Starlink have a For Business Offering.For $1 Million they can set up for you an ISP service from scratch, complete with a ground station.Would make sense if remote counties come together and buy and distribute this. Iaas (Internet as a Service)

Starlink was not charging in shillings bwana, wewe mzee. This sites they display the local currency but only accept USD in the backend. Also keep in mind the buying Usd/kes rates are not fixed, plus the charges for forex conversion. Unfortunately they are not running a charity. And 3% rate is fair compared to alternatives. Kwanza debit card hidden bank charges wacha. The only bad thing about globalpay is the fact that the card is prepaid and payment options like stripe won't work. compared to using the sell rate to buy USD and send to paypal, you would be paying through the nose bwana. Do your research.

They normally call it “inclusive of forex charge” sijawai elewa io ni ya nini and wanavuna kuvuna!

But there is also the local Forex exchange rate. Check Paypal rates vs global rates its always different. They also have to charge you for the service. Complaint is in the high cost but biashara ne biashara.

Even without Mpesa, Tokens would be payed via Bank apps, airtel money, tkash, etc. Mpesa might have revolutionized Money Transfer, But they are stuck in that fantasy and exploiting people to the fullest. It's Not Hate Jack, We are just keeping them in check.🙏

Some of us actually use those cards and we know Safaricom charges extra while Stanchart to be specific doesn’t. Just go through the videos and find out where all the mics, computers etc have been bought from anf bought through. You will find Amazon and debit cards. No extra charge just the charge at check out 😁

@IkoNini we also live and use multiple cards to make online payments and Stanchart to be precise charges one one of the highest % due to it's security features I presume. MPESA visa in all fairness has been the cheapest of all online payments I've utilised. And this is comparing against NCBA, stanchart, DTB, Coop, and SBM. The marginal difference is quite negligible, and I also used it to book the same for Starlink services. You raised valid points, but to bring the point home, it's better to have expert opinion on the panel.

A work around I found was opening a USD account and you avoid extra charges. Additionally, you avoid PayPal conversion charges too. Also pick a bank that has fairy good fx rate from kes to usd.

You are right about NCBA Loop. Their extra charges for fx conversion are worse than Saf. But most of this issues started when the shilling started depreciating.

That’s why I said it shouldn’t be charged. Why charge a Forex charge on a shillings transaction? All the equipment you see us using was bought using credit cards so we know what we talking about. Amazon accepts shillings so no need to for fires charge. The MOST PROFITABLE company in Kenya charging extra is something to be frowned upon not for people who don’t work at Safaricom to come up with excuses that only Safcom management should

Hi, Since last year or the year before the Government introduced some (extra) forex charges on forex transactions. The forex charge is around 3.5%. That probably explains the extra amount you were charged.

Exchange rate Sir, The exchange rate used by the other company is not used same as Saf. The Kenya shillings indicated by those e-commerce sites is an estimated amount using a certain exchange rate.

I agree. A good example is ebay, when you pay on ebay you are charged 2.5% extra on conversion fees. So if the dollare rate is 130/- you'll be charged 133.25/- . The safaricom global pay is in partnership with Visa so I guess that's why.

The global pay uses a higher exchange rate for the dollar than the other services......... they should probably try and have it standard like everyone else .....the dollar is at 133 but theirs is at 140 currently

This guy is so dumb. He does not want to pay the transaction fee. Each company has its own operations costs to cover; Amazon can't be Safaricom. They charge you some money when you send or pay on Mpesa, so why not with a Global Pay card.
