Parisian tip: go to the little streets on the side of the main thoroughfares. For example, a jambon-beurre sandwich (classical sandwich for parisian workers) costs almost €4 in the bakeries on rue Saint Antoine (a main street, a direct route between Bastille and Châtelet, which is very popular with tourists). The same sandwich in the little streets off rue Saint Antoine costs €2.5 and tastes better. In Paris, there are large avenues, large streets (built by Haussmann) and, starting from these large avenues, very small streets (those dating back to the Middle Ages). Products are always cheaper in the small streets (except in the hyper-tourist areas, where it's expensive everywhere). Welcome in my beautiful city !

I was in Paris last July and stayed in the airbnb in the outskirts of the Marais area. The landlady asked me if I was going out to have lunch, and said: Don't go into Marais, too touristy and too expensive, go towards Bastille, same quality and lower prices. I appreciated her advice.

I spent three months in Paris last year. Travelled by train all over France using Paris as a base.Wasn't budgeting, just did whatever I wanted. The cost was USD10k. Loved it. Extremely easy to travel within France. Walked everywhere in Paris. I found the people to be very polite everywhere I went.

In 2013 we stayed in an apartment in the Marais district (4 adults). It wasn’t super posh and one of the beds was a couch bed but we had all we needed. A small kitchen, separate bathroom, one separate double bedroom and a living area which doubled as a bedroom at night. All perfectly adequate and comfortable. No lift, 2 flights of stairs, and wi-fi available (although we couldn’t get it to work!). It was clean and pleasant and less than a stone’s throw from the corner of Plâce des Vosges! At 750 euros (total) for 5 days we were super happy with it. Stayed there in 2010 as well but sadly I think it has since closed.

My husband and I just returned from Paris, best tour and worth the money was Vincent's tour!!! We were the Bi racial couple and proud to say my husband is telling everyone that a real Parisian chef taught him about wine!!! I just added up our trip. for 2 of us we spent 5200.00, we stayed for 1200 at a bed and breakfast by Arch de T. Our room was beautiful with large windows but it was 4 flights of stairs, our flight was through Google at 800.00 a piece round trip purchased on a Thursday at 11am. we used the metro, but it did take a day to figure it out, and it gets VERY crowded. Learn enough French to speak to a driver, with Les Frenchies advice we ate at quiet off the path restaurants are meals were excellent we also shopped at Monop! Our biggest expense was the spa treatment's around Paris we did. We did chocolate for family souvenirs. We have decided to come back again in the off season February because Paris seems like a great vacation in cold weather, and less busy...BTW we couldn't have done this vacation with LEs Frenchies guidance they are worth binge watching ❤❤

We came back a week ago. We saved up and it was the best experience ever! Stayed at Hotel le Cardinal, ate at a couple restaurants, ate mostly at boulangeries, paid to go to the Louvre and Hotel des Invalides, saw other attractions for free, Ubered back to our hotel after walking all day, stayed at the Marriott outside of Disneyland Paris for 5 days and went to DLP for 4 days. Bought groceries and went to an artisan boulangerie nearby. It was only slightly more expensive of a trip compared to what we spend on other vacations. It was amazing! A couple points to add: 1. A taxi from CDG is a fixed price, but make sure you follow the sign to the end - there are people offering taxis along the way and they are not affiliated with CDG 2. If you're on a budget, the supermarket, or a small artisan store, isn't a bad option. Wine, bread, meats, cheese, etc....take them to Saule Pleureur de la Pointe to relax on the Seine and take in the views (lots of couples there at night too drinking wine and locking lips) 3. If you want a "fanny pack" but don't want the look, Spibelt makes a sleek one for runners that stretches. I've had the same one for almost a decade and I use it for travel and festivals 4. If you opt for a cruise on the Seine, go at night - it's cooler and you'll get to see the Eiffel Tower lit up at night 5. Find a nice cafe and chat it up with a local - they might give you some excellent recommendations

What a superb video! Thanks so much Colleen and Antoine ! You have covered everything and what a great reference source. I hope a suggestion is not offensive: I will book in to a moderate bed and breakfast for lets say five days and my final two days at a high end hotel because I want luxury and pampering with spa service. It doesn't break the bank (no, I am not booking the George V ! ) but the upgrade is great and, for me, the perfect way to end the trip. I will be doing that in Paris -- but not this year because of the Olympics! In one of your videos you purchased the boat trip with getting on and off at different places. I thought that was brilliant! And then there is the dinner boat -- that was great, too! Thanks so much for all of your videos. I have said it before : You are the one-stop and the only stop for Paris (and surrounds) videos on the internet ! Now, back to my Saturday morning second cup of coffee here in NYC! Cheers from New York !

Your analogy of cost comparison between Orlando and Paris is spot on. We spent $15k on a 11 day trip to Disney World for 3 adults for the 50th Celebrations in October 2021. That kind of money made me sick looking back so we decided to go to Europe. We spent $20k on a 16 day trip to Paris for 4 adults just last month. But that does not include my wifes LV spending...🤑

Unfortunately all prices will go up during the Olympics. There will also be restrictions on many touristy places in Paris, as some events will take place in the city. So if you want to come for the city itself it’s best to wait until September! Also lots of interesting museums are free and very quiet (Petit Palais, Victor Hugo’s apartment, Carnavalet).

Another tip I have related to shopping has to do with buying chocolatier chocolate. If you’re looking to bring some home, especially as a gift, wait as close to your departure as you can, and be certain to ask for an insulated bag. The high end chocolatiers use very fresh ingredients, so most of their products won’t last very long. You can go to a high end chain (I think most of them are Belgian?), and they have options of chocolate that can travel. I was given this address during my time in Brussels. So this my advice…unless high end chocolate production has radically changed in 15 years. 🤔😉

I'd love to chime in on how affordable this is. My first trip to Pairs was last year in September. (So, a shoulder month and that means it's less expensive). I found a little hotel (Hotel du Bresil) one block from the Luxembourg Gardens. They offered a discount if you buy through their website and for multiple days. So, I ended up paying around $1,000 for 9 nights. It was close to the Metro & RER B, as well as close to the Panthéon. Having lived in NYC for a few years, I love subways and the Metro is only slightly tricky to navigate at first. I mostly walked everywhere, but I did use the Metro to get around as well as the RER to get to & from Orly and Disneyland Paris. I didn't keep track of food, but I don't think I broke $60/day unless I was just eating everything in sight. I flew French Bee from LAX. My flight (round trip) was originally $850. But, I upgraded to seats with more room and added a meal and pre-flight lounge access. I ended up paying around $1200. So, Hotel & flight was $2200, food was around $600. While I was there I did a guided tour of the Arch du Triumph, went to the Louvre, Palace du Garni, Musee d'Orsay, and the top of the Eiffel Tower (with champagne). Combined I'd say that came to $120. (Arch du Triumph guided tour was $35 and worth every penny, and the Eiffel Tower with Champagne was $52). So, I'd say $3,000 can get you a lovely time for one person. If you're going as a couple, remember that rooms aren't much more expensive with 2 people in them, and plane tickets can either double or be a little less than double the price.

I saw your vlogs and have been watching most of your videos about tips for visiting Paris and it has been wonderful. It can be intimidating to plan but your videos are very detailed and helped me a lot. We like to travel in low season because less crowd and we can find cheaper accommodation.

Great video! Thank you for including information on phones and wifi. And happy to see you mention Monoprix. (When I bring gifts back for my friends, it’s mostly French salts and herbs and jams, etc., from Monoprix. I have even picked up cool T-shirts and bags there.) You have both mentioned wonderful shops like Pylones for gifts in Paris - including museum gift shops (my favorite). Another favorite, artsy shop, featuring made-in-France items is Marin Montagut.) Thank you again for these wonderful videos. I won’t be back in Paris until after the Olympics, but you always give us such good ideas in every video which I will definitely use. Again, merci bien!

Another great video. We (a couple) are currently staying in Paris in a modern hotel in an unfashionable area for 150euro/night. Small (by Australian standards) but very comfortable room. Today we spent about15 euro for breakfast, 90 euros for lunch at a. nice restaurant and €60 for dinner at a local bistro (a main course each plus half litre of wine). Paris does not have to be super expensive

Thx for the note abt the Louvre! Happy to know we aren’t alone. Was so stressed when I lost my husband in there, no wifi, no cell, what a mess! Finally got a text he was in Starbucks, but turns out there is more than one Starbucks lol. Had no idea it’s a mall! Waste of at least one stressful hour. Suggest a meetup spot when (not if) lost. Not to mention the cafe, which I didn’t realize had its own restroom… Stood in line outside for two restrooms (was pointed at the second, bad mistake) finally got back ages later. Multiple disasters. Still, the Louvre was amazing. Will return for sure, with more info in hand.

Thanks again, guys for a great video!!! After visiting Paris seven times, I feel it can be as expensive or inexpensive as you would like… The main cost for me was always the flight from California, but the rest was was generally split between two or three of us, specifically the hotel accommodation…again the cost of the meals or whatever I wanted to spend for the day was figured into the budget I had set for myself…my favorite meals were the gyros or a baguette with jambon et fromage or a crepe…luckily I’m not a shopper so souvenirs were minimum except for a few T-shirts and, of course, always an Eiffel Tower replica because they make me feel good as I look at them years later…my main thoughts were that I would be spending basically the same money at home for daily expenses and excursions if I went to San Francisco for a couple of weeks or a day trip to Disneyland (have you checked the prices to go to Disneyland lately!!!)so why not enjoy my time in Paris!!!

Parisian tip: it's not necessary to book your activities in advance. But when you're planning an activity, buy your tickets online. Queues to get into a museum or monument are a nightmare (you can easily spend 2 hours there). By booking online, you can choose what time you want to enter the museum or monument and, as a result, you don't have to queue - there are special fast-track entrances for those who already have their tickets. You should be aware that buying a ticket costs €1 to €2 more than buying one on the spot. But when you've got 2-hour queues, it's well worth it! Welcome to my beautiful city !

One thing I love buying at Monoprix are their reusable folding bags that last time I was in Paris were 1.5 - 2 euros. The colors and prints available seem to change about every year. They are lightweight and easy to pack and very helpful on your trip and when you get home. I got my friends hooked on them and I usually need to bring about 10+ back for all of their requests for more. 😉 Salts can be a bargain for friends who cook or would like something special for their table. For dark chocolate, Pralus has a nice set of 10 squares for 20 euros, that makes a great gift. They might be available in Monoprix, if not their stores are lovely.

We have taking public transportation from the airport, and taxis. One time we got scammed by a taxi we thought was legit and wasn’t. That was a bummer and a learning experience, we paid double for that trip, about 100 euros. This past December we took a cab, nailed down the price ahead of time and it was the standard price but he didn’t use the meter and I still don’t know what that was about. We always take an Uber to the airport going home and have only had great experiences doing that. Paris feels like a bargain to us in terms of food and activities. We also just spent a night at a Hilton hotel at CDG and that was extremely nice and around 150 Euros, might have been even less. If you don’t have much luggage and are feeling energetic enough, the RER train connecting to the Metro is fine.

If you are serious about saving money in Paris and France for that matter. Go in the off season. Europe is best in late September into October and you will love it no end and save a lot especially on the lodging. And with little crowds all the museums and restaurants beg you to come in. And the really smart people will rent apartment or chalets in the offseason and they are reasonable to cheap and you become part of the people that live their. How do I know, my son lives there. A whole new world of Paris and France opens up if you do this. There are neighborhoods in Paris you are completely unaware of with shopping streets that would be considered gourmet here, and one after another. And their public transportation system especially the trains are Par Execellence . You can go anywhere i France i about five hours city center to city center including Les Alpes. We actually did a day trip to Normandy from Paris and the Gare's (train stations) are beautiful and are literally worlds unto themselves complete with shopping. Have I convinced you to go by now?????

I met the two of you at one of your first meet-ups last May. FYI, I found some things in the Monoprix on Opera had been tampered with -- individually wrapped salted caramels, for example. I purchased two bags and when I got back to my apartment, one had fewer than the other! So, check each item that's been out on display in the grocery stores before paying. In December, I decided to purchase the caramels (for my awesome dog sitter) in the Duty Free Shop when I left CDG! I'll be back for only a week this May because I'm going to the Côte d'Azur for two weeks prior. I'll watch for any meet-up announcements.

We stick to 3⭐ hotels...why go to Paris and spend all your time in a hotel? They usually offer breakfast if you aren't up for heading out to a cafe in the morning, and they have always been lovely. Small, but lovely. Ask the front desk for the best viennoiserie nearby for stellar pastries. For inexpensive souvenirs and gifts I like to buy French soaps, chocolate, tea towels, and interesting spices.

Thank you so much Colleen and Antoine. I love to shop for souvenirs at the Monoprix and pharmacies. The soaps and hand lotions are wonderful! Also on one of the 3 trips I have been on to Paris we booked through Delta Vacations. it cost $1500 for tound trip airfare and 3 nights at a hotel that you could see the Eiffle Tour from (2019) the hotel was more American like and included breakfast. No French charm but it was for 3 of us. So make sure to check out Delta Vacations and you get to choose your own hotel. We were on a tight budget and we rode the metro every where and only took a taxi once when we were too tired late at night to walk back to the hotel. Paris is very affordable and the sites and food are fantastic. You're tips are so spot on!
