In this 2018 review we’ll see the northern lights on Saturn: a new asteroid landing close to Earth; the ghost of Cassiopeia; new information on the stars at the center of our galaxy; and more. We’ll also cover the second GAIA data release on 1.7 billion stars. We’ll then go beyond the galaxy to see a wide variety of galaxies and galaxy clusters. We’ll see a single star 9 billion light years away.
Our deep dive this year is a close look at Brown Dwarfs: what are they; how do they form; and where do they fit between high mass planets and low mass stars; and we’ll take a look at a few of them.

You really have put a huge amount of work into these marvellous programs. Be proud to know that this series is highly unlikely to become outdated, and so perhaps in hundreds of years people will still be watching this. Who knows?....

I love your work Mr. Butler. As a fellow software engineer, I aspire to someday retire in the manner you have - tending thoughtfully to show the beauty of such greater sciences. You're a man to be admired, and your work will be forever.

Your videos have been a huge inspiration for me to study more over the last few years. I’m a 55 year old carpenter with a yearning to be an Astro or particle scientist. Never too late. Thank you so much.

This is an absolutely fascinating characterisation of objects with increasing mass, together with clear explanations of how they differ. By freezing the video at each object, one is presented with the appropriate equations and definitions for further study. Simply excellent.

Thank you so much Mr. Butler; I had learn more about the universe watching your videos than watching any other science channels, which by the way sadly had gone into paid channel/streaming subscription except for NOVA and since Discovery channel had go into commercial garbage programming. I want to thank you for your efforts to spend part of your retirement teaching your learnings, much appreciated in my part ! .... It's amazing that when we see into the night skies, we're looking into the distant past. I for instance, knowing the vast extense of the unvierse is so far away into space and time, will like scientific research to focus more about our closest hopes for earthlings since our planet will someday be inhospitable, slowly barbecued by our sun...or is it that , life itself is just another cycle of the universe, somehow-somehwere, gets created, live and die like stars and planets and am getting to think that way of our own human species.
