry for any confusion. Brand new content this Friday! In depth review of AceBeam Rider RX fidget toy flashlight!
